Corporal Jenkins was not a proud man, as a rule. Short and somewhat pudgy, the middle-aged human was balding, and no matter how hard he tried to make his uniform smart, it always looked as though he were wearing someone else’s clothes; the armour ill-fitting and smudged. For all that, though, he was still a member of the City Guard, and he still took his duties very seriously. Tonight, for instance, he was to meet a group of adventurers who were venturing down into the sewers, so that he didn’t have to.
The Sea Ward was never quiet, even after dark. So many visitors came to Waterdeep to sell or take on goods, and the crews of those vessels were a constant presence. If they weren’t working, as a rule, they were drinking – and when they were drinking, the presence of the Guard became even more important.
The Guard’s primary duty was to ensure that the peace was kept and that, therefore, the flow of trade never ceased. So, the interested parties were directed to come to Seagull Alley; a relatively secluded space between two warehouses where the noise of the Sea Ward’s nightlife faded to a mere background hum rather than being overwhelming.
The sewer grate had been levered up already, the scents rising from it just helping to reinforce for Jenkins that he was very glad someone else was going to be the one going down there. Now, he just needed to wait for them to turn up.

Perhaps ironically, given his beliefs and upbringing, Thedithas had always found a stroll through the night air to be quite bracing. It was only his second proper day in the city of Waterdeep, but he had heard about a job in the sewers and felt what he liked to imagine as the gentle touch of his god nudging him toward the name and location he had been given.
The Sea Ward did not seem to be as bad as the stories he’d heard regarding the Dock Ward. People were neutral at worst when they saw his Order’s vestments - a testament, he hoped, to the glory of the Morning Lord more so than any fear people might have that the slender Elf knew his way around the quarter staff strapped to his back. He received polite smiles that sometimes crossed over to something near genuine, which he always happily returned.
The supplied directions deposited him in front of an unkempt human displaying the rank he had been told meant Corporal (whatever that was). “A fair evening to you, sir,” Thedithas said in greeting. “You are Corporal Jenkins, I hope? I am here about this business in the sewers.”

Gorien signed up for this sewer clearing mission wishing to clear his head and fo somthing good and legal for once. Not that the extra coin dident help. He knew the city guard posted this quest and wanted to be ready to disguise himself if he ever saw a guard. The area was easy enough to navigate and before long he found the space in which they were to meet with the elf he vaugely remembered having drinks with and the corporal himself. This wasent going to be easy, the corporal had seen him disguise before. Gorien dident think he would expect him to be doing this type of work so he took a quick look around to make sure no one was watching and cast disguise self, making himself look like a slightly taller dark skinned man with clothes very similar to his. He flipped his hood up and approached the two. "Good day sirs, I'm here for the sewer business" he says in an accent.

As his first time in such a place, Nolul quickly lost is track, for someone that had such a good sense of orientation in the forest, is new situation hurt his pride a little. After 3 hours of looking around for the "Most Careful Order of Skilled Smiths and Metalforgers" building, he ended up in the Sea ward.
Losing his hope, he asked a young lady by the side for directions, however seeing his adventure attires, the leather armor and quarterstaff in his back, even with his big smile up his face she didn’t trust him a bit, to get rid of him quickly, she just pointed towards the closest guard outpost, telling him he could find help there.
Entering the outpost, he was greeted with intense stares from the guards. “Are you one of dues that came looking for the sewers problem? You close by, just walk don’t to the Seagull alleyway, Corporal Jenkins is waiting for you guys.” – pointed the guard towards one of the alleyways to the right of the main street. Without time to ask his question, the guards close the door right in front of his nose.
"Since they look in a worry to solve this problem, maybe I should help them with it.” -though Nolul – “Well I don’t have much to do and Sebastian is not expecting me so soon in the Smith Guild.” – resolute of his choice, he walked away towards where the guard pointed.
Turning the alleyway, he saw 3 men: an elf with loose attires, a human of dark complexion and the third was another human, this one with a uniform similar to the guards from before. Looking towards the last man – “Corporal Jenkins I suppose, your fellow guards said that you need a friendly hand towards your problem.” – smiled Nolul, while brushing his beard – “Oh, pardon my rudeness, my name is Nolul Forgebar” – said as he extended his hand toward the Corporal to greet him.

