“Hey,” Miri said, slowly, an echo of puzzlement in her voice. “I think – ”
Abruptly, what Miri could have sworn was the ceiling seemed to flung itself at her. There was a vague sense of razor sharp teeth coming her way, and then something clamped down on her, gripping her tightly and - biting her? No - those didn't quite feel like teeth but - Ow! That hurt! That really hurt!
“WHAT THE F–“ Miri thrashed, vigorously, back and forth, flailing. She couldn’t get free; she couldn’t move; she couldn’t do anything. After a moment, she managed to at least get her mouth free.
“GET IT OFF ME!”

Stephen had never encountered a mimic. He had heard of them, of course. Terrible creatures that would sighise themselves and ambush adventurers. So the unlocked chest and the paintings of hungry chests made it obvious where the trap was.
Until the ceiling dropped and started attacking Miri. For a brief moment, he felt foolish. For another, awed and inspired by the ingenuity. Then he remembered what was happening. He pivot on the ball of his lead foot, maintaining his stance as he turned to fire an arrow at the creature. He loosed the arrow, praying he didn't hurt Miri.

“STAND FIRM IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS!”
CLANG-clangclangclang-CLOMPRATTLErattlerattle.
Sister Valerie’s arrival on the scene was announced by both her incredibly loud voice and the insistent, stealth-destroying loudness of her armour. Carefully situating herself so that she can look into the room and survey the situation, she remains impressively level-headed considering the bizarre nature of the attack, even if ‘calm’ is not precisely the word that ever applied for Sister Valerie.
She raised her shield up high, and the scales of Tyr glowed with brilliant white energy. Holy Power moved within her heart, and as she spoke, it crackled through the air, striking out to touch Miri, Kieran and Crispin.
Where it touched, they would find themselves Blessed. The Holy POWER of TYR surging within their hearts, lifting them higher and higher in the cause of JUSTICE and TRUTH! Fresh energy renewing and bolstering their already (she was absolutely confident) MOST fine spirits!
“Hold your heads up HIGH my friends! For this day you fight alongside TYR! The Maimed God can never fall! Never falter! Let HIS strength be YOUR strength! Let HIS spirit be YOUR spirit!”
With a truly impressive rattle and twist, she twirled on the spot, completing a graceful spiral in her full, clanging plate mail, before pointing her free hand out directly towards Miri.
And smiling.
“Fret NOT my Sister. This may look dire, but I know you’ve been in worse situations than this! Don’t let that ratty piece of furniture freak you out! Just believe in yourself, trust your instincts, and you’ll never fail!”
She winked, and the contagious, utterly unfounded confidence she felt in her companion settled on Miri’s shoulders like a mantle. Of course she couldn’t fail. She’s Miri GODDAMN Blackstone. What was she even worrying about?!
(Movement: Get into position roughly centre-back for party comp Action: Bless - Whenever a target (Miri, Kieran, Crispin) makes an attack roll or a saving throw, they can add a 1d4 to it. - Level 1 spell slot, 1 minute, concentration Bonus Action: Bardic Inspiration for Miri. "...clever trick..." Crispin just got the words out under his breath, a bit in amused admiration at the misdirection involved in that trap. Now, there was an ingenious idea that could make for a good twist in a show! There would be time later to consider that, though. For now, he drew his rapier and sword sword both, and slashed toward the creature, also doing his best to aim for it and avoid hitting Miri. He might not have been much of a fan of gods and all the rest of it, but he also wasn't about to say no to a little added boost from Valerie. The important part was that it worked. That was literally all he cared about, not where the magic was necessarily coming from.

Warden and Stephen's attacks have pierced the mimic's hide, wounding the creature though not critically so. Its grip on Miri remains ironclad, and it takes advantage of her inability to break that grapple. Recoiling from the blows, it snarls and doubles down, biting her and lashing out with its pseudopod again. Despite the danger, it doesn't appear to be giving Miri up without a lot more hassle.
(All of Miri's attacks have disadvantage, due to Miri being grappled.)

