Kara's question was nothing if not fair and justified, he would be curious, or rather, worried himself about the experience or lack of thereof should a companion grab a crossbow as well. He remained as honest as he had been thus far with his reply, as he watched her grab the keys and rob the now corpse of the guard woman. " As well as anyone. I haven't shot one of these in centuries, but it shouldn't prove difficulty. And, at the very least, it won't be as unreliable. Only twenty bolts however, though I doubt any fight we manage to run into will see them depleted before it's over." Among the bundle of keys the barbarian had in her hands, she'd soon learn that among them there was one that opened each and one of the cells and also the room they were into. On the other end of the door a large hallway welcomed them, with one regular sized door to their right and a double wooden door to their left. It was a dry thing of a hallway with moisture stains on the walls, and the only other exit in sight was just at the end of the hallway, turning left. Silence was the predominant setting of these parts, though the faint sound of footsteps could be heard somewhere near the end of the hallway. Kel'antar looked over at Kara, and then at the now opened door. " How do you want to do this?" He asked, he was all in for trying to stealth their way through as it would provide them with sufficient advantage should they perform acceptably, and if they didn't, it was not though as if they had lost anything. The element of surprise would no doubt be lost the very first moment they contacted with another of the guards. He made sure the heavy crossbow was properly loaded then and started to check the individual mechanisms that comprised the contraption. He even ran his finger through the tip of the bolt he ended up placing inside of the loading canal, to make sure it was sharp and was not faulty by chance. Not that there was any chance of it not doing damage, crossbows could certainly pack a punch even if the bolts were not properly sharpened. He simply preferred to avoid further blunders due to mishaps and miscalculations. That time things had ended alright because Kara had proven to be a rather remarkable fighter, however if he had been alone the story could have gone very differently for him.

Kara nodded. As long as the elf had shot a crossbow before, she wouldn’t worry too much that he would accidentally hit her with one of the bolts. “What else can you use?” She asked. A crossbow would be good – would keep him out of the fight – but it would be good to know what other weapons to keep an eye out for.
If she had to steal something else, a sword would be better than a mace – a halberd even better. She didn’t think any glaives other than her own would be lying about. That was the weapon she itched most to have in her hands; part of her was coldly furious at the thought of Ajisha and her henchmen even touching the weapon.
No matter. She would have it back soon enough. Kara refused to consider any other alternative. Almost everything she owned could burn and she wouldn’t weep over it – but the glaive, the stone shields insignia even now over her breast, and the bear claw hanging from her neck she would go to the depths of the Underdark for.
Kara opened the door, slowly, looking down the hallway. Two doors, and what looked like a turn at the end. “Slowly,” Kara said, quietly. She stepped through the door, walking slowly and carefully to the double doors on their left.

Stealth!vhy7vlcD1d20+2" Anything an unexperienced soldier would" Said without any shame, it felt as though it had been years since he last had a weapon in his hands, and it made him wonder in fact if he ever had. What need was there for crude weapons of steel when he could conjure magic to do the job for him? A fair question, but if he remembered how did such weapons felt in his hand... Or if he had any familiarity with them, it would mean that it not always had been such. Right? Such thoughts danced through his head as they began to move towards the leftmost door. Both Kara and Kel'antar moved with surprising ease and stealth, which surprised him, considering his previous encounter he was all but willing to believe it would be easy now. Thus, he was prepared for whatever was behind the door. The door was open, perhaps because no one was really expecting the prisoners to escape from the cell and locking so many doors would only get in the way of the guards, which were the ones that wandered to and fro with most frequency. They began to advance without any problem, until something disturbed the silence they had been carrying with them, it was two people talking. "So what did you do?" "What was I supposed to do, just say no?" "Well I would've had, if I were you" "Bullshit, I know you" Both a female and a male voice were discussing about something, and by the way their voices sounded they were just around the corner. The elf looked at Kara and pointed with his head, silently leveling his crossbow and readying the shot. The place itself seemed to be like an antechamber of sorts, not unlike what the rear end of the holding cells had looked like. However the distinct lack of bloodstains and unbereable bad smell in the area pointed towards it being either a place dedicated to storage or similar quarters, which would also explain why there were people around watching it. It must've of had something worth watching over. The floor was cracked near the main division, and it would be easy trip on the mis-leveled surface if one was not paying attention. 1d20+2

