Dhaunmyr knew exactly where they were headed for the day, after giving a wink and a nod to their favourite city guard, they went out to spend some time in nature, way before the sun rose. This left them energised and prepared for the day. For a moment, they considered searching around for a certain ‘friend’, but decided against bothering, his appearances were too sporadic and high-stakes. They’d prefer to relax a little.
With options thought through, they set their mind to one thing. The back of the bookstore, the one off the side from the market. It had a lovely big sign, in the shape of a book, painted blue but slightly faded. One day they’d offer to paint it, but not this day. Dhaunmyr smiled at the familiar noise of the bell, and leaned over the counter a little too far. In their boots, Dhaun was boosted a healthy five or six inches, tall enough to still make decent eye contact with the lady behind the counter.
She was older, maybe middle aged, Dhaunmyr wasn’t sure, dark elves like themself tended to age by yellowing or greying hair, humans were harder to guess. She seemed a little on-guard at first, but then smiled and exchanged greetings with the funny elf. She didn’t mind being flirted with by such a nice young creature.
After a moment, she shuffled around to the back. There were a lot of boxes, and books, and boxes of books that impeded movement, but she unlocked the door with a key from around her neck, and came right back with a fresher looking box.
“This is all that’s come since you visited last, Mx. Vivacity.” The lady smiled, offering it to them on the counter.
“Oh, I’m sure I’ll take the lot, my dove.” Dhaunmyr began looking through the books, quite enjoying themself. They kept air in their tone, a colourfully dressed dark elf covered in jewels and gold, doing their best not to seem too terribly real. It was much better to seem impossible, magical, not like you would find in a wizard’s wand, but like in these books. Pure fantasy that could never be reflected in anything but an illusion. But you could still touch Dhaunmyr.
At the noise of the bell, and the scraping of the door, they turned back around to look at whoever entered. Dhaunmyr had a reputation for making new friends frequently, or making acquaintances that really had a problem with them.

(my spell list for today is: Alarm, Cure Wounds, Detect Magic, Disguise Self)
Artemis entered in through the doorway of this quaint looking bookstore. He was happy to be out of the hustle and bustle of the streets and finally find a moment to himself.
His eyes looked around noticing the wide array of books spotted around the store on shelves and boxes.
His glances absorbed each genre and colour from every shelf of each book. His facination growing more until his vision was interrupted by something not quite a book. But an elf, a dark elf infact.
Artemis had heard of them before but never met one. He was starkng back at Artemis, "whatever for?" Artemis wondered. He had never met this individual before.
He stepped inside further still to peruse the bookshelves and allow himself a moment to change pace from his journey so far. His hands reaching up for a book nearby, so he can begin to take a closer look.

After taking a few more looks at the various books handed to them from the back, Dhaunmyr smiled and slid a small pouch to the shopkeeper, placing a scarred and uncharacteristically weathered hand on her wrist.
“Don’t count, just put it away, alright?”
They took their backpack and cleared the box of books inside, not much else in there aside from a few pieces of jewellery and a rolled up piece of fabric. They slung it back over their shoulder, for anybody looking, the books were mostly just fluffy, but adult, romance novels, occupying themselves with tall, muscled adventurers and frail townsfolk in passionate relationships, promises to return, chivalry and other such things. One book, however, seemed more intellectual, a thin tome in Undercommon.
They excused themself for a moment, meshing their fingers to crack their knuckles forwards, then realigned the waist of their skirt to lie straight. Coming just up to the stranger’s neck, Dhaunmyr craned their own, trying to catch a glimpse of what he was thinking of reading, so they could possibly have some recommendations ready.
“Greetings, friend. I see you are a rare example of denizens of Waterdeep, one who pleasures himself with reading.” Dhaunmyr’s red-painted lips quirked to a wry smile. “How absolutely wonderful, darling. Now, if you’re at all stuck on what to look for, I’m something of a fast reader, I can probably help you find whatever you’re looking for, as I will have read it myself.”

"Thank you for your offer of assistance though I am not looking for any genre in particular, merely.. I am-" He responds with a very neutral tone, not so much agornatly and neither friendly, somewhat akin to a shopkeeper may sound when asked a question. But then at the end of his scentence his words cut short as his hands grasp a small slender book.
As he lifts it and places it in his hands the spine hidden from view, you see from the front, the title reads "Tales of the Undermountain; how I beat the evil." And in very small words towards the bottom are some trailing text staying "in lieu with Master Gnome crafter Nillium."
He suddenly begins to fan through the pages, one after another. Before he places the book back on the shelf dejectedly.
He looks back to the elf surprised they are still stood there and faces them. His metallic arms reflecting small flecks of candlelight off them as he reaches up to pull his hood back and he holds his hand out "Artemis." He says quite flatly.
"I would be interested to know if you can direct me to tales of adventure and dashing. In particular reference to master Nillium's crafts being used"
Though he seems quite interested to know, his demeanour displays a totally relaxed expression.
His jet black eyes with their golden pupils staring directly at the Elf now. His face now visible from under his hood, strangely has skin on it. A face of skin and hair. How strange for a Warforged, though his arms betray this false pretence revealing his true nature.

