((Yes, I am not ashamed to be pretty much re-using the same quest starter with just slight edits. All daily/reoccurring quests start the same, have you not played a MMO? XD))Susie was bored. Dressed in her own self designed uniform of a purple knee-length dress with a little frill underneath to help poof it out, slightly heeled boots, and a tall witch's hat pushed back on her head so the brown of her bangs are on prominent display. It wasn't wrinkled, surprisingly, but that was most likely due to the fact there was magic keeping her outfit clean and pressed than to her own motivation to keep her belongings nice. It was a spring afternoon, a usual day with its usual weather, and Susie had "helped" only one customer, and a repeat one at that. Groaning in teenage moodiness she tilted her head to rest in her folded arms and looked towards her sign. A purple mage hand flicked the board where her desired items were engraved with her illusionary script and her arcane mark. It creaked, making a loud sound before quieting as it swung back and worth to stillness. Then she did it again. And a third time, sending the sign to rock back and forth with the sole purpose to make the semi grating sound of metal screeching on metal. The most unique thing about it? It would read in whatever language the person reading it would be most comfortable reading. Was it time to die yet? Questing intro post is up Kestrel ! Pay no heed to the scene location, you're, like, totally gonna be fine.

It was a really nice day.
Echo skipped down one of Waterdeep’s streets, jumping from cobblestone to cobblestone, with her hood thrown back so that the mild spring sun could warm her fur. All the while the tabaxi hummed a little upbeat tune to herself and peeked around. On either side were rows of colorful stalls, shady hawkers peddling their wares, and the dull shine of storefront windows. Were it two or three years ago Echo would no doubt have been scouting out the next business for her and Wisp to hit, but here and now? She was simply window shopping and taking a day for herself. No performances. No adventuring. No worries. Just her curiosity, a pouch of coins, and fair weather.
And it was kinda nice!
Not that the treasure hunter had stumbled across anything toooo interesting so far, but that was soon to change. Moving just past a store to her left, Echo doubled back, paused mid-skip, and read its sign, her tail twitching a little at the words that had caught her attention. Little Shop of Wonders? Aww, it sounded cute! And nothing was more exciting to Echo than new wonders! Even if they were little. Or was it just the shop that was little? Maybe both? The tabaxi sidled past a man as he left the shop and caught the door with her back as it tried to swing shut. There was only one way to find out!
Slipping in and quietly closing the door behind her, Echo’s tail swished as she looked around. And, like, woah. A lot of what lined the shelves and countertops the tabaxi had not the slightest clue of what they were. Some things were colorful, some things shimmered, and some things were…kind of ordinary looking, but just being in here you knew they were also super cool in some way! Even in the City of Splendors, a place known for its exotic richness, Echo still found it in her to get excited about the smallest of things. Though, her excitement was tempered just a little as the tabaxi winced and flicked her ears.
…what in the Cat Lord’s name was that sound?
The harsh screech of metal against metal filled the little shop, and it did not take long for Echo to find its source. A small metal sign, covered in glowing letters, was being swung back and forth by the push of a floating hand. Nearby, a young girl wearing a pretty purple dress and a funny pointed hat thing leaned on her arms and looked positively, absolutely, incredibly bored. On a day like this! Echo skipped the short distance between the door and the counter and stopped just shy and to the side. Squeak.
Absorbed with the sign, it seemed as if the tabaxi’s presence went completely unnoticed. She smiled a little and tucked her hands behind her back.
Squeak.
Echo coughed, but even she could tell the shrill sound covered it up. Her ears twitched again.
Sque-
Exhaling sharply, the treasure hunter flicked her wrist. An orange mage hand of her own rose up and held out a single finger to stop the sign as it swung forward. Echo leaned to the side.
“Hiya! Not to be mean, but, uh, that’s kinda really annoying!”

The voice of a tabaxi made her pause her mage hand a moment, the purple swirly motes of arcane energy going still in the air as the comment of the squeaky being annoying …
…
… And then she hit the sign one more time -squeak- before sighing and lifting her head up off the counter. "Yeah, lots of people don't like it. I do though sooooo, it keeps me occupied when the store's dead." She dryly and melodramatically commented. And though the hinge sound faded her hand didn't fade away, still poised to, at any moment, hit it again.
"Soooooo did you come here for a health potion too?" She sighed and lazily brought her head up to go from looking at the sign to looking at Echo. "Or do you need a special component for something. Or like…" She finally realized her customer was a tabaxi. "… are you good at fishing?" She bluntly asked, perhaps somewhat rudely considering she assumed fishing due to the race of Echo. But the way in which she asked was one that was actually curious, starting to swing towards hopeful at the end.