Kara closed the door behind them after she and the elf had slipped through it. Any noise they made in the room, she hoped, would not carry into the corridor beyond. She slipped along the corridor, listening intently, and stopped at the sound of voices from down the hallway. She glanced at the elf, relieved to find he had stopped as well. An unexperienced soldier. It was an interesting – and non-specific – way of describing himself, but helpful enough. For now, he would need to hang back; Kara didn’t think it was a bad idea for him to have a mace on hand, in case. The elf lifted his crossbow, and Kara nodded. Guards might well mean something valuable inside. At worst, a fight with two of them alone would mean fewer to take on later. Two voices – hard to be sure whether it was only two. Without her glaive… but no matter. Kara slid as far along the corridor as she could get to the corner without being in the line of sight of someone on the other side, and held there. If the guards heard them, the corridor wouldn't be a bad place to fight. Kara wished she could tell the elf to get back towards the door after he fired; she did her best to gesture it, with quick sharp motions, mimicking a firing crossbow with her hand, then pointing back towards the hall behind them. She would try to lead the guards into the space closer to the door, if she could; it would be best to trap them in the narrow corridor, rather than letting them maneuver in the hallway.
Kara inhaled and exhaled, deeply and silently, readying herself for battle. She focused on the battle ahead; the rest of the world, and even the elf behind her, faded into nothing. There were only the two enemies to fight, and nothing beyond.
Kara released her coiled energy like a spring, bounding around the corner and swinging the mace with all of her strength, bringing it twice into the closest enemy, one, two brutal strikes.

The action quickly unfolded, Kara's movements as if practiced many times though she was not wielding her favorite weapon quickly managed to have her land a blow on her opponent swiftly and decisively, which happened to be a rather tall woman whose skin was black as tar. She had a cup of something in her hands, and only managed to turn around before being hit square in the face with the mace. At the same time, Kel'antar unloaded one of the bolts in her general direction.

After Kara's hit her face spun around alongside it's body and a teeth flew out of her mouth as she flew to the side sprawling on the floor, catched completely of guard. The bolt went straight past her, brushing against her shoulder and hit against a wall as she fell. The second man not so much after seeing what was happening. He was taller than her, his skin of a similar shade, his body considerably larger and also broader. The woman was armed with a mace, but the man possessed a problematic looking greataxe that had been just lying on the table up until that moment.
Kel'antar quickly reloaded and took another shot, this time at the only man left standing.

And the man tossed his entire heavy body to the side just at the right time leaving the bolt to hit against the wall behind him, letting out a roar of pure anger before heading towards Kara wielding that gigantic weapon of his. Meanwhile across the floor the wounded woman groaned, still not quite dead and was beginning to move on the floor, probably to stand up in the next few seconds.

Kara switched her attention to the man. She had no problems fighting a woman, but she wanted that greataxe.
Kara swung the mace at him once, then whirled and swung it again, still focusing all of her considerable strength into each strike against the man. If she was overreaching, then let her reach. The woman hadn’t fallen far; if she tried to move past Kara towards the elf, Kara thought she would still have a shot at shopping her with the mace.

The woman got up with a groan of pain and half of her face bloodied and instantly armed herself with the mace before turning to face Kara, that had been the one to struck her down in the first place, now fighting against his companion as well.

