History: Echo in the Valley (just Echo to most) was born into a small tabaxi troupe of travelling performers from the southern nation of Calimshan. She was raised by a single father, a minstrel named Faint Riddle, and would come to consider the other four members of the tightknit group as an extended family. Faint Riddle would never really speak much about who Echo’s mother was, though he did eventually gift his daughter an old carved flute that he said had once belonged to her. Most of Echo’s early childhood would be spent moving from town to town across the desert with the troupe in their painted wagon. As she grew older, Faint Riddle and the other tabaxi would teach Echo tricks of the trade, the young girl eventually growing to specialize in singing, playing her flute, and dancing, and would later contribute to their travelling performances. All in all, the tabaxi’s early years were good ones, and she would come to fondly remember moments she spent with the troupe and her father as some of her best. Unfortunately, later in her childhood the group were ambushed by a rogue band of genasi between towns. Barely escaping to hide with the help of her father and the rest of the troupe, Echo would be orphaned as the only survivor of the brutal encounter.
Discovered the next day by a caravan of merchants who stumbled across their burnt campsite, the young tabaxi would be taken farther to the east and to the only human controlled city left in Calimshan: the port fortress of Almraiven. There she was left in the care of a small orphanage named the Little Palace. Though alive, the orphanage would prove to be far from the welcome home Echo once enjoyed with the troupe. Run by a cruel couple with little love for their charges and even less so for one unceremoniously dropped on their doorstep, the tabaxi would face years of abuse, neglect, and malnourishment at their hands, while their lack of care also bred its own hostile dynamic between the children themselves. It was at the orphanage, though, that Echo would meet her lifelong friend. Arriving after the young girl had already been there for some time was Wisp, an orphaned kobold, and the two would grow to be extremely close friends and partners who looked out for one another within the orphanage.
It was with Wisp that Echo would also eventually escape. Managing to climb and squeeze their way out of the chimney one night, the tabaxi and kobold would be forced to remain within Almraiven as the only haven in a hostile desert (though keeping far from their former home). Initially scrapping by on the streets, led by Wisp the two would eventually come to use the skills they had gained while surviving in the orphanage to work as hired thieves in the city, taking on odd jobs from local gangs and merchants to steal, gather information, and deliver contraband. The pair would even become quite successful at it. Carving out a minor place within the criminal underworld for themselves, it would all come to an end when a job saw them run afoul of the local thieves’ guild – the Seven Spades. Though they prepared to flee the city, Echo would one day return to their hideout to find the alabaster dragon mask her former partner used to wear abandoned and damaged next to the guild’s calling card and, fearing for her own life and with her only friend and ally gone, soon left Almraiven for good by herself.
Travelling westward and then north by boat, Echo would disembark from the horrifying, watery ordeal the first chance she could get: within the lands of Amn. There Echo would abandon her old life as a thief and take to a career that was more legal, albeit often frowned upon, and more fitting for her growing passion for exploring and discovering – tomb raiding (or, as she liked to call it, treasure hunting). Working independently or hired by local nobles, families, and merchants, the tabaxi would make her way up the Sword Coast one dungeon, crypt, and abandoned grotto at a time. In this way Echo would eventually reach the City of Splendors, Waterdeep, and, mesmerized by its wonders and opportunities for adventure, decided to stick around to ply her trade for the foreseeable future.
Personality: Having had to cope with an unconventional childhood from an early age, Echo never entirely grew up. The tabaxi is bubbly, playful, and boundlessly optimistic in a world she regards with almost childlike wonder, going so far as to treat her delves and any jobs she takes on the side as more a game or whimsical adventure than a serious task. Endearing to some, but the flip side is that yes, she does at times treat her jobs more like a casual game. Echo can very much be flighty, childish, and ridiculously stubborn if things do not go the way she wants them to.
This is no truer than when it comes to whatever her current obsessive interest is. Afflicted with the same intense curiosity as most tabaxi, Echo can very easily fixate on a buried artifact, scrap of lore, or whispered rumor and refuse to rest until she commits the truth of it to memory, things like reasonable caution and personal privacy be damned. With Echo’s flighty nature this means her obsession can often change multiple times within a week, though the positive side to this is that the tabaxi has a knack for accruing tidbits of useful information and trivia which she is more than eager to blabber off to a willing ear. This intense interest to learn and experience new things is at the crux of her passion for treasure hunting and overall adventuring and Echo is far less motivated by material wealth or some greater good.
Finally, after escaping the orphanage, Echo now has a bit of a hard time trusting other people. The tabaxi is incredibly outgoing and almost always beyond excited to gain a few companions, if only temporarily, but she will hesitate to entrust her wellbeing to any stranger willingly, along with gaining an ingrained caution toward authority figures and the law.

Hi Kestrel! Interesting character - can I just confirm which class you are taking at level 1 before I work out if all the math is correct? Sorry if it takes a day or so to get your character sheet set up - this will be our first multiclass!

Hey! Sorry I should have done a better job specifying, but I did all the stats with her being a 1st level rogue! I hardly ever multiclass so hopefully it all adds up.
And no problem!