Squeak.
Echo huffed as the girl prodded the sign one more time. She said nothing but, instead, leaned forward and planted her hand on the countertop. At the same time, her own mage hand mirrored her movement to float down and firmly grasp the top of the metal sign. The tabaxi purred softly.
Just try and move that heckin thing now!
Still keeping one eye on the spectral hand floating just beyond the sign (really???), Echo glanced around the shop as she listened to the girl passionately give her pitch. Unfazed, the treasure hunter grinned and shrugged.
“Not really! I don’t know what most of the stuff in here even is. This place just looked like it, uh, had cool things in it I guess!”
And it did! Lots of cool things, even some interesting sounds and smells, and one annoying, pointy headed girl!
“And I’m sorta okay at fishing. Fish in the River used to take me when I was little, whenever we passed by a stream or something. It was pretty fun! Though, I haven’t done it in-“
Wait. Wait wait wait. Echo turned toward the girl, leaned down, and pointed a finger at her. Her eyes narrowed. The way she had asked seemed innocent enough but, like, honestly? The girl was kind of a brat so far. “-is this a cat joke?”

Susie snapped her tongue off her front canine tooth when the tabaxi's own mage hand reached up and touched her sign. What was it with people touching her sign? It was -her- sign, she didn't touch their shit! A bit of a bratty frown was on her face as she pushed against the other side of the sign, the two mage hands having their own little battle. The purple mage hand tapped on the top of the sign three times, then made a loose fist and shook up and done once, twice, thrice - then made a tighter fist. Again, a second time it did, then made a flat shape. Again it did it, a final time, making a… pair of scissors? The hand was rock paper scissoring for right to shake the sign.
Without looking at the antics of the mage hand personally, as if she had no idea it was happening, Susie grinned and made a sort of excited clapping motion with her real hands. "Oooooh good. I need fish. No joke, real question. For realzies. I do need fish, like, there - see?" She gestured to the sign and finally noticed the hand battle for supremacy.
"Oh for Hell's sake, cut that out!" She waved her hand and the purple hand faded away, the fizzles and sparks of arcane dusting the counter and sign. "See here?" She physically pointed now to the various fish type on the sign. "I need fish, their bones… really… and scales. And eyeballs. But it's just easier to get the whole fish. I can't leave my… mom's shop." She'd almost said it was 'her' shop, but corrected herself with a dejected flat sorta voice. "And I need to practice crafting if I ever want my own shop. But ingredients are expensive and I already reached my allowance of materials from the shop soooooo, like, I need others to get stuff for me."
She blew air up to wave her bangs away since her hat had slid forward in the excitement. "I'll let you keep the fish meat, plus throw in a cool magic item I think you might like - I'm like, really really good at picking out items for people. It's like, a magical talent all on its own. So bring me fish! The bigger the fish the better the item I'll give you. I can send you to a prime fishing spot, you won't even need to walk far. I promise." Her bored attitude was fully flipped now to excitement and a teenager's glee at actually talking about something they were passionate about.

