Biography
Character Name: Crispin (Stage Name: "Crispy Embers")
Character Level: 3
Race: Variant Human
Gender: Male
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Deity: N/A
Size: Medium
Hair: Dark brown, a bit shaggy
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 163
Age: 27
Appearance: Crispin is a human with a lithe figure that's perfect for his chosen profession. He's not overly tall or imposing, and his body is on the thin, wiry side, built for speed and dexterity. His dark brown hair is about chin length and shaggy, and he frequently has a bit of light stubble on his face. His style of dress changes according to the situation. He's quite good at blending in when he has to, choosing clothing that matches the style of wherever he is, whenever needed. On stage, he's all about flamboyant costumes, while he's usually in more subdued colors for adventuring. No matter the situation, though, his preferred clothing is rather stylish and impeccable, and it's clear he takes good care of it and his overall appearance.
History: Crispin grew up poor in Daggerford. He never knew his father, and his mother was prone to delusions, especially religious ones. He also had two siblings: a cruel older brother, and a sickly younger sister. Every summer, a circus would arrive in town and brighten Cris' spirits. From a young age, he picked up a trick here and there each year from a kind circus showman who was basically a mentor. He started performing in the streets around town to earn extra money to his brother's dismay. The circus stopped showing up one year in Cris' mid-teens, though, which disappointed him greatly.
Tragedy struck one night during a thunderstorm when his mother and sister both disappeared. Cris searched for them in vain, but they ended up drowned in the Shining River. He blamed his brother, who should have been watching their mother more closely. After an explosive argument, Cris ended up killing his brother. He took off for Waterdeep after that, to get away and start a new life. After performing in the streets for a couple years, the circus showed back up, and Cris finally joined them.
The circus, it turned out, was a disguised band of assassins who had been on the run from a rival gang (hence why they'd disappeared for a time). Cris started to train as an assassin as well as entertainer, honing both of these skills over the years that followed. After their rivals killed his mentor, Cris retaliated against them… but they just came back harder, killing the whole troupe except for Cris. At this point, Cris wants revenge against those rivals, but he also knows he has to bide his time and lay low. He's also gotten a taste of freedom from life on the road, so he doesn't want the stagnation of settling down. He's looking for the next big thing, and to reinvent himself, so why not return to Waterdeep?
Personality:
Crispin is a darkly charismatic fellow, naturally charming in a subtle way. He's cheerfully nihilistic about life overall: he thinks there shouldn't be some overarching point to existence, and that this is perfectly great, as it represents the ultimate freedom to make of it what he will. Although he's a performer who revels in entertaining others, he's not all in your face when off stage, and in fact has a tendency to blend in well in a given situation. But he commands a room fully when he starts a routine. He genuinely enjoys being around people and figuring out what makes them tick. He's intelligent in a cunning and crafty sort of way. Since he is a natural performer, he's excellent at deception and putting on disguises to fool others. He's sneaky, evasive, swift, and dextrous. He cares deeply for what's "his", whether that's his team, or his stuff. Since he grew up poor, he's a bit obsessed with keeping his possessions in good condition. To him, assassination is yet another form of art like performance, so he doesn't take killing lightly.
On the negative side, Cris is given to overthinking, which sometimes makes him seem indecisive. He's not quick to trust, and isn't all that concerned with "the greater good" or law and order, although he's also not actively trying to overthrow anything. He just values his personal freedom deeply, and because of his past, he's extremely skeptical of religion and other major institutions. Basically, he tends to think "people" as a collective force suck, but individual persons are really amazing. Honor and religion are both sort of funny jokes in his mind. He can be prone to being a bit on the dreamy side at times, and gets carried away often, and can tend toward exaggeration too. He's not above small lies and stories about himself to throw people off from getting too close to the real him. Sometimes, it's as if he never truly stops performing a part of some sort. While clever, he's not exactly "wise", so he can be said to be lacking common sense. He's not exactly all that physically strong, either, since he favors speed and agility so much more.

At such a place, you receive free lodging and food of a modest or comfortable standard (depending on the quality of the establishment), as long as you perform each night. In addition, your performance makes you something of a local figure. When strangers recognize you in a town where you have performed, they typically take a liking to you.

Magic Initiate (Bard) (Variant Human): Prestidigitation, Minor Illusion, and Faerie Fire
