Just after striking, Avren moved back into the shadows in order to regain the edge lost by her arrow. She narrowed her eyes as the goblin approached the prisoner, certain it wouldn't end for the latter if action wasn't taken then and there. After taking aim once more, she unleashed another arrow at the goblin and hoped it would wound their enemy just enough to stop what he was about to do.

Avren darts out of the shadows and looses her arrow, but is unable to hit the darting goblin. Lykus steps up behind her and throws a handaxe over her shoulder.

The human man looks pretty rough. He has several swollen bruises and cuts all over his head and his graying hair is matted to his head with dried blood. His arms are tied behind his back, uncomfortably tight, as well as his ankles being bound. A filthy rag gags his mouth.

Once the goblin fell, Avren put her bow away and approached. She gave a nod to Lykus, pleased with his work. She only cared about whether or not the goblin was dead, not who claimed the final blow.
Crouching by the human back, she looked him over and winced. Goblins weren't known for their human treatment so she wasn't surprised, but nonetheless repulsed. "Well, that won't do. Don't squirm...." She began to untie his arms and ankles, as gently as she possibly could manage.

Lykus jogs up after Avren to join Aronin around the captive human. Then he contemplated a very foreign thought. After a moment's pause he took the other healing potion and put it to the human's lips as Arorin untied him.
"Here, this will help."
The man seems to recognise the potion and gratefully accepts it.

It looked like the captive was being cared for adequately, so Aronin wandered over to the dead goblin who lied in a heap. He was curious to try and discover whether this abduction was premeditated, or whether it was just a wrong place at the wrong time situation. He curiously kicked at the body and flipped it over with his foot, then started to study the body and go through his belongings.

Aronin turns over the goblin captor. You find a small pouch containing 15 silver pieces and 3 gold teeth weighing each about as much as a gold coin. As you go through his belongings the man continues to speak;
"If you're looking for the map, it's gone." (You remember the empty map case you came across by the ambush site on the road)
He stands up and coughs up some blood, which he spits at the body of the goblin.
"Please tell me they're all dead, I saw them rushing out of here all fired up this morning. I'm guessing if you're here and they're not..."
He trails off, realising he's answered his own question.
"Well good."
He takes a moment to inspect your party, noticing the composition of races, and a small amount of relief falls over him.
"You're the lot Gundren hired to meet him in Phandalin, aren't you? Well I'm afraid, he won't be there to make the meeting. I assume you met Klaarg? He had the dwarf and his map sent to Cragmaw Castle, wherever that is."

Avren stood back up, giving the newly-freed captive some room. "Give yourself a minute, let the circulation come back to those limbs...." She nodded at mention of Gundren, sharing a glance with the others. The news of his whereabouts made her frown and she shook her head. "Dammit, of course this wasn't the end of it. Cragmaw Castle? I wonder if anyone in Phandalin would be able to point us in the right direction, then? At the very least, we could all use a chance to rest and stock up. We're not going to be much good to Gundren as we are, so hopefully he can hold on a bit longer...."

He nods,
"Yes, someone in Phandalin should know, or failing that, I think if you found some goblins to, uh, purposefully ask, they might know.
If you could provide me with an escort into the town, I'd gladly pay you fifty gold pieces."
Looking around the cavern, his eyes settle on the sword of the fallen goblin. He picks it up and gives it a few swings in the air. You immediately recognise the form and training of a fellow swordsman.
Sheathing the sword in his ragged belt, he extends his hand to each of you,
"I'm Sildar Hallwinter, of The Lord's Alliance - Griffon Cavalry of Waterdeep."
You are both schooled in history and you've heard much of The Lord's Alliance. They are a group of allied political powers concerned with mutual security and prosperity. Members of the order ensure the safety of cities and other settlements by proactively eliminating threats by any means, while bringing honor and glory to their leaders and homelands.
He goes on,
"I was heading to Phandalin to check in on one of our agents, a wizard named Iarno Albrek. He went there to set up an outpost but we haven't heard from him since he left two months ago.
Gundren needed an escort and I agreed to accompany him. His found a map leading to a secret place called Wave Echo Cave. Apparently it's the site of the mines of the Phandelver's Pact.
I heard the goblins saying that Klaarg had orders from some 'Black Spider' to waylay Gundren and bring him and his map to the castle."
[You can both make history checks]

More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver’s Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.
A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.

Aronin stood motionless thinking about what Sildar mentioned. His curiosity was peaked, and he had a real chance of discovering a long lost magical mine. Although he looked to mull over his thoughts on making a decision, it did not take very long to happily walk up to the man with an excited grin.
"Count me in Sildar, I would like to see this through. I'll accompany you to Phandelin, and will try to figure out how to reach this castle and save Gundren."
The wizard held out his hand for Sildar to shake.
"Will you two come along?"
