T he half-drow squinted at the wand warily, unable to read anything on it and unsure if it would really prove itself useful to anyone, considering they were lugging around a fistful of keys they'd yet to find a use for, a crystal, and now, this emerald-crusted doodad spit out by a statue built by some vain wizard. All they were here for was a damn unicorn statue! Back down the hall they went as a group, Warden ready to keep moving—all of them probably ready to find some answers instead of continuing to collect clues—and as they made their way down the stairs, Kieran pointed, "One 'f these rooms smells 'f fire, so we'd best be careful." They made their way toward the nearest door and before anyone could even investigate whether it was safe or not, the tiefling had it open. The glitter of metalic shine filled their vision, an uncountable pile of what appeared to be coins of all kinds filling the room in piles. His violet gaze flicked upward to what was written and then back down, realizing how the coins were arranged— Kieran laughed, shaking his head, "Well, shit. I don't want any 'f this. It's fake an' it won't buy us a glorified mythical horse, that's for damn sure. I wonder 'f we could shove these coins back 'n that safe, though?"He didn't want to touch them, the half-drow too worried some trap was buried beneath them. There was something about the sheer amount of wealth that made the once-urchin uncomfortable. He'd never been motivated by material wealth so much as security, and he'd already decided that wealth was just a much a source of trouble as it was of comfort. This whole place had been full of illusions, and Kieran didn't want to find his end buried in worthless fake coins. "If they're not worth anythin', then there's nothin' they can ever buy. I don't think I can afford th' trouble, to be fair." Kieran took a step back, grinning a little, but the expression was perhaps a bit strained. He glanced to Stephen with a note of caution before tilting his head back out into the hall, looking to Warden and Miri in hopes of convincing one of them of the soundness of his suggestion, "M'haps we should check out th' next room 'stead 'f diggin' 'n all that, eh? Or, at least, I'm not gonna dig through all 'f that an' waste more time. Hours, maybe, even with all 'f us helpin'. Y' think what we're lookin' for 's in here?" He didn't. He took the other few steps back out of the room to squint at the rest of the doors in the hallway, attempting to discern from which one the scent of fire had come from.

Kieran couldn't discern where exactly that scent was coming from, but on the way out of the coin room a magic mouth forms, in the same snide tone of the wizard from the statue. "You lot are surprisingly intelligent! The alley's boon is yours."
(For the next hour, Kieran and anyone else who leaves without taking the coins are under the effect of a Bless spell.)

Warden didn't see the arrangement initially, but Miri and Stephen helpfully pointing it out made her feel quietly foolish for not realizing it earlier. She huffed and stepped away from the coins after a suspicious stare, nodding to Kieran as she turned to follow him. "Even when he compliments, he's still an asshole. Lovely."
She rolled her eyes, then paused by the next door on the right, raising an eyebrow as if to say 'ready?'. Starting to get reckless the longer they go, she didn't think to ask anyone to check for traps on the door...which fortunately for her there weren't any this time. The door opened to reveal a room with a winding path of bright yellow tiles that lead from the western door to the northern one. The walls have all been decorated with intensely detailed murals depicting Helmite funerary rituals as well as a dozen mages, all holding the holy symbol of Mystra, hiding in the background.
"Okay...so follow the yellow tiles? Is it that simple, or am I missing something?"

Miri stared at the coins for a long moment. They looked exceptionally real - but, then, she knew better than to try and pass false coin within Waterdeep, and she didn't exactly plan to leave the city for the near future. She knew better than to try and touch them to move them aside - not if she didn't want to, uh, accidentally slip a few away for later.
"All right," Miri said, reluctantly, and crossed her arms over her chest, tucking her hands into her armpits and wandering back out of the room with a last, longing glance over her shoulder.
Miri let out a low whistle at the sight of the room in front of them, curious. "That uh - that does seem a bit... obvious," Miri said, grinning. "Shouldn't there be some puzzle to make us feel like an idiot? Some weird - uh - you know, complicated puzzle?" She examined the room closely.

While he was a bit unsure about those coins, Miri and the others confirming that they were fake was quite the disappointment. Oh, well. Better to take their word for it than to be bothered with something that would prove ultimately useless. Crispin sighed and shook his head at the sight of those coins, but then made himself turn around and head out to explore the next room.
He couldn't help but roll his eyes when that voice boomed out at them. "So glad we meet his approval. Though to be fair, we'd be having a harder time if we didn't..." He still can't help but feel they're unintentionally putting on a show of sorts for him. Now, on to the next room, surely there will be something worth grabbing in there.
As he glanced around this next room, Crispin furrowed his brow. It did seem almost too easy, hm...

"Anyone see anything?" Miri asked after a moment, tilting her head to the side. She glanced around, then back at the blank faces of the rest of the party. "Well, no sense in standing around," Miri said, cheerfully. With that, she took a step onto the first of the yellow tiles - she didn't bother testing it carefully with her toes or hovering over it, just stepped solidly onto the tile. If nothing else happened, she would continue along the yellow tile path, sauntering, shortsword lightly held in one hand.
"Seems fine!" Miri called back after a few steps, and kept walking, taking the meandering yellow path to the other door. She squinted at it, examining it closely.

After close inspection, Miri didn't notice any locks, traps or other items of interest on the door.
Warden, seeing Miri and getting impatient, called out to her. "Are we good to go, then? I'm gonna give it a shot." She began to follow, keeping to the path and turning as need be to reach her companion on the other side of the room. It didn't seem to react to her any more than Miri; her heavy armor had no effect. So far, so good. Her gaze briefly flitted to the murals, but she was more curious about the door that Miri found, and the tiefling woman reached her with a cocked smile.
"Not much of a puzzle, but I'll take it."

E veryone made their way toward the hall and Warden made her very forceful choice of a door in her usual way. Kieran glanced in the room, noting the yellow tiles. Miri glanced in the room, also noting the yellow tiles. Crispen and Stephen glanced in the room, both, amazingly, also noting the yellow fucking tiles. "It'd be just our lu—oh. Well—" The half-drow had a witty retort to the tiefling's question or perhaps to Miri's puzzle observation or Crispin's commentary, but then woman next to him just stepped out on to one of the tiles without a second glance. A few other steps and Kieran tensed, violet gaze sweeping the walls, waiting to hear a voice. When nothing happened, he realized his hand had strayed rather close to his weapon, and he finally exhaled an expectant breath through grit teeth. He smirked, attempting to do the same as Miri had: he crossed the room by only stepping on the yellow tiles, carefully looking around the room as he moved from tile to tile, perhaps more cautious about whether or not the tiles were at all sticky ... unable to entirely forget the chagrin of the stairs. Once across, he found himself making sure to share tiles and space with the less cautious ladies who'd crossed the room before him, thankfully lithe and small-statured and uncompromisingly coy enough to pull it off while looking over the next door, "I'm sure 't won't be fine for long. There's prob'ably a trick somewhere, but I wouldn't complain 'f we figured one out quicker 'an th' rest."

His practiced eye traced the outline of the door, carefully analyzing every Crack and seam. He moved on the door itself, looking for any signs of a trap. The handle was next, paying particular interest to the possibility of contact poisons. No detail went overlooked as he investigated the door.

Thanks to Stephen's training and close inspection, he could be certain that the door was neither trapped, locked or otherwise created with an obstacle to gaining entrance. Perhaps the room and path itself were enough of a test, but regardless, there was nothing to fear from opening the door...at least, on this side. moralhazard

"Well," Miri said, cheerfully, once Stephen had confirmed the door was unlocked and apparently untrapped. "I don't see any point in waiting."
With that, she stepped forward and opened the door.
