History:
Note: I am planning on using the Bladesinging Arcane Tradition for wizards as a Human. If this backstory isn’t a suitable explanation of how it has happened, then let me know and I can come up with something else or change my race to an Elf.
Aronin comes from a middle-class family in Waterdeep. His family consists of a long lineage of craftsmen who helped with the construction of the city at its inception, and therefore the Havenscar’s are well respected artisans. Aronin had an average childhood growing up in the family home. His parents were able to afford to give their son a good education, and even a tutor. He was a particularly bright child and from a young age had a thirst for knowledge. He was heavily interested in learning about the history of the land, and the mysterious powers of magic. His eyes were glued to books most of the time, and he only had a few close friends growing up. He would often spend the day indoors reading about great adventures, mysterious dungeons, perilous battles, and powerful wizards. This sheltered him from the outside world, but his mind and imagination were continuously expanding. As he matured, he easily picked up a scribe position at the local library, where he was able to put his knowledge to good use. It also gave him some pocket change so that he can build his own personal collection of books at home.
One day he had caught word of a mysterious high elf in the city who had an interesting collection of rare texts. Intrigued by this, Aronin met with the merchant and was amazed by the rare books in his inventory. The elf could not disclose how he acquired such a unique inventory. Aronin could only afford a single text on his wages, so he wanted to take as much time as possible on his decision. However, the merchant was unusually pushy and was eager to make the sale. Finally, Aronin came across an ancient text that caught his eye. It was written in elvish and bore some kind of sigil on its cover that he could not recognize. There was something about the text that called out to him. He felt a supernatural attraction to it, and the merchant was losing his patience. Aronin purchased the text without second thought.
That purchase changed the course of Aronin’s story drastically. By then, he had already known some basic elvish but he spent quite some time reviewing the language before diving into this text. He felt incredibly motivated to discover the secrets hidden within it, and soon enough he began to read its contents. It seemed to be some kind of high-level spell book that he had trouble understanding. His interest in magic peaked. Although he dabbled in some magic on his own, he wasn’t particularly talented. However ever since he laid eyes on this text, he can feel an unnatural increase in his magical aptitude. He created his own spell book based off the knowledge he had started to piece together in the elvish text. He practiced his magic in secret, and his ability improved exponentially in a very short time period. His rate of growth was extraordinary, as if he was making up for lost time of training.
However other odd things started to happen to him. There would be gaps in his memory, and he would sometimes wake up in an odd location. He often dreamt about practicing magic, but he quickly discovered that these weren’t just dreams. He was practicing in his sleep, and he started to hear rumors. They started small and insignificant, but eventually the talk caught like wildfire. Someone had been performing magic illegal during the night, but no one would quite understand what was actually occurring. Aronin pieced together that he may have been caught “sleep-casting”. There was also some talk about a group of Elf wizards that have been asking questions around Waterdeep, and that a book merchant was arrested on suspicion of stolen texts. This obviously sparked fear into Aronin, as it became painfully clear that his new found hobby was based off of stolen magic.
The responsible thing to do would be to return it, and explain everything to the authorities. However, the young man realized that this was one book he did not want to let go. It awakened a thirst within him to continue studying the arcane arts, and uncover deeper secrets. He couldn’t just go back to living his normal life, even if it meant his actions would later catch up to him.
Personality:
Aronin is a good-natured lad, with an unnatural thirst and curiosity for learning. More often than not you'll find him staring off into space, trapped in his own thoughts about the world - or simply living some kind of action packed fantasy. He was raised indoors surrounded by fantastic books filled with scientific facts, arcane literature, and the stories of heroic legends. These sometimes fictional characters have become his role models, and Aronin strives to become as knowledgeable as he can regarding all subjects.
This drive for uncovering secrets has made him a reckless person. It is very common for him to impulsively act before he can get a chance to sit down and think something thoroughly. This frequently effects his decision making and is sometimes life threatening.
Unlike most educated spell casters, he isn't a snobby know it all. He is very aware of his own weaknesses and works on improving himself in these regards. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with others regardless of their background or social standing. He is a very welcoming person when he meets others who share in his interests.
Although he thirsts for knowledge, he's also interested in the fame and glory tied to academics. This is something he wants to build on in order to someday have a book written about his own daring adventures.
In a social setting, Aronin isn't typically the center of attention. He isn't charming enough to collect a crowd and hold their attention, but he does occasionally fantasize about it. He seems to do better in smaller groups, and has a very broad sense of humor that makes it possible for him to befriend almost anyone. He enjoys trying to be funny, but for the most part he actually isn't... He often turns towards humor in order to cope with obstacles life decides to toss his way.
