Height: 5'5
Weight: 179 pounds

Appearance: Long black hair, yellow cat-like eyes (almost golden), red skin, and an expression of bravado that challenges all who look his way.
History: Iados’ earliest memories were of playing at home with his mother and caretaker Verda, calling for her at the top of his lungs before taking off down the long hallways and comfortable furnishings as fast as he could to evade capture. The game would always end with Iados’s mother catching him with a squeal and a big hug from behind. Lillian would then gaze at him lovingly before some minor scolding. Iados knew he was loved; but he also his mother looked nothing like him. Even amongst the Red Wizards of Thay, Iados’ father cut an imposing figure, and on the nights when Valafar was home, the atmosphere would change the moment his red robes whispered through the doorway. Valafar’s visage gave Iados hesitation; the twisted horns, red skin, lemon-yellow eyes. But what really unsettled Iados, was looking into his father’s eyes and seeing the same features reflected back at him. Iados’ father was never the most conversational fellow. Iados would often watch his parents at dinner whispering in hushed tones, catching slivers of ‘war’, ‘evil’, ‘destruction’; concepts foreign to him, but was always reassured when they looked up and both gave him a warm smile. Iados never understood why he was suddenly handed over to a different family to learn magic.
The elves cast Iados out of their household when he wasn’t able to exhibit any magical skills. To be honest, he didn’t understand it either. Beyond the one instance when he phased between one wall and another while he was so excitedly evading his mother, not an ounce of magical ability had ever come from him. Iados had barely registered that it happened himself. But in the two years he spent training, he saw and learned what true power looked like, wielded by words. His decision had been made even before he reached his childhood home; he would travel the world to seek and attain this power for himself. The confidence he felt was soon replaced with grief and anguish, upon witnessing three red-robed figures conjure a death titan in front of his childhood home. Frozen in fear, he could no nothing but watch as the titan’s axe smashed down onto his home and his family. So he ran.
Iados spent his formative years in Beggar’s Nest, penniless but happy. Alulynn, a thief living in the area, had spotted Iados wandering the streets, doing his best to cover his face. Taking pity on Iados, Alulynn took him in, and a few others lived in a small house, teaching them the skills to survive and prosper in Beggar’s Nest. They relied on pickpocketing to survive, and took on odd jobs to keep them all fed. Iados targeted anyone wearing robes, always watching for a particular shade of colour. But he also stole from the rich; anyone who jingled with coin while they walked and looked like they would recover from a small financial setback. Beggar’s Nest turned out to be good for Iados; he had friends wherever he went. He also learned that when everyone lives in the same situation, kindness can be a virtue.
Personality: Having been cast out for an apparent lack of magical talent at a young age, Iados sets out to prove that he is worthy of a better life. He has seen glimpses of wealth, power, and aristocracy, and the damaging ripple effect that these things can cause.
Though still young, he has learned to be deceitful in the right moments, charming with his demeanour, and genuine with his thanks, owing his survival to another urchin who taught him to live and fend for himself on the streets. His past history has also taught him that true good can be found even in the darkest of places, and that the skills he has learned can help to spread random acts of goodness around.
Some old habits die hard, however. His upbringing can be seen in everything he does, and in truly dangerous situations he would rather kill someone in their sleep than fight fair. Escape is always a feasible option, and Iados is no stranger to being on the run. To this day he unconsciously sleeps with his back to a wall or a tree while wrapped up in his travelling cloak, one hand clasped to his pack which holds all his possessions, and the other hand clasped around the hilt of his dagger, hidden beneath the cloak.