And immediately afterwards noticed that there was also an elf in the room leveling a crossbow at her. Perhaps if he'd had hit anything moments before he would have been more noticeable as a threat, as opposed to the woman literally mauling them both in the face at the moment. Kel'antar on the other hand decided he'd about just had enough of missing any and all attacks he had attempted at any guards, he was tired of pretending to be a fighter. Magic was what called to him and thus he would use it, and no more of those small effects that seemed to be so easily resisted by the previous guard woman. The fighting seemed fierce enough to warrant being taken seriously. He aimed at the woman in front of him, the one that had just taken notice of him and up to this moment had been attacking Kara mostly from the side and summoned his magic against her.

A searing ray of light passed just besides Kara and swallowed the woman besides her whole, heat pouring from the light as a seething sound escaped alongside a scream, a strong wind moving alonside the light. When it finished passing through the woman most of her body seemed badly burned, she was bleeding and a faint light was stuck to her body, making her movements sluggish and easy to track. For a moment she almost seemed to stumble back, like she was on her last legs but she managed to persevere.
The man had his hands full with Kara but was enraged to see what had just happened to it's companion and wielded his greataxe with killing intent towards her.

Kara barely felt the blows with the mace; but she was aware of it, like a gnat flickering at her side. A searing light shot from behind her to almost consume the woman, lighting her up. Some part of Kara that was aware noted coolly that she had been right not to underestimate the elf. Later there would be time to ask him more. Kara pulled her attention back to the greataxe. She had overcommitted on her last attacks, and she couldn't avoid his furious retaliation. The axe smashed into her, powerfully, ripping a bright red line down her torso. Kara didn’t stumble; a blow that might well have killed a normal woman seemed to almost bounce off of her. She was bleeding, but she didn’t seem to notice it much more than she had the blows from the mace moments before. The woman was an easy target; the man was the greater threat, but Kara knew there was a chance the woman would slip past her and go after the elf. Better, too, that they both focus their attention on the same target.
Kara whirled and spun, hitting the woman with a powerful blow from her mace, the lingering light from the elf's spell making her easy to target. She dropped and Kara turned back to the man, striking a more cautious blow this time.

With the hit from Kara the woman's bones seemed to be made of brittle wood, the way they seemed to crack and split, prompting her to fall down once again, this time, dead. The only ones remaining now was the man and them. Kel'antar was oddly pleased that she had chosen to down the woman before focusing on the man, to him, while it was clear that the man seemed to be currently the biggest threat after she had been downed the first time by her, to him, it was a matter of being able to both outmanouver and outnumber their opponents. Now, having a numerical advantage things would fare better for them. Or so he'd hope. He moved to the side and reloading the crossbow took another shot at him.

The man landed another wild blow; Kara didn’t even grunt as it laid into her, the enormous axe slashing into her side. She was bleeding sluggishly from his previous wound too, and now this one as well.
But the pain didn’t register. There was only icy cold focus, and a new awareness that he had overcommitted with his strike, and left himself open. Kara brought the mace into him again and again, taking full advatange.

Kara's blows as fierce as the man was dealing them managed to make a dent not only into his armor but also into his body as a ragged moan of pain escaped him, he bended forward, hunching as the last blow seemed to strike something not meant to be struck within him. He looked at her with rage inside, Kel'antar leveled the crossbow again took a deep breath and took the shot.

The crossbow bolt missed, whistling past him. The man shoved feebly at Kara; she shifted, ever so slightly and kept her balance easily enough.
He began to yell, taking off for the door; Kara held, waiting - waiting - and struck, slamming the mace across his jaw. The blow dropped him, and he stayed down.
Kara reached down and took the great axe from his hand, setting the mace on the table. She held it as if it were as light as the mace, using the man’s clothing to wipe her blood off its edge.
“Watch the door,” she told the elf. She didn’t think anyone could have heard the man through the closed door - but best to be cautious for a few moments. Kara knelt, searching both dead guards.

