Kara wasn't the only one full of unease. Solstice, glancing around (and up), frowned and squinted around as though expecting trouble. After being surprised by a seeming piece of the ceiling, she was on high alert for the same thing happening again. She tried not to pace too much, though, worried that she would step over and mar any cat footprints. That might have ended up helping more than she realized, in a place where the ground wasn't all as smooth as the tunnel.
It didn't take very long for Kara to spot a faint set of cat tracks along the right side of the cavern, perhaps a little fresher than the footprint of earlier but not that much more. Without a powerful light source and Kara's training, it might have been overlooked. The tracks ended -or were erased just before three tunnels to the east, but considering the massive amount of tunnels all over the cavern area, that narrowed it down considerably.

“Here,” Kara looked up at Solstice, then back to the ground. She felt a faint pulse of relief somewhere in her chest; the cat had come this way. It hadn't been devoured by the thing that had dropped onto Solstice, or any of the other myriad dangers in the cavern. At least, at some point, it had made it this far.
First, Kara turned back and marked the exit out of the cavern: once in the main cavern, and once inside the tunnel, two cross-hatches to tell them how to get back.
Next, carefully, Kara walked slowly and lightly along the wall, keeping to the outside of the tracks. With Solstice keeping pace with the lantern, she could follow the tracks as long as they went.
Kara crouched at the end of the tracks, feeling them gently with her fingers. It was hard to tell with the ground; she thought they were fresher than the ones she’d seen earlier. She looked up at the three tunnels, then back to Solstice, rising and brushing the dirt off her fingers with her thumb.
"No way of knowing," Kara said, finally, exhaling. Without much more hesitation, Kara started to enter the first tunnel, glancing around cautiously. It seemed best to take them in some kind of order, and first to last was as good as she could think of.

Solstice perked up, relief on her face as she noted the tracks. At least they were on the right path, wherever that took them. She could work with that, and nodded as Kara marked the passages. "Good thinking. It'd get all to easy too get turned around down here, I think." The firbolg didn't consider her own sense of direction to be rock-solid, at least underground. Better to have some reminders, just in case.
Since one tunnel seemed just as likely as the next and the one beyond that, Solstice didn't see any reason to protest Kara choosing one of them above the others. If that one didn't lead to the cat, then they would pick another and so on. She followed alongside Kara, listening to the general sounds of the cavern, especially for anything that might come from the direction in which they were heading. So far, it seemed much akin to the first tunnel they found, rounded and smooth. But if all that tunneling had revealed that one subterranean passage, Solstice suspected that there might be more of the same. A few more minutes passed in silence, but she knew that wouldn't last forever. Cat or not, they were bound to find something.

Kara walked slowly and steadily, scanning the walls, floor and ceiling. It was dark; the light of Solstice’s lantern only did so much in such a large tunnel. But if she was caught off-guard again, it wouldn’t be for lack of effort. That Kara could – and did – promise herself

As the tunnel curves, Kara can definitely hear life ahead. What form that life takes has yet to be seen given the limited light and twists and turns of the tunnel path, but given time to listen, she can tell it's on the move...and heading toward them. Solstice, distracted with also ensuring that they aren't caught off-guard from behind, doesn't quite catch the sound just yet.

Kara thrust her hand out, silently gripping Solstice’s arm, hoping the other adventurer would be able to feel the grasp through her armor. If she didn’t respond Kara would give a gentle tug on her arm.
Once she had Solstice’s attention, Kara would press one finger to her lips, then speak in the quietest voice she could manage: “Something coming.”
Kara turned her attention back to the path before then, taking a few steps to put herself between Solstice and whatever lay ahead almost without thinking about it. She gripped the glaive in a ready position, waiting for whatever was to come.

Solstice turned, about to ask about the sudden gripping, when Kara made the signal to be quiet. Hearing the news, she nodded and set down her lantern to the side before drawing her sword from its sheath. At least this time, she had some warning as to trouble and that was a boon of some sort. Settling into a defensive stance, the firbolg kept her shield ready and sword gripped tight.
As for what approached, that was a question soon answered. The earth trembles and ruptures but a few feet in front of them, as two purple worms surface. They instantly start barreling in the direction of the two adventurers, their spikes grinding against the earth as they rhythmically compress and expand their body. The tunnel's size compared to their own would suggest that this is not the grown version of the creature, and yet their gaping maws and aggressive lunging indicate that they aren't any less hostile for their age and size.

At the sight of the two wormlike creatures scrunching towards then, Kara gripped her glaive even more tightly. Both creatures seemed to speed up as their approached, jaws opening wide, and Kara had no doubt they would devour her and Solstice alike, if they could.
The creatures were a little more than ten feet away, just outside of Kara’s range. Kara took a few steps forward to close the distance necessary to strike, quickly building momentum. While the size of the tunnel boded poorly for what a full grown worm looked like, Kara was at least grateful that she had room to move.
She focused her attention on one worm, targeting all three of her attacks on it from about ten feet away. Regardless of whether they hit or not, Kara would retreat back a pace or two, just enough that to come at her would force them to enter her blade’s range.

The purple worm Kara strikes repeatedly lets out a grinding screech, raising clouds of dirt as it thrashes. Blood oozes out onto the ground, but there's life in it yet and it closes in to retaliate at the human woman with the glaive, snapping its maw at any part of her it can reach. It also curls in and lashes out with the stinger at its tail.

The second, so far unhurt, purple worm lunges for the firbolg paladin, attacking in much the same manner if Kara's not able to stop it.

Solstice stood ready as Kara swiftly moved to attack the worm lunging for her, just in case. As it turned out, the glaive attack missed in that instance and the worm relentlessly surged ahead. The paladin, confronted with the loud screech of the creature as it fails to break past her armor with its teeth, and her shield blocks the stinger, doesn't waste time in lashing out. As with Kara, she has no problem giving as good as she gets.

Kara had hit, but the creature was still moving. She whirled as they approached, thrusting a blow at the worm heading for Solstice, but missed wildly as the creature moved.
Kara turned back to the worm targeting her, ready to guard, but found herself nearly effortlessly able to move out of the thing’s way. She lunged in at it again, aiming three more quick and brutal strikes at the worm.

The purple worm directly in front of Kara is bleeding profusely now, but it's still active and ferocious. Once again, it tries to chomp down on her before stinging her with its tail.
