Solo DM adventure topic for Orin: The Summertide, 1489
Ari gains 1 DM coupon
Word Count:
Ari (I included DM notes and instructions, but not things like 'Winter Wolf Initiative' or 'DC 13' things) - 3,542
Orin - 9,048
Experience and Gold Earned from Word Count:
Ari (to be placed on Citrine): 3,542/50 rounded up to 71x10= 710 exp and gold
Orin - 9,048/50 rounded up to 181x10=1,810 exp and gold
Experience and Gold Earned from pure creature Encounters: 800 max
Snow Wolf Swarm (based on a ghost wolf swarm): Estimated by me at 100 exp points
Modified as follows:
Modified:
HP: 3 HD, d10s average HP per level
((Down from 10 HD)) | 18+9=28 HP total
AC: 12
(Would have been 14 had Orin not used the hexblade as anything other than a rapier. Player did not know this.)
Removed ghost template, no longer resistant to any damage type ghosts are.
Removed damage immunity to cold
, made it just resistant
Vulnerable to fire
Icy Doom: reduced damage by half 11(2d10), half with Con save (12)
-Removed exhaustion level effect, as battle started with 2 levels exhaustion
-Would have kept exhaustion effect had combat not started with Orin at 2 levels of exhaustion
-Adjusted bite attack to make 1d6 cold damage a save or suck con save (12)
-Used static average damage for all Snow Wolf attacks, as the attacks could build up very quick and the online dice roller hates players
Bite Attack: Made it strength base only, no proficiency
-Average bite: 1d4 average + strength = 4 AND 3 points cold (separate save)
If an aspect of the stat block is not mentioned as being changed above? It was kept the same.
Also, showing Ossular the stat block afterwards, I found out I was reading the multiattack ability wrong. I thought the 3 bites were only when Icy Doom was used. I was corrected, they should have been doing 3 bites per turn, not 1 like I thought it was. That is my b as a new DM.
Monster CR Calculator Chart:
Prof Bonus = +2
Armor Class = 14
Hit Points = 28
Attack Bonus = +2
D/Round = 7
Save DC = 13 (between 12 and 14, so let's stick this in the middle)
Defensive CR is calculated at 1/8
Offensive CR is calculated at 1/2
Overall CR? Due to vulnerabilities and unique ability of Icy Doom? I'd keep at CR 1/2 vs rounding down to 1/4
Winter wolf: CR 3 worth 700 exp
Kept stat block 100% as is except for the breath cut in half
- Following suit like I reduced the massive damage of the Icy Doom in half.
- Purpose is to create difficult terrain with breath weapon
- Only engages if Orin attacks first, or severely provoked
As the winter wolf was not defeated in the traditional sense, finishing the encounter by playing dead, I'll leave it up to you. I think Orin survived it very well, as initially there was no intent to have him enter combat. The breath was originally only going to be used to create difficult winter terrain in the battlefield. I want to give the full 700, because I am a generous god
Experience earned from non creature encounters: ? ? ?
As a DM I thought Orin RPed through a variety of situations very well, but I don't know if there were many non creature encounters here. The closest is exhaustion roll from Lady Susan, and taunting the winter wolf into halting his attack and trying twice to run it off (rolling like shit each time... but that's the dice for you). Up to you if any bonus RP exp is added.