T his very first room they'd opened to explore had tricked them all quite wickedly, and had Kieran had a moment to himself to even consider his own foolishness, he would have. Unfortunately, the wall revealed nothing, no, it was the godsbedamned ceiling that decided to show itself the real danger—the entire room an elaborate trap meant to catch unwary visitors right in its very jaws—only, as far as he knew, Miri wasn't entirely unaware of her surroundings on a regular basis, but ... they'd all been caught cleverly off-guard. "Well, shit." He growled in Undercommon, followed by a few far more unsavory curses. He was moving, drawing his weapon, compact dark body coiling like a startled serpent, ready to strike. The Sister of Volume's voice rang out in the room, not in despair or fear, but in encouragement, a tangible sensation of warmth and empowerment mingling with the rush of adrenaline and pure reactive fire like some dangerous alchemical combination all hidden from view in the narrow cavity of the half-drow's chest. RubyWarden and Stephen gave the chest-shaped monster what looked like a decent smashing, while Crispin's blows seemed to only piss the thing off more, and Kieran growled when the mimic crunched down harder, set into swift (but not swift enough) motion by the sounds of pain growing quiet instead of louder. Unleashing a quick succession of well-practiced attacks at the tooth-filled, vicious thing, the half-drow slashed first with his weapon—perhaps far more cautiously than he should have—following the motion of his upper body with a swift, hard kick toward the thing. The fluid movement ended with the forceful fist of his free hand flying upward into the upper part of the chest-like shape as if attempting to convince it to open it's gross, evil jaws.

Seeing the Miri remain in the grasp of the mimic infuriated Warden, and so did the rogue going limp after that multi assault from both bite and appendages. Her urge to skewer the creature doubled, but she was thwarted from immediate satisfaction thanks to the blade of her glaive adhering to its skin. Her solid red eyes narrowed and her jaw clenched; this was a solid lesson for later, that melee combat wasn't suitable for everything at the moment with a companion down, she wasn't going to take it in stride.
Her anger boiled over and she gripped the glaive's shaft, giving it a solid yank. "Fuck OFF--"
Strength save (ignore the +5, it should be a +3 but she got a nat 20 anyway, so): 0dw84nU_1d20+5
Finally ripping her weapon free, Warden instantly readied it. Her urge to skewer the creature doubled, and her solid red eyes narrowed as she uttered a curse in infernal, damning it to suffer under the sheer force of her hatred. With that, she swung her glaive and prayed to Selune that it would strike true.

Things were spiraling out of control quickly. One person was downed, and the party hadn't made it through he first room yet. He watched as the the others struggled to free their weapons form the sticky hide of the amorphous monster. "Bows, crossbows, and spells if you have them!" while he was certain the others realized why they should try to attack from afar, he found that it never hurt to clarify and repeat information. He readied and fired another arrow at the abomination.

Sister Valerie’s eyes widened as Miri was sent down. It was a terrible thing to behold, and whilst Stephen could implore her to focus fire on the creature as much as he liked, there was not a chance in any of the Nine Hells that she was going to do anything other than return Miri to health.
She gave a flick of her wrist, and brilliant blue energy surged up around Miri as she spoke a single word of thrumming power.
“Rise!”
All at once, life burst in Miri’s chest as the grievous wounds inflicted by the malevolent creature were driven back under the strength of Valerie’s faith.
The full strength and force of her fury was directed, then, at the monster which had dared to strike at her comrade in arms.
“You dare to think you can even BEGIN to compare to MIRI BLACKSTONE?!” She roared, her voice THUNDERING off the walls, “All you’ve succeeded in doing is making her angry! Why, I wouldn’t want to be you right now. If you HAD boots you’d be quaking in them! For under TYR’S RIGHTEOUS LIGHT not a single soul shall fall prey to your UNWORTHY DECEPTION, BEAST!”

Ah, hell! Now things were getting a bit too serious, as Miri was taking such a brutal beating from this ghastly wall-mimic. So that first attempt to strike the creature didn't go as well as expected, and funny enough the blow from his off-hand ended up better than his primary one. Ugh. Maybe he was more rusty than he'd thought, since he hadn't been on a proper adventure like this in a while. Stephen's call didn't go unheeded, either. Ha! This had to the one time in his life he'd ever actually listened to someone in the City Watch... But in the heat of battle, he didn't care exactly where his allies stood, as long as they stood together. Crispin wanted this creature dead, and he didn't want to see any of their people dead. Sure, they'd all only just met, but his troupe was his troupe, whatever form it took, and however temporary. He was definitely getting tired of seeing it have its "fun" with Miri.
So, while Valerie got to healing Miri, Crispin hastily dropped his other weapons in favor of drawing his bow, readying an arrow and letting that fly.
"You've put on a hell of a show, but now it's time for the curtain to fall!"
That would either be sort of awkward, or appropriately dramatic, depending on whether or not he had better luck this time...
