Another thought I've been having recently!
The Planeshift and Tal'dorei Campaign Settings offer up a lot of interesting options which seem mechanically balanced.
I have avoided adding them in to the game purely because the options that they offer are very closely tied thematically to the campaign settings they are from - but at the same time, they tend to put mechanical options on the table which you can't find elsewhere.
One of the biggest changes that potentially has a radical impact on the setting would be the inclusion of firearms as per Matt Mercer's Gunslinger subclass. Firearms are obviously not currently available and bringing them in can arguably ruin the 'medieval fantasy' flavour that is the ostensiable default in Forgotten Realms and push things more towards a high fantasy/steampunk aesthetic.
The more I've thought about it, though, the more I've realised that my aim with setting up Waterdeep was to allow people to play as many character archetypes as possible that they might not have the opportunity to play in tabletop campaigns. I'm therefore leaning towards including these published materials because - to my eye at least - they seem relatively settled and sane compared to other options available in published Wizards of the Coast sources.
At present I am still leery about including Unearthed Arcana because these materials are essentially out there for playtesting and tend to be rebalanced significantly before eventually winding up in a published format when WotC have ironed out (most of) the kinks.
So second question of the day - would people like to see these options for characters opened up?