Echo tried her best to ignore the girl’s mage hand, she really well and truly did, but the poking and prodding and tapping was incessant if not a little amusing, even as her own mage hand tried to shoo its misbehaving counterpart away. The moment it started playing rock-paper-scissors, though? She lost it. Stifling a giggle with the back of her free hand the tabaxi flicked her tail and had her mage hand (…slowly) let go of the sign and form its own fist, only partially listening to the now energetic witch as she prepared to join their growing little game. But then the girl turned, “noticed” the two mage hands (uh huh), and waved hers away with a curse and a shower of purple arcane sparkles. Aww.
A brat, maybe, but kind of fun too!
Following the girl’s finger with a little more interest now, Echo squatted to get eye level with the counter and took her first good look at the sign they had spent the last few minutes fighting over. Pulsating purple script flowed neatly across its surface above a distinct symbol and, as the treasure hunt watched, the words themselves seemed to fluctuate between common and draconic. Pretty and neat! Her mage hand underlined each ingredient listed as Echo read them. Trout. Eel. Q…quipper? And what the heck is a bichir??? She had no idea this many fish even existed! The tabaxi swished her tail and glanced up at the witch. Getting the chance to see some weird new fish was enough to win her over, honestly, but throw in the promise of a shiny new magic item? And add to that the fact Echo had yet to have lunch? Sold.
“That, uh, sounds kind of gross! The eyeballs and stuff I mean. But okay! I’ll get you enough fish guts to make a kuo-toa blush!” Can fish blush? The treasure hunter raised an eye at what the teenager said next, though, and stood back up to lean on the counter again. Her mage hand pointed an orange finger at the girl’s chest and prodded the air as Echo emphasized a few, choice words.
“I’m gonna need you to, like, define ‘I’ and ‘can’ and ‘send’ and ‘you’. Preferably as a whole connected concept.”
Echo was all for fishing and gutting things and doing this girl’s chores and whatever but, uh, that sounded just a little suspicious! In the “should I actually read the fine print on this legal document that the strange funny gang man with the dead crow on his shoulder wants me to sign” kind of way.
Not that she was speaking from experience! At least not recent experience.

"Liiikkkeeeee, let me show you instead."
With that Susie hopped down from her platform behind the counter and walked over to the fireplace, where a stretch of all was completely barren of any shelf, decoration, or obstacle. It was just a blank stone wall. She stretched her arm up to the fireplace mantle and took down a piece of simple white chalk and began to draw.
From the bottom right nearest the floor, a straight line going up 5 feet, over to the left 3, then down five feet to his the floor once more a portal was drawn. Arcane mystic energies and swirls, purple, black, white, red, all condensed into patterns and eye-catching billows of power.
"Soooooo, just step on through!" Susie grinned, chalk still in her hands. "But oh! First, here, take my bag. You can throw the fish in it for easy storage." She turned around to race behind the counter, grab a travel messenger bag, flipped the top open -stuck her hand inside and whispered a few unknown arcane words- then re-flipped the top closed, then open again, look in, smiled -satisfied- and held it out towards Echo.
"As many as you can." She repeated with an excited teenager grin.

Both Echo and her mage hand turned in synch as the (now quite shorter) teenager moved over to the shop’s fireplace. There sat a section of wall, devoid of any of the colorful clutter that filled the rest of the place, that the treasure hunter had failed to notice before, and she watched as the witch pulled a single piece of white chalk down from the nearby mantle. Yup, definitely suspicious! The tabaxi’s eyes followed it as she began to draw. One line here…another line there…oh! A rectangle! Or more of a door-shape, really? Echo hummed. The girl was pretty good at magic, sure, but how she expected three little chalk lines to send her anywh-
The tabaxi gasped.
Multicolored swirls of arcane energy – bright shades of purple, black, white and red and beautiful combinations of all in between – tendrilled out from the chalk outline and coalesced into a maelstrom of pure, pulsating light. A portal of some kind! Eyes wide and mouth a little open, Echo stepped towards it, head pivoting between the witch and the portal and the witch and the portal and…
“That was sooooo cool!”
Echo mirrored the girl’s grin. Forget the magic item, she wanted to learn how to do that! Heck, she already had a piece of chalk in her pack! That was probably all it really took, right? The tabaxi continued to marvel at the show of lights as the teenager rushed past.
“Can you make this thing go, like, anywhere?”
Though, the more Echo mulled over it, the more that was kind of a concerning thought actually? Who was to say this portal would even take her somewhere fishing related? Still suspicious! But, well…she was curious. Really curious at this point. She had gone out that day looking for some interesting and fun things to do and if stumbling across a little magic shop, playing rock-paper-scissors with a snarky (but kind of funny!) witch, witnessing a portal manifest itself on a stone wall, and getting the chance to go fishing with the promise of some sweet magic stuff at the end of it was not that then, like, nothing was!
With a flick of her wrist the tabaxi grabbed the offered bag with her mage hand, snatched it with her own as it flew over, and then dispersed the spectral hand with a snap of her claws. Slinging the bag across her shoulder, Echo skipped up to the very edge of the portal and looked back.
“Got it! But just so you know?”
Echo’s ears flattened and she barred her teeth.
“If this is some weird elaborate trick and I die on the other side of this thing, I’m gonna haunt your butt for, like, ever. Real spooky haunting. Smelly ghost fish guts in your socks kinda haunting.”
The treasure hunter then gave a mock salute, turned, and dove right through the portal.

