Echo exhaled as she pulled back the string on her crossbow and placed in a new bolt. By now the wound on her shoulder was a dull throb, adrenaline nulling the pain, and there was no sound or sign of additional bolts ripping through the tree. The tabaxi purred. She had lost them! The thick foliage had done its job like she had hoped. Still, she could not, just, sit there all day. It looked like there were at least a few of them in the area fighting back but, by the sounds of pained screaming, something sizzling close by, and the crash of a whole heap of things in the distance, the fight was very far from over. Echo cracked her neck, leveled her crossbow, poked her head out again, and-
Woah.
Maybe the fight was a little closer to being over than she had thought. Where the leader of the strange band of warriors had once stood was now a smoking pile of molten silver and blackened bones and, standing in front of them unscathed, was the warforged. Double woah. He was strong! Like, super strong! Echo had no idea what the big metal man had done to do, well, that, but she sure was glad he was on her side. The treasure hunter took another moment to sweep her eyes over the rest of the market. Off in the distance one of the spikey people had caught up to a bystander who now looked to be sporting an odd collar thing, while a bit closer a terrifyingly pretty elven woman covered in glittering shades of gold and skeletal protrusions loomed over the collapsed form of another marauder, her sword stained and the area littered with a spattering of broken trade goods. Not far from her was the blur man. By the tabaxi’s count that left two…maybe three of the spikey guys still up? Out of all of them she focused her attention on the one north of her, her crossbow already sighted in one the bolt she had lodged into his shoulder. Ha!
How do you like it, jerk?
As much satisfaction as it gave her, though, Echo knew better than to leave a job half-finished. A potentially super pissed off job that still had a crossbow, at that! Thwang. The tabaxi poked her weapon out from the branches and fired. She then dove back into the foliage, again using her dexterity and claws to scamper to a new branch. Echo then grabbed another bolt from her quiver and perked her ears for the sound of any retaliation.

When the leader fell, there was a momentary twitch across the faces of each of the marauders.
Across the distance between them all, their eyes flickered to each of their fellows in turn. Whatever internal communication they had only needed to take a split second to put their plan into action.
The marauder now sporting a second crossbow bolt courtesy of Echo raised his hand, and the campfire burning behind him – which had been used to cook delicious meat a few moments before – raises up over his head. The burning logs only stay there for a moment before he hurls them at the base of the tree with his mind, and the tree catches ablaze. It’ll take a few moments for the flames to reach high enough to seriously threaten the Tabaxi, but her safe perch has been ruined!
After launching his impromptu projectile, the marauder turned, and began to run deeper into the market.
The other two marauders simply blinked out of existence. One moment they were standing in their respective positions, in the very next they were moving to surround Crucible, blades drawn. The controlled civilian was less elegant about it, but moved smoothly through the narrow gap between stalls to place herself behind Naizelos and to Crucible’s side.
Only when all three were in position did they strike- the marauders with their hooked blades, the civilian with a dagger she had pulled from about her person. All attention now focused entirely on the divine servant that had struck down their leader, intent no longer on taking him in, but revenge for the very fallen.
Except, of course, the one who seemed to be… retreating.

As strange as the metal man was to behold it was clear to him that he was opposing the invaders, and thus was a valuable ally in the current situation. Naizelos would have liked to take prisioners, but usually that came after the situation had turned advantageous for them. And while the metal man looked like he could hold his own, being that he was, well, made of metal, he was not willing to gamble his potential advantage on the fact that he could hold his own against what now looked to be like three opponents. He had no idea why was the civilian targeting him as well, but he supposed the newcomers were working some kind of mind magic on him, it would not be unheard of.
He could have used spells against them, but for now, they did not seem like much of a threat and it would be wise to conserve his spells for later, when he really would've of need them against a superior foe, if such a foe ever came to be however. So it was that he drew his sword and he advanced towards the assailant south of the metal man, attacking him in turn with sword in hand. It was a reliable weapon to fall back on, specially considering he knew how to use it. He was hoping whoever his unknown ally was, he would realise the need to take hostages, or prisioners, to question later. That would mean leaving some alive.