He didn't have to hear it twice, swiftly he reloaded the heavy crossbow and turned only slightly towards her to see how she was doing. He was surprised, though pleasantly so, that she hadn't went down from the amount of blows and cuts she had just received. It would have been enough to fell either of her enemies so far, and after witnessing it he was both cautious and worried about her. If anyone had heard the man's screams in his last few seconds of life, there weren't yet any signs of it, though it would be strange that they should announce their coming beforehand.
Other than their weapons, their armor, and a handful of coins neither of them seemed to have anything worth noting. Except for the woman, and the keys that were hanging from her belt. Three of them, this time.
"Are you alright?"
Asked the Elf then, calmly but concerned about her overall wellbeing. There was blood coming out of her after all, and beneath her the blood was already pooling up from the bodies making it increasingly hard to search for them as soon everything was tinted red and a metallic smell began to fill the ambient.

Kara took the three keys, climbing back to her feet, and gave up the search for now. The cold effortless focus on the battle was receding, leaving behind it two sharp aching wounds across her chest and a horrible dryness in her mouth. Her tunic was ripped open in two places, and blood was flowing rapidly down her front.
“I can fight,” Kara said, simply. She set the great axe down, and pulled the tunic off over her head. The shirt beneath came off next, revealing a breastband, luckily unharmed, and the two wounds to her chest. Kara ripped the shirt apart, and wrapped made two pads out of it, pressing them to the worst of the wounds and binding them in place with some of the wrappings from her arms, pulling them so tight that she let out a soft grunt with each one.
Only then did Kara pull the tunic back on. She picked up the great axe, tucked the mace under her arm, and took the keys, stepping away from the bodies.
“Take this,” she handed the mace and keys to the elf, and lifted the crossbow from him. “Search the room,” she told him. The greataxe she set down against the wall, and she lifted the crossbow, levering it at the door and waiting. Her head was pounding; Kara thought it best if she stayed still a few moments.

Watching the bloody mess quickly pool up beneath her, he replied to her first words. " I did not ask if you could fight, I know that you can" He said kindly, for that much she had proven already, and no further demonstration was needed. There was little to gain from her refusing to acknowledge her wounds, if it would only get her killed later on. Kel'antar sought his inner counsel on the matter. He couldn't be sure that there would be other opportunities like the one they were currently enjoying to take a break later on, and perhaps, they would be overwhelmed and forced to flee. Finally, he shook his face when faced with the mace. " I'd much rather use the magic at my disposal, if forced to. If I am to have a weapon, I'd rather it be a dagger, or a crossbow. Something swift and accurate. A mace, while a weapon anyone could wield... Is only as effective as the arm wielding it. And I am not as physically strong as i'd like to be." The elf used the physical proximity they now shared as she took the crossbow to inspect her wounds more closely, they, however mended, could only do so much to stop the bleeding. Kel'antar slowly reached over with one hand, it wasn't a sudden gesture, she didn't want her to feel threatened. And sought to touch her exposed skin, briefly. Cure Wounds (Level 1)IoR_O3lY1d8+3And, just like that he was out of spells for the day, except for a few he could summon in a time of need. But he would keep those cards close to his chest, for a moment where they were really needed. Once again, those warm energies would enter her body and begin to close her wounds, however, it would not be enough to fully heal her. He decided he would much rather have her in top shape in case hey ran into something hard to handle. With that done, he picked up the keys and headed towards the first door he came across, taking care not to step on the crack in the floor. The first door was locked, and with the proper key it opened into what seemed to be a bedroom. A small room, two empty beds. Probably, because the occupants were dead by then. He left the door open and moved northwards into the closest room from where they had been and opened that one as well. This one however, seemed to be a deposit of some kind. A bunch of things were laying around, including barrels, food, tools, and clothes as well as some pieces of armor identical to one another. Leather armor all, and other weapons such as a longsword and a pair of hand axes on top of a box. Kel'antar came out of the room and made a gesture towards the room he had been just in. " A bunch of stuff in there, like a storage room." 1d8+3