Privately relieved that he would not be scouring the sewers alone, Thedithas waved in greeting at the newly arrived adventurers. "I trust that between the four of us, we can clear up this whole affair in no time, Lathander willing. I am known as Thedithas Sunbranch," he added with a nod.

Jenkins gave the trio a quick look over as they each approached in turn. He nodded to Thedithas, and shook Nolul’s hand firmly. “Evening.” He said, and if he saw anything amiss in Gorien’s appearance, there was no indication of it in his bearing.
“Glad to see you’re all punctual.” He said, “We’ve had reports of strange noises down there. Probably nothing to be too worried about, but every now and then something from the Tower gets down in there, or someone brings something to shore they didn’t know they were carrying.”
He shrugged his shoulders in a careless gesture, as though this was all stuff that the adventurers should be aware of already – indeed, there always seemed to be something causing trouble down there.
“Standard things to be aware of. Sewer has a lot of gas, so open flame isn’t a good idea. If you run into something you can’t handle, just try and get out again. If you can bring back whatever it was, preferably alive but dead is fine if necessary, that’d be great. Keep an eye out for criminals, but by all accounts it sounds like something…”
The Guardsman was clearly not an expert in elucidation, and waved his hand vaguely for several moments, before settling on.
“… gribbly. Might be worth taking a few to get to know your companions, and if you’ve got any other questions, now’s the time.”

Thedithas nodded in reply. "I prefer to get up close and personal - I've been training with the Order of the Radiant Grasp, learning the martial arts that are taught to the disciples of the Morning Lord." A quick flex of his hands produced a small but nevertheless intense glow in each palm, as if a miniature sunrise was illuminating them.
Letting the ki energy dissipate after a moment, he chuckled as he reached behind a shoulder to grip his quarterstaff. "Of course, sometimes you prefer to keep your hands clean, and that's why I also carry this. In my experience, a good piece of wood can communicate just as much and just as effectively as a fist."

Gorian (in disguise) says "huh, neat. Nice to have another who can fight". Gorian pulls out a sword and says "I'm Anton, I can kill things and spelunk, that's about it"

Looking towards his two new teammates, he happily said - "Haha, well said brother elf, this one" - pointed at the quatterstaff in his back - " can also beat some badies in head." - smiled while giving a thumbs up towards him.
"Besides that, I'm also able to close some minor wounds with my druidic magic." - proclaimed Nolul- "So you don't need to worry to much."

Jenkins waited for the heroes to descend into the sewers, and then pulled the grate behind them with a noisy rasp of metal on stone.
The sewers under the Sea Ward were a definitively unpleasant place. A central canal of sewage perhaps ten feet across flowed through the middle of the space, with only a narrow walkway of slippery stone to either side.
Rats and other vermin skittered in the dark, watching the adventurers with beady eyes...
((I'd like to ask you guys to decide your 'party order' as it is only really possible to walk in single file without being in the sewage. I'd also like perception checks - hearing-based, though I don't think that's relevant to this party!))

"Anton decends further and further until he feels his feet touch solid stone beneath him, the smell makes him retch and he quickly drops his disguise and casts dancing lights. Making a row of 4 lanturns with blue glowing flames dangling in mid air illuminating the space. He also stops to explain that "my name isent actually Anton, the corpral kinda wants my ass for messing with the guard so much so I would appreciate it if Anton died in the sewers with whatever we are hunting down and my prescence is never mentioned. Oh and by the way my name is Gorian, I'm a mage" he then stops to hear what's going on around him.

Seeing Anton leave towards the sewers, Nolul, quickly follow him. As they started descending the stairs, the unpleasant smell coming from down there intensified with each step.
In the last step they arrived in a cold stone floor, in front of them a water stream carried some unpleasant things for one's eyes and nose. As they arrive, the human in front of them presented himself again towards Nolul and the elf - "Don't worry, brother Gorian, this one isn't a snitch. Also, if you want a mediator between you and the guards you will always have this good Dwarf, since there's nothing a calm dialogue can't resolve." - said while giving a friendly pat on Gorian back. - "However, you guys need to forgive, as I'm not the brightest when it came to directions down here. Haha. So brother do we go right or left?" - asked Nolul.1d20+36vmCVikB