It felt like divine intervention protected Crucible as he was surrounded. Through some miracle, no solid blow connected. Each slice and stab was met by stalwart metal and wood, protecting the warpriest. Beyond the ring of attackers, he spotted one marauder running from the battle. His gut instinct told him he needed to stop. Divine magic welled up within him, and a small sliver of the Voice of Moradin boomed forth, echoing Crucibles command; "Approach, you coward. Do not flee."

The adrenaline of a hard-won victory rushed through her veins like the heady bite of tart wine and for a moment Astra remained still, her hand gripping the weapon so tightly it had gone numb. After a tremulous breath the elf sheathed her shortsword and raised her free hand for the familiar to land on, the arcane jewel dangling loose from her fingers at the motion; Mitja accepted the spot with a too-satisfied squawk. She stared at its bright, cunning eyes—then exhaled, the sound leaving her body in a narrow, deflated hiss. “Thank you.”
The moment of sentiment gone, the elf thrust her hand to the side to jolt the bird off.
Now that the most immediate threat to her person was bleeding out on the ground, Astra was afforded a moment of clarity to observe her surroundings. Her eyes followed the trajectory of the shattered boxes which flew in out of nowhere and slammed into her opponent at the last second, and found a motley crew of defenders converging at the center of the marketplace. Among them, a familiar face: Crucible, the warforged, standing over a veritable pile of ash. Her hard, sunken gold eyes locked on the fleeing githyanki, and she advanced, boot crunching down on the collapsed corpse in her way.
As if sensing that there was nothing else to be had with the once-living marauder, the otherworldly imagery pulsed, an oily consistency to its movements, and dissolved onto the cobblestones. On the opposite end of the marketplace, the same tar-like goop appeared out of nowhere below the warrior’s feet, so there it almost seemed as if his heel was one press away from sinking into the stuff. Then the feelers unfurled like a sea anemone at the approach of prey, and a strange crackling thrummed through the air as a blackish-green orb hurtled towards the creature.
(Action: Astra sheathes her weapon, moves three squares north, transfers Hex to M3 as her bonus action, then attacks with Eldritch Blast. Do the stalls and materials in between add more difficulty to this roll? Familiar’s Action: From their starting position, Mitja flies nine squares west and dives into the stall.)

The cover grants some extra AC but that still hits; the marauder is now bloodied but still standing.

