The guard swung; the spear lanced forward towards Ali, a brutally powerful blow that seemed to be aimed straight for the gnome's heart. If it hit her, the blade would surely pierce her leather armor and maybe even go straight through her chest. Then, abruptly, a new figure swung into view, twisting around the ladder and dropping quite literally down into the fight, landing more or less on top of the spear and deflecting it off to the side. She spun, two short swords in her hand, and attacked the guard with both. Between Ali's powerful blow and the newcomer's perfectly aimed strike, the guard dropped, spear tumbling from his hands.
The woman stopped it with her boot, and raised an eye at Ali, very deliberately examining the gnome from head to toe. She was tall, at least, relative to the gnome, more than five and a half feet tall, and dressed in studded leather armor. She had two short swords in her hands, a rapier strapped to her hip, and a shortbow strapped to her back, and the glints of a few daggers tucked into her armor.
Miri winked, placing a finger to her lips, and crouched, all but murmuring to Ali. "So, what brings a cute thing like you to a place like this?" Nonchalantly, she wiped her blades clean on the guard's armor, and tucked them away.

Alitranna was dumbstruck, the woman rushing in to her rescue making quick work of the guard and dispatching him with grace and fury. She'd not seen the person before, but .. woof. It was silent, apart from the gnome's heart. For a moment, the gnome's normal taciturn, professional manner was broken with wide eyes and parted lips. She tightened her grip on her rapier and assumed a defensive stance, snapping herself out of the funk. Despite the cute wink.
"I could ask you the same thing." She twitched a notched brow and sized the other woman up. "You came here expecting trouble. Moreso than me. You're hunting someone. I'm hunting things." She twisted her wrist and shoved her needle-like rapier into her scabbard, hand resting upon the ornate pommel. "The owner of this warehouse, much like a few warehouses around here, is a less than reputable character despite appearances, and I'm here to appropriate whatever's valuable."

Miri grinned, studying the gnome. Her leather armor was as tight as if it had been painted on, but it shifted freely with her body, clearly not restricting her loose and limber movements in the slightest.
“I always expect trouble,” Miri said easily, voice still just above a whisper. Whispers carried, after all. She had been crouched in an easy, relaxed posture, but nonetheless she’d kept a careful eye on Ali’s rapier up until it was sheathed.
“It’s not a person I seek... tonight. Not here anyway,” Miri winked again. “I want papers. You want valuables. I say what’s stolen can’t be stolen twice.”
“So why work at cross-purposes?” Miri asked. “There’s rumored to be a safe somewhere down below. I’ll take the papers - you take the rest.” She raised an eyebrow and extended a graceful, long-fingered hand to the gnome. “Deal?”

Ali squinted, looking at the hand that approached, cutting through the dim moonlight. What's stopping this armed stranger from betraying her? She kept her hand on her pommel, reaching out with her free hand to grasp it. "Sure, but if you think about crossing me behind my back when we get the safe open, it won't end well for either of us. I have very dangerous friends. Littleknight is my name. Stow the body of the man in one of the crates, we can't have his fellow finding him."
She began to search for the stairwell down.

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Miri winked. “Good to meet you, Littleknight. I’m Blackstone.”
Miri rose, easily, and raised an eyebrow at the command to store the body in one of the crates. Smiling a little to herself, as if amused, she tugged the bloody corpse over to one of the empty crates along the warehouse wall, opening the top and heaving the body inside into it.
There was a large ladder that led from the loft down to the warehouse floor, easy enough to find at the end of the loft. Miri ignored it for a moment, looking out over the warehouse.
“Any ideas which way to go?” Miri asked.

The warehouse was small, at least relative to many of the others in the Dock Ward, but it wasn’t empty. Stacks of crates and pallets of goods formed a sort of natural maze down below.
The good (and bad) news for the two rogues was that overall the warehouse was fairly well lit, with enough light that they could get a sense of it. There were still dim patches and plenty of them, and spots between sets of crates or under pallets for hiding.
Unfortunately, from her spot on the loft, Alitranna couldn’t see anything like the safe Miri had mentioned, or even any tiny hint of an indication of how to find their way through the maze to it.

"I've got nothing. Everything's a maze and I need to catch my bearings." Littleknight gave a half shrug. "You take point. Get me to the safe and I can open it."

“You have a high opinion of my skills,” Miri said, with a distinct hint of amusement in her still-low-pitched voice. She was still studying the warehouse floor below, and now she turned and grinned at Littleknight. “And what if I tell you I’m just as lost?”
Littleknight would see, at least, that the inside of the warehouse wasn't unguarded either. Perhaps the man they'd killed was enough proof of that, but moving below - in no discernible patterns - she would catch sight of what she could guess were at least two guards.

Two guards.
"Then we improvise. Like.." She touched her chin, peering over the edge, after what felt like two attempts.
Alitranna pointed, trying to make out one of the figures in the dim light. "There," She whispered. "One on the left, one on the right. We could climb down, but that may incur trouble. So I have an idea. What if we create some form of distraction? Or we find a way to sneak past them. These guys don't look too bright."

“I like the way you think,” Miri grinned, broadly.
“Look,” Miri crouched down at the edge of the platform, next to gnome. She gestured out over the room. She pointed, first, to the front door. “The guards’ paths overlap there,” she sketched an invisible path in the air, then another. “And nowhere else – except – ” Miri pointed to a spot on the far lefthand side of the room.
“Why have both guards overlap that spot?” Miri raised her eyebrows, leaning back slightly on her haunches. “Unless there’s something there you don’t want anyone to get to.” Miri flashed her teeth in a grin.
“So – a distraction. Somewhere over there,” Miri gestured right. “Then we break for – there,” she pointed left, to the spot where the guards overlapped. “How’s that sound?”

"I like it. What's the distraction? Maybe-" She looked around, hoping to find anything worth throwing, or anything that could be helpful.

There were quite a few crates against the walls - one of which contained a dead body. Unfortunately, while Ali could check the crates if she wanted, she didn't see anything sitting out that she could throw.

"Let's search the crates. There must be something in here." She shook her head, motioning the other woman to follow. Carefully walking on the balls of her heels and distributing her weight to sneak across the floor, she attempted to search the nearest crate, gingerly opening the lid and peering inside. That is, the crate that lacked a body.
