Appearance
At 5' 11" and 136 pounds, Enialis is quite tall and a bit heavy for an Elf. The most striking points of his physique are a pair of sparkling golden-hued eyes, and a long and unruly mane of silver-white hair adorned with tresses and mottled owl feathers. His lips are generally closed in a crooked half-smile, and the twinkle in his eyes dart from here to there, always searching, always alert. His build is wiry, more than bulgy, and his movements are swift and flowing, almost catlike.
Wearing a mottled gray and green cloak, Enialis appears to not be wearing any armour, only utilitarian clothing of good quality in dark grays, greens, and browns, the colours of stone and shadow. A scabbarded shortsword hangs from the left side of his belt, a dagger hangs from the right, and two pouches do the same in the front. His back is encumbered by a well-worn and full leather quiver, and a longbow of stout yew decorated with owl feathers on both ends. Only those truly observant notice a second dagger hinted at by a slight bulge on the inner side of his right boot.
History
Bounty hunter.
The words had different meanings for different people. For those who hired him, the words meant that their hands could be kept clean, and their time could be spent in other pursuits. For his quarry, they meant that, eventually, they would get caught, or killed, perhaps both. For Enialis, though, the words meant that he was able to eat three square meals a day, sleep under a roof without leaks, and wear clean clothing, even if it had to be patched once in a while. It also meant that he could bathe at least once a week using clean water and, most importantly, soap.
The fact that sometimes he would go without bathing and without changing clothes for weeks when tailing a target in the underbelly of the city was a non-factor. He was able to, even if he chose not and, to the elf, that was enough.
Waterdeep was a human-dominated city, where being human and being rich trumped everything. Well, almost everything, as he had learned with the passage of time. There were forms of power in the city that did not emanate either from being human or from being rich, and were respected by those in the know.
And one day I will be one of those.
It had all started with a chance encounter. Enialis was being beaten by a pair of thugs that relished on picking on the young elf when a stern-faced half-elf appeared. With swift, well-placed strikes from his weapons’ pommels, the half-elf soon rendered the two unconscious, all while dancing to a strange tune he hummed. Neither punch nor dagger directed at him had touched him even once.
“Not a city to come uninvited, Waterdeep. Better come with me. Do help me tie these two up first, though, while I get the ward’s watch to come fetch them”.
A while later six armed guards appeared, took the tightly bound thugs, and gave the half-elf a tinkling purse. “For your troubles, Casimir. Here is the posted reward, minus our trouble for coming here to fetch them”. The half-elf smirked, but said nothing. It was better to have the watch on your side. “Glad to have done business with you lads”, Casimir replied in an even tone. “We will see each other again, I am certain”.
That was how Enialis learned that some bounty hunters plied their trade in the cities of the world instead of in the open spaces or the thick forests. Casimir took him home, and offered him a cot, food, and drink in exchange for his services. “You are to keep my cottage clean, my clothes well mended, and my weapons, armour, and other equipment in working order. In exchange, besides food and lodging, I might teach you a thing or two”.
That had been the understatement of the century.
The next twenty years were spent not only as a servant, but also as an apprentice. Casimir turned out to be not only a master of his twin short blades, but also an accomplished wizard. To say that the half-elf was a deadly combatant would not have made him justice.
But time, that passed so slowly for Enialis, was not as kind to Casimir. The half-breed aged and, eventually, decided to retire. “I am getting too old for this”, he had told his pupil, “and I’d rather die of old age than from a well-placed shiv in the kidney”. There was a tinge of sadness in his words. “You can keep the cottage and, if you pay the rent on time, the landlady won’t give you any trouble. She pays the watch extra so her properties are well-guarded, so you can sleep at night with some semblance of safety. You also know most of my contacts, and they know I trained you, so you should have no trouble finding gainful employment either…”
The half-elf embraced his pupil. “I will miss you, son. But it is better that we part ways now”.
That had been two years ago. Now Enialis is a bounty hunter on his own, a bit green behind the ears still, but with a budding reputation for dealing fairly, and not killing unless provoked to.
Hopefully, the powers that be in Waterdeep have not noticed him, and won’t notice him for a few decades still…
Personality
Enialis has a ready smile, and is quick to laugh a muted laugh. When he does so, his eyes betray a keen intellect, one that does not take everything the eyes see at face value.
He is always calm, no matter what the situation. He seldom raises his voice or lets his emotions control him. Whoever gets angry first, he thinks, loses, and he does not like to lose, especially not when life is on the line.
He believes there is a spark of good in everyone. Unfortunately, sometimes that spark is very difficult or impossible to find. It is then when, reluctantly, that combat, even to the death, may be necessary.
He believes in freedom and goodness as essential for well-being, although he accepts laws as a necessary burden, especially in large communities. Cities he has learned to love, especially the less busy parts with parks and trees, but his trade has made him embrace even the seedier, darker sections as part of everyday life.

Background
Urban Bounty Hunter
Before he became an adventurer, his life was already full of conflict and excitement, because he made a living tracking down people for pay. Unlike some people who collect bounties, though, he isn't a savage who follows quarry into or through the wilderness. He is involved in a lucrative trade, in the place where he lives, that routinely tests his skills and survival instincts. What's more, he isn't alone, as a bounty hunter in the wild would be: he routinely interacts with both the criminal subculture and other bounty hunters, maintaining contacts in both areas to help him succeed.
He is a cunning hunter of evil, someone who has his ear to the street, aware of the doings of thieves and street gangs. The community where he plies his trade is one of Faerun's great metropolises, Waterdeep.
As a member of an adventuring party, he might find it more difficult to pursue a personal agenda that doesn't fit with the group's objectives but, on the other hand, he might be able to take down much more formidable targets with the help of his companions.
Feature Ear to the Ground
He is in frequent contact with people in the segment of society that his chosen quarries move through. These people are associated with the criminal underworld that festers in every city. This connection comes in the form of a contact in any city you visit, a person who provides information about the people and places of the local area. His current contact in Waterdeep is Ellewell, bartender of the ever popular Bowels of the Earth tavern in the Trades Ward, near Virgins' Square. He is also a fencer that easily disposes of stolen goods... for a price, of course.