The catfolk walked through the portal, the swirling colors closing in on itself, and Susie stood there, hands on her hips, egotistically pleased. Then she froze lightly, frowned, and held a finger to her chin as she hreerrrrrmmmmmmeeeddd really hard before realizing the strange feeling she was feeling? It was because she'd forgotten something.
The tabaxi hadn't been told how to get back.
Susie's eyes widened comically, a brief look of terror on her face, before she started to giggle uncontrolably.
Like
Oh
My
Gods
This was hilarious!
Snorting like a kid Susie put the chalk back up on the mantle and returned to her position behind the counter.
Echo, alternatively, would step through the magic portal and end up right in the middle of a lake. Of course, it probably seemed larger than a lake. There was no land as far as the eye could see, but there was no smell of salt. It was freshwater she was in. Looking down? It would be some very deep, very clear water she was above. The bottom couldn't be seen, but some schools of fish did swim within range of the bright warm summer sun shining down.
Her feet would touch down onto a wooden boat, no more than 12 feet long and 4 feet wide. It had ores on either side held in place by a metal pivot point. A life vest was under the bench seating that ran across the width. An impressive array of fishing supplies, bait both alive (worms, small fish, frogs, bugs, etc) and non-living (bread, popcorn, and other foodstuffs) were lining the internal sides of the boat.
The portal disappeared the moment both feet were standing in the shaky boat, the whole thing shaking slightly as the new weight was dispersed. Leaving Echo in the Valley completely alone in the middle of a lake, with no way home.

Echo felt the pull of the portal’s magic followed by the scratch of rough wood against her pads as the tabaxi, hands on her hips and a confident smile on her face, was dropped onto a rickety boat. The portal blinked out of existence behind her. The old vessel tipped and teetered. The smell of slime and sunbaked foodstuffs hit her nose. Everything else though?
Was blue.
It took a moment for Echo to process. Honestly, ever since she had first agreed to the fishing job, something had been prodding away at the back of her mind. Something that seemed really important! Something about fishing. The treasure hunter looked around. There was no land that she could see. Instead, the boat floated within the expanse of an impossibly large lake. It’s mirror-like surface was clear and glittered from the shine of fish scales under the sun but, as she leaned over the edge, Echo could see that with how dang dark the wa-
The w-wa-
The w-w-wa-
Echo blinked. She remembered that important thing about fishing now.
Fish lived in water.
The tabaxi yelped, jolted back, and collapsed into the boat as her foot got caught on the bench. Her back slammed onto wood and the vessel shuttered and she clamped her hands over her eyes as her breathing became sharp and rapid. There was no land. She was in an old, crappy boat. And there was water. Lots of water! Sooooo much water. No visible lake bottom also meant that it was really, really, really, really, really deep. Echo whimpered. There was one thing in this world that she hated, really hated, and she had also picked the one thing that would put her straight in the middle of it. Echo opened her fingers, took one peek, and then quickly closed them again. She had to get out of there. She had to leave. Like right now! Like absolutely, positively, 100% this very second.
“O-okay! You h-h-had your fun! Now take me back!”
No answer. The tabaxi cursed. The brat had never even told her how to get back! Was this a joke? A prank? Because it was not funny! Sure, there was no way the girl would just happen to know how much she hated water but, like, she was magical! She had to know! She had to know right now that she needed to leave! She would open her eyes and be back in the shop. Right…now! Or now! Or…now? Please, now. N-n-now?
Echo spent a long time, eyes closed, head tucked between her knees, and tail wrapped around her legs, sitting in silence and hoping beyond hope that she would wake up from a bad dream. Or that the witch would send another portal if she waited long enough. But, naturally, nothing changed. She was stuck there. The tabaxi took a deep breath. Okay! There had to be a way back. Then she remembered the bag the girl had given her. What if she caught a lot of fish? Maybe that would let her go home?
Wait. Was this, like, some really twisted hostage fishing trip?
Shaking the thought out of her head (but, seriously?), Echo stood up, quivered, and steadied herself with a hand on the edge of the boat. She took another deep breath. There was no way she was going to just lay down and die there, as cool as being a fish gut throwing ghost might actually be. And this was a magic place! Who was to say this water was even real? The treasure hunter opened her eyes. If she just pretended that all this blue stuff was something other than that nasty "W" word, she could still try and catch some fish, get a ticket back home, and earn that sweet magic item, and all that might be just enough to stop her from dumping fish heads all over that girl’s shop. Maybe. A solid possibility.
Echo sat down on the bench and leaned over. She reached for a fishing rod, zipped her hand down as she spotted the lifejacket, grabbed the fishing rod once she had donned what was totally a fashionable accessory and not something that needed to float, and looked at the wide array of bait that lined the inside of the boat. Ew? Worms, bugs, frogs, and small fish squirmed in buckets next to what looked like bread and bits of crackers and popcorn. The tabaxi placed a finger under her chin. What was it that fish ate again? She tried to picture those evenings she spent with Fish in the River, all those years ago. Aha! She also remembered digging in mud to catch a handful of gross, wriggling worms.
That was a start she supposed.
Grabbing one of the worms (ew) and stabbing it onto her hook (ew), the treasure hunter took one final deep breath, pulled back her arms, and cast the line as far as she could throw it, out into the field of blue daffodils that surrounded her park bench. She then began to hum as her fingers fidgeted with the reel. Hope the fish were hungry!
But, like, actually. Please bite.

