History:
Gwinri was one of the first Shield Dwarves born after the Blessing of Thunder was decreed by the Morndinsamman. Her birth, and that of her twin brother Gwinra, were considered a great blessing in their community, and great things were expected of both twins.
She and her family moved to Mithral Hall when it was liberated and brought back into the stewardship of Clan Battlehammer, as her family owed ancient debts to Battlehammer, and her father’s smithing skills were in much demand in the newly-formed community.
There, she was immersed into the dwarven culture that had been only a small part of the community in which she had spent many of her formative years. She felt a great calling to the Dwarven pantheon – the Morndinsamman – and it did not take her long to find her place as an acolyte, studying under the gruff and hidebound Dwarven priests and learning their traditions.
Gwinri was one of the few acolytes who demonstrated true aptitude with the Divine, and she was passed from Master to Master in an attempt to find which of the Gods would best fit her calling. In many ways, she embodied all of the best traits of Dwarvenkind; she was strong, a formidable warrior, stout and forthright with her views. It was difficult to argue that she was anything other than blessed amongst her people…
And yet she refused to choose just one of the Morndinsamman to venerate.
This breach with tradition made her fellows uneasy, but they had little time to worry about it when the Drow attacked in 1358, and then when the Orcs came in 1370. She fought bravely on the front lines in the first battle, and in the second, she received her first true miracle and sign of approval from the Morndinsamman when, struck by an Orc’s brutish blow, lightning and thunder snapped from her form to blast the foul creature backwards. Visited in vision by the Morndinsamman, she was bestowed with a new family name: Stormsworn, and tasked with spreading Their word.
The Blessing of Thunder was aptly named, it seemed.
Ever since, Gwinri has spent her time arguing for a new and less restrictive form of worship amongst her fellows. Literal decades were spent banging her head against the ancient dwarvish clergy, until, at last, she grew frustrated and left the Hold.
Now, she travels the world spreading the word of the Morndinsamman and doing her best to interact with the other races and prepare them for the coming age – the Age of the Storm Dwarves as she calls it, believing wholeheartedly that the plan of her Pantheon to reinvigorate Dwarven society must surely come to pass, and that she will be at its herald, uniting the Dwarven peoples and reclaiming their lost and fallen Holds from the hated enemies of Dwarvenkind.
Personality:
Gwinri is a devout and stalwart proponent of the virtues put forward and embodied by the Morndinsamman. She does her best to live her life in a manner which would be approved of by all of them. This primarily consists of living her life in an honest, forthright and straightforward manner; in addressing the issues before her head-on with little patience for deception (or, less charitably, subtly).
She gives her word rarely, and even more rarely gives her wholehearted trust, as loyalty is something she will hold herself to more strongly than any chains or magic could bind her. If she gives her hand of friendship to someone, she will literally die before she betrays their trust. She places her personal morality and the oaths to which she is sworn above any and all other concerns.
Gwinri is also, against type for a Shield Dwarf, an optimist. She believes that she is at the vanguard of a new dawn for Dwarvenkind; her generation are now adults and experienced enough to have respect within Dwarven society. They are rising in their communities, and their thoughts and ideas are being given credence as they have proven themselves – even if she herself has had little success thus far in arguing for reformation amongst the Dwarven clergy.
She has absolute faith that the Morndinsamman will succeed in their plan, and that they will finally reverse the decline that has beset the Dwarven people for thousands of years. Just think! The same number of Dwarven souls have been able to hold back the green tide and all the other countless enemies of the dwarves for over 20,000 years. Soon, there will be twice as many dwarves as there ever have been before!
And of course, she is a preacher. She wants to convert people of other races to worship of the Morndinsamman by demonstrating the superiority of their virtues and the advantages that their blessings can bring to all people. She hopes that, at last, dwarven values will be given the proper veneration and respect they ought to have had – and the world will be made a better place for it.
She is also stubborn as an ox, unwilling to change her mind or admit fault in all but the most dire circumstances. She never forgets a grudge, and never forgives one unless restitution has been made. The dwarven values she places such faith in are not entirely positive things, after all...
