With a quick wave to the Corporal, Thedithas followed the pair down the ladder and into the sewers. The smell was unpleasant, but his circumstances would change eventually and therefore the present could be endured. "The sun always rises," he quoted in a reverent, albeit quiet, tone. Seeing that the others were looking down the passage in the same direction, he opted to quiet his mind and watch their backs, casting his attention down the opposite path.

The first few minutes in the sewers were much as one might expect. An unpleasant experience, but there was little indication that there was anything amiss – just the usual array of scurrying vermin and smells best left unexamined. Ten minutes turned into fifteen, into twenty – long enough to start wondering if there was any danger down here after all.
As luck would have it, however, the senses of all the adventurers were sharp – honed by experience and well-founded paranoia – they were alerted together to the danger lurking in the shadows.
The sewer came to an intersection; a channel running east-west across the north-south that they were heading down. As the intersection came into view, they became aware of several things all at once.
The first was that the ever-present vermin had drifted away; they hadn’t seen a rat in three minutes.
Then, there was the sound coming from the western corridor some fifty feet ahead; a subtle, faint chittering and scurrying – as of many dozens of the foul vermin moving against one another.
And behind, the sound of soft paws approaching stealthily.
There – in the darkness, some thirty feet from Thedithas, was a hideous creature – a blend of humanoid and rat, lank fur matted and greasy, a vicious, filthy shortsword clutched in one hand and a hand crossbow raising to strike!
((And we're in initiative! Because you all passed the DC14 check you are not Surprised by the ambushing rat-creature.))

After 20 min walking in the sewers, Nolul startes to gain some resistence towars the smell, yet it was still unsupportable.
As Nolul saw in front a intersection, he hear some small squeaky noises behind, as he turned he saw a rat-man controling a swarm of rats, running freneticly towards us, as they knew he had spotted them.

Instinct snapped his hands firmly onto the simple wrappings of his quarterstaff as Thedithas invoked a quick mantra against those who deny the Sun. He gave his weapon a quick double whirl motion to get a feel for the space and set his feet in a combat stance borne of long hours of ceaseless training.

Being in front and of quick sense Gorian snaps to attention as a threat enters the field of his senses, he grasps a hand crossbow and keeps a hand free to cast spells with.

The rat-man hisses and throws itself forward, twisting beneath the flung masonry which shatters with a startling crash as it smashes into the wall where the creature's head had been just moments before.
The creature fired with its hand-crossbow as it closed on Thedithas, apparently intent on carving its way through the party from behind, as it swiftly followed the bolt with a slash of its short sword and a foul-breathed hiss!

Though shrouded in the relative darkness, the creature's motion betrayed its intent in attacking. Thedithas' eyes briefly glowed a golden shade of green as his hand shot up, attempting to deflect the incoming bolt away from him.

With reflexes honed in the monastery of the Order of the Radiant Grasp, he caught the incoming projectile and redirected it down into the flowing liquid, calmly sidestepping the splash in the same motion that allowed him to dodge the creature's incoming blade with a comfortable ease. Using its momentum against it, he wheeled the staff around in his other hands and tried landing a strike directly between the creature's shoulderblades.

The rat-man let out a horrible shriek as it found itself being beaten with staff and fist. The blows landed solidly and drew horrible, warbling noises out of the monster's throat.
As though in answer, the distant chittering became a louder cacophony and dozens of rats came boiling from the corridor ahead, rushing around in a flood of tiny, furry bodies. With Gorian out front, he found himself being swamped by the horde of chittering beasts, malevolent hunger burning in their hateful little eyes.
(Both blows hit - Rat-Man AC is 12. The swarm has to double move to get in range but now occupies Gorian's space. Nolul is up next!)

Seeing a rat swarm coming close to Gorian, he decided to help him, since from the side of the elf everything looked fine. He quickly pulled his quarterstaff from his back and cast Shillelagh on it.
With a wide swing, he tried to hit the most rats he can, throwing them into the water.