It's a fishing mini game! Here's how it's gonna work: 1) Roll a d100 roll - this will determine your encounter level 01-10 No Encounter 11-55 Common Encounter 56-75 Uncommon Encounter 76-92 Rare Encounter 93-98 Very Rare Encounter 99-100 Legendary Encounter
2) Depending on the encounter level, there will be other rolls associated, strength or even dex (haven't figured out 100% yet) 3) Each encounter will give you a fish point, 0,1,2,3,4,5. You need 25 points to trigger Susie remembering that Echo has her bag, and opening a portal to the boat again to let her home OR one legendary encounter. A Legendary encounter will be a difficult challenge, but should be fun as well So please roll a d100. If you roll 1-10, feel free to keep editing your post to add another d100 roll until you hit an encounter. Same with 11-55. These common encounters are super easy fish and require no rolls, just roleplay, to bring in. Anything above that I will ask for additional rolls. Hopefully this makes sense!

Rare Encounter! Your line shakes, the worm you used must have lured something good. If you can pull it in? It's gotta be worth something...
First Roll: Strength check to reel in the fish -DC 15
Second Roll: (pending success of first roll) Survival check to successfully transfer fish from hook to boat without it escaping -DC 10
For ease of quickness, and you being able to roll at your mini-game convenience, here's the roll DC thresholds: I have also re-evaluated the points each level is worth, now that I figured out DCs 1 pt - Common - no rolls, you bring in the fish 2 pts -Uncommon - DC 10 survival to transfer from hook to boat 4 pts - Rare - DC 15 strength check, followed by a DC 10 survival 8 pts - Very Rare - DC 17 strength, followed by a DC 10 Con saving throw, followed by a DC 10 survival check Auto complete - Legendary - Roll Initiative!

It took Echo hours to draw in as many fish as she had. Struggling with the bait, getting covered in broken off scales and fish slime from the countless (ie, twelve) failures she had trying to get the fish into the boat - who knew fish were just that darned determine to not stay caught?
There were plenty of unimpressive fish, small ones that would barely have any meat on them. Small ingredient hulls, not worth too much, but at least big enough to be worth -something-. But four of the fish the tabaxi had brought in?
Those were impressive. Particularly the two largest. Lots of meat, beautiful rich colored scales. A heft in them that was something to be proud of.
And as Kestrel sat there, under the sun that was starting to set now, sending a chill that felt most likely pleasant to the sun-fried catfolk, a portal would shimmer open. Black. White. Purple. Red. It was the same sort of portal that she'd walked through. ((For speed I'll push the scene along))
When Kestrel stepped through, bag ladened with fish, Susie would be standing there with a piece of chalk in her hands, arms crossed, and a bemused expression on her face. "You like… left without hearing how to get back, but then I remembered you, like, still have my bag. Sooooo I thought I'd check in on you to see how you're doing. You like, totally smell like you caught a lot of fish. Let me see!"