Echo sniffed.
The clinking and clanking of fighting continued outside her perch as she slipped the bolt onto her crossbow but, once again, there was no sound of other, unfriendly bolts flying at the tabaxi. Well, except for the dull thud of something slamming against the base of the tree. Ha! Echo snickered as she stretched her throbbing shoulder. What kind of aim was that? She sniffed a second time, coughed, and steadied her weapon. Like, really, was the one bolt in her just the luckiest shot? Or unluckiest for her, she supposed. Either way, it looked like the spikey guys would have a hard time hitting the flank of an adult dragon at this rate! Maybe even – Echo sniffed a third time as she prepared to poke out of her cover and her eyes widened. Was that…smoke? Like, a lot of smoke?
Huh. Well played, spikey guys, well played.
Sure enough, the treasure hunter could now see the thin black wisps trailing up around her and, looking down between her legs, Echo’s ears flattened as she saw the telltale glow of fire consuming the trunk. Maybe they were, uh, a little better at this than they let on! Unfortunately. Echo coughed a few more times as her breathing picked up and she pulled her scarf up to cover her mouth and nose. The smoke was becoming thick now, she could hear the sizzle and snap of bark being cracked open, and her pads could feel heat as she balanced on her branch above the flames. Not good. Like, really not good! Her treetop hideaway was compromised, that was super clear, but an escape route? Not so much.
Echo’s eyes narrowed as she leaned down and peered into the smoke. The entire trunk seemed ablaze and the lowest branches had also begun to smolder and spark, but maybe…there! On the far side of the tree, opposite to where it looked like one of the invaders had thrown a pile of burning logs, was a thin avenue along the trunk that had yet to catch. Though it really was narrow. The tabaxi slung her crossbow across her back and dared a deep breath. She glanced at her wound. She was small and a good climber to boot but, well, she had a questionably functional arm and for all she knew one of her enemies was waiting just out of sight to get her while she slipped down with her back turned. Echo swallowed and then shrugged. But, like, the other option was to sizzle in the tree like a feline kebab. When she thought about it like that?
Not so hard of a decision, really.
Echo exhaled, rubbed her shoulder, and then pulled her way over to the opposite side of the tree. Adrenaline and a little panic were now putting fresh life into her limbs and, with one final look to make sure a spikey guy was not obviously nearby, she tucked her bad arm in, wrapped her tail around her waist, and then slid off the branch. Everything became hot. The tabaxi rode the trunk of the tree, one set of claws dug into bark to slow her descent and her feet pressed on either side to prevent her body from swinging into the flames, but she could still feel them lick at her back and sides. One second, two…she yelped as a spray of smoldering ashes rolled across her body and Echo let go of the trunk. As soon as her pads hit the ground, she was off. Tail a slight singed, little black holes in her clothes, and her hand scraped from the rough descent, but she was far from crispy and still had her fur as she sprinted her way across the market. That was a big plus!
Echo kept running. She ducked and weaved and danced with feline grace through a few of the market stalls and abandoned crates and bags and made her way to the far side of the fight. She spared a quick glance to the left - the fight had now devolved into a cluster with their stalwart warforged at the center - a quick wave and chipper “Hiya!” to the right - the pale woman was now close by - and then dove behind a table covered in earthenware. The tabaxi nudged her crossbow back off her shoulders. She was a little worse for wear, true, but she was far from being out of the fight. Echo propped the weapon up on the table and took aim at one of the invaders, their back turned away from her new vantage point. Big mistake!
Thwang.
------------------------------------------
Move: Echo will use Cunning Action to Dash and add on Feline Agility (120' total possible movement) to climb 10' down the tree opposite the fire and then move an extra 75' to the earthenware stall north of Astra.
Action: Echo will attack M4 with her light crossbow and, because they're engaged with Crucible and Naizelos, gets a sneak attack in as well!

With the chaos of this section of the market dying down, the noise of battle from further in the market can be heard more clearly. Between crossbow bolts and magical assault, the fourth raider was brought low, and as the one who had been leaving to head deeper into the market found himself mesmerised and stumbling through the market to stand before Crucible, his ally spat with disgust upon the ground. He shouted a few unfamiliar words which, nevertheless, were clear in their admonishment, and then sighed and shrugged his shoulders. One last word: "Vish-malar." And he disappeared in a shimmer of purple light, leaving his helpless companion to stand where he had stood. As the raider regained his senses, he looked briefly horrified - there were a lot of adventurers left, and just him... (We're still in combat time; next up is Malakbel - anyone who is trained in arcana can make an arcana check to determine what just happened with the one who disappeared)

With the immediate threat now gone he turned his focus instead to the nearest assailant still alive. And by that he meant the only one who was clearly a threat thus far, that was, the githyanki invader. The civilian as much as he could have been turned into a mindless slave he remained as harmless as he had been before, at least, to a heavy armored opponent as the metal man was, and he figured, he also fitted inside that category and would be hard to harm. Thus, the assailant was the most logical target. The spell however would only work if he did not possess the resilence needed to resist it. It worked better on small beasts or those weak of spirit, and he sure hoped that the githyanki would be the equivalent of a fresh recruit or simply a run of the mill soldier, because otherwise he was about to waste one useful spell on trying to take a prisioner because of his haste.
Naizelos brought his right hand up and casted a spell to put the marauder to sleep, uttering the words as the weave was made to take the shape of the desired effect, tugging at the right strings to make him fall asleep should his resilience not match the might of the spell. Granted, it wasn't that mighty, but also there was no need for it to be so. It was one of the rare cases where he would rather miss because it had been to little, than overdoit with too much. It simply wasn't worth it right now, and should he need it, it looked like many other opportunities to take prisioners would arise, judging by his surroundings.

The Voice of Moradin welled up insed of Crucible again as he spoke to the collared civilian. "Kneel, and you will be saved". He had no intentions of harming a civilian unless absolutely necessary, and he was reasonably sure that someone in the city could deal with the collar. Regardless, he would not be the one to hurt the civilian.
