With the raven providing an aerial view, the party ventured forward at a more relaxed pace - the bird could scope out the air, and that meant it was harder for them to be ambushed, even if they were following a trail of destruction.
The general feel of the forest around them was definitely growing darker, more menacing, more... disturbing, as though the trees were no longer quite so welcoming as they once had been.
Then, behind them, they heard the howl.
A terrifying, loud, echoing noise - coupled with a CRASH as something HARD hit a tree perhaps a few dozen feet back from the group. An echoing SCREAM cut through from ahead of them--
Oh. There's not one of them. There's two?!
(And, initiatives!)

Just to confirm - Order is Miri, Monsters, Solstice, Ilar - I'm not going to worry about a map for this one, there is currently no visible threat but Miri gets a round to prep before events unfold.

Miri drew her shortsword, holding it tightly in one hand, and moved closer to Solstice, grinning, keeping the three of them close together - but not too close. Snubnose squeaked, loudly and irritatedly, and gripped her studded leather armor more tightly with little claws.
"This should be interesting," Miri said, cheerfully. She readied herself to cast booming blade on the first enemy to enter her range.

It is likely that everyone present had seen bears before; whether in the wilderness, put on display or used for barbaric sport in less civilised areas of Faerun, the common bear is not a particularly unusual sight. Such creatures were usually relatively sedate, however, unless one was unlucky enough to encounter them in the wild and somehow be perceived as a threat to the bear’s cubs.
Not so with these examples.
Each one of the bears was enormous, six feet to the shoulder and nearly twice that when rearing back. They loped from either side of the adventurers, hemming them in between them as though determined to capture and pin their prey – behaviour which even the most ignorant of city folk should recognise as aberrant. Bears are not pack hunters.
The final, non-too-subtle, hint that something was wrong was with the eyes. Glowing with a dark, violet energy, the creatures corporeal forms were not just larger than they should be but were clearly afflicted or possessed by some malevolent force. One which had driven them to smash and careen their way through the forest, and then round on these interlopers into their domain.
(The bears are moving up fast but they are not stealthy so the team have a full round to take actions before the bears will have closed in for melee)

"Oh, Mielikki...what has been done to your children...."Familiar with forest creatures, bears included, Solstice was quick to realize that something was very, very wrong. Normal bears never behaved like this, that much was true even before she saw those glowing eyes. Her hope for communication withered, a cold pit forming in her stomach; they were corrupted by something vile, and whether or not they could be saved was a moot point when they would soon be fought in self-defense. Nonetheless, the firbolg remembered her oath and stood firm, quickly casting a Bless spell upon herself, Miri and Ilar. Her faith would bolster them in their time of need, whatever her concerns about this corruption. They would get to the root of it, but first they had to survive this. She stood firm, sword drawn and shield ready. Action: Casting Bless (+1d4 to all Attacks/Saving Throws) Movement: None Spells: (1st) 3/4 (2nd) 2/2 Skell

As he entered the skin of the raven, he could hear the song of steel echoing through the forest. It was the armor of Solstice, the weapons both her and Miri carried. For a moment he almost thought to have heard the rattle of his own chain shirt. Hyde was no creature of the forest, despite his form. He belonged to a darker, deeper place but even him could see, they were strangers, each and every one of them. It would take little effort to find them by smell or sound, a thought that evoked the image of the broken trees.
Somewhere in his mind he envied the Imp. When a devil perishes outside of The Nine Hells they simply reappear in Baator. Under the form in which they experienced, so to speak, death but physically recovered. Arcanists use to say that a demotion awaits slain devils but to Ilar it sounds far better than a definitive death. Not that he feared his passing. Since long there was no secret on what awaits him beyond this world. It was the idea of failing, of dragging the others to their graves that he feared. Olorae, his predecessor on the pact with Darkmoon, used to say that is easier to bear the burden of death than the weight of lives. Words that always made Ilar think that she questioned, maybe even regretted, her decision to seal the pact with the Raven Queen. Now he could understand what she truly meant.
Time passed, and while Solstice guided his blinded and deafened body Ilar kept trying to find any kind of beast capable to leve the trail of devastation they followed on the ground but finding such creature was proving to be unexpectedly challenging. It was not his first time seeing through the eyes of his familiar. They were not as sharp as those of an owl or hawk, those too he had tried, despite the cost, but should be enough. Maybe it’s not through sight we’ll find it, he thought imagining if wouldn’t be better to have Hyde assume the form of a bat. Miri had a weasel, after all, and that should be enough to search for smells. But then he remembered he had none of the materials needed to actually change the form of his contracted fiend. Ten gold pieces worth of incense, charcoal and herbs to be given to the fire of a brazier. An exaggeration, specially considering that Hyde would be more than happy to attend almost any call in exchange for some ale, meat and potatoes. Time would also be a problem. An entire hour stopped in the woods didn’t look like the wisest of choices at that moment.
The first howl he heard from the skies, loud as thunder, and before Solstice had herself freed from his hand he was back with his senses. Then came the sounds of a tree being felled and a second howl, just as strong and menacing as the first. One of his fears had come true, the beast was not alone. Keep alert and tell me if a third appears, he commanded telepathically his imp while the creatures showed themselves. Bears, each one with almost twice his height and eyes filled with a strange form of energy. It would be no surprise if the beasts’ size and strength was the result some sort of spell craft.
While Miri approached Solstice mentioned the name of a goddess. Ilar had heard druids call for her since the time he was an apprentice alchemist and even though he knew close to nothing about the Forest Queen thanks to her mention he could understand a little better what kind of warrior his companion was. He positioned himself between his two allies, preparing to attack with his Eldritch Blast the first bear to come too close.
“Let’s hope it ends fast.” He replied to Miri trying to sound as calm as possible. They had yet to reach the clearing so the sooner they ended the conflict the better.
Action: Ready Eldritch Blast against the first bear to attack (enter the spell range). Movement: Ilar position himself between Solstice and Miri, if possible equidistantly.

“All right, down,” Miri jerked her shoulder, and the ferret skidded down the back of her leather armor, disappearing into the grass at the feet of the adventurers. ’Go hide,’ she commanded the familiar.
Miri readied her shortsword, feeling the boost from Solstice’s murmured spell. She darted forward, closing the distance to the nearest of the enormous bears, and struck, murmuring the words to cast Booming Blade.
The moment the attack was loosed, whether it struck or not, Miri would peel away and dart back towards Solstice and Ilar, rejoining them once more.
Miri closes to the bear and attacks with booming blade! Action: Booming blade Bonus action: Dash (to cover the distance there and back, if necessary)

Apologies guys, I'm calling an end to this one as the move and delays have caused issues - not least of which is that I've lost my notes.
Rewards have been given out.