“A shame, but I understand the desire to browse. I myself am somewhat guilty of this, but I always fall back on what I know... same when I drag poor Kara dearest to the bakery, standing there and yet, I always get the same thing! Honestly...” Dhaunmyr seemed caught up in their own thoughts, smiling more warmly the moment the name slipped their lips. They’d of course recount the whole day to her, and she’d listen, possibly. They would see, later.
Trailing off, Dhaunmyr thought to themself, quietly, focusing on the spine of a book at eye level, without actually reading the words. When Artemis moved again, they plastered the smile back, taking the offer of a hand enthusiastically. Dhaunmyr held it between the two of their own, shaking far more daintily than the lines of their muscled arms would suggest.
“Vivacity. Dhaunmyr Vivacity. Salesperson, artist, archer.” Breathless and airy, they introduced themself with too much confidence, but it seemed natural for Dhaunmyr, maybe practiced? It was hard to tell whether it slipped off the tongue so easily because they tried or because they didn’t. “...And... no, I shan’t overshare too terribly.”
“Massterrrrr Nilliummmm... now it doesn’t ring much of a bell for me, hold on, I know exactly who’ll know. The lovely young lady over here!” Dhaunmyr gestured towards the middle aged woman behind the counter with a wink, before repeating the name to her. It didn’t seem to cause much recognition in her eyes, but she took out a large book anyway, scanning the pages to read through stock and orders.
“You might find yourself a few tomes, here, let me help y’scan the shelves.” The woman shuffled on out of the area again, looking carefully at her somewhat recklessly stacked shelves. Dhaunmyr offered a hand to get her out a little faster, and together they searched, although Dhaunmyr had no idea what exactly to look for.
Somewhat triumphantly, the dark elf turned around with a further three books.
“If none here take your fancy, I know other places. I’ve got nothing much to do, and it’d be nice to see some old merchant friends. We all talk, you know.”

Artemis took the books from Dhaunmyr and browsed the titles what they are.
"I think I'd like that. It may be helpful to meet the merchants of Waterdeep. I may even find a pastime to keep myself busy whilst I'm at it." He rambled to himself more than to Dhaunmyr. Focusing back on them he replied "So what do you prioritise in especially? Artistry? Sales or Archery?"
Whilst talking to Dhaunmyr, Artemis turns his attention briefly to the shopkeep.
He shuffled his satchel around to his front to open the flap. Surprisingly, it seemed empty and void of any contents as it sat loosely on his hips. He then asked the shopkeep "ma'am, how much do I owe you for these books here?"

“Ohhh I can set you up with so many little hobbies, don’t get me started. I have many, many contacts with artisans.” Dhaunmyr chuckled, quietly recounting lists of names in their head. Hand in their jacket pocket, they considered the question, looking intently at the rings on their other hand.
“I suppose the priority depends on the situation. If I need money, I’m a fantastical, far travelled jewellery merchant. If I need to relax or speak with proper intellectuals, an artist with knowledge of a thousand stars, each lit by magic in a cave roof. And if somebody chooses to get on the wrong side of me, I will show them my training as an archer.”
The woman smiles, glancing briefly at the pile. “I believe your new acquaintance over there already covered the next few transactions.” She glances past Artemis, winking at Dhaunmyr.

"Thank you Dhaunmyr, I appreciate the gift" He said sliding the books into his satchel. And as he closes the flap over the bag, it deflates looking memory again.
"I would enjoy getting to see if there are any tasks I can assist in that could help anybody around town? My master taught me to go and always sign up for the guild hall but I have found on my travels that helping out local businesses is beneficial as well" He looks a little more relaxed in the freeflow of conversation. "And now that you mention it, I am not a bad hand at jewelry crafting myself. If you ever need the help" He added looking at the rings on their hand.
"I am ready to depart if you are" he finally says, making eye contact once more. His golden eyes staring deeply, the golden swirl of his pupils washing over inside his eyes like an ocean wave.

“It’s nothing, honestly, I shouldn’t worry about it.” The mention of it seemed to bore Dhaunmyr, who was finding their way to the door. “Sometimes I just feel it’s important to make up for things, even if it were a completely different circumstance.”
They started opening up the door, and paused for a moment in thought. They pulled back on their persona, laughing airily. “Everybody in Waterdeep wants help. If you’re looking to find someone to help simply walk out this door, close your eyes, and ask the first person you bump into. No, no, I know. You’re one of those people. I respect it. Me? I only do things when I have to, and I find it a much less dangerous existence. But I’m sure we’ll find some blacksmith who wants ancient basilisk powder from a Dwarven zombie crypt, oh absolutely.”
Dhaunmyr caught his gaze, twisting their hand to watch the gemstones catch the light. “You know, it’s not really my thing, but I’m certainly always interested in different styles and suppliers. The more people you can please, the more you can sell to.”
“Alright then, my dear, let’s find some more friends.”
Dhaunmyr exited the building, holding the door for Artemis. They seemed reluctant to quite meet his eyes, looking just above, like it was too intimate. Only reserved for a few.
Leading Artemis through the streets, a little busier as the day dragged on, they tossed a hello to many people walking either way, including merchants behind market stalls, who they seemed most acquainted with. Right at the edge of the market, Dhaunmyr stopped, propping themself against the table. “How wonderful to see you, Berri!” they chimed to the eladrin man behind the table, who looked up in surprise and slight embarrassment as he greeted Dhaunmyr in turn. His table, along with a cart tucked behind against the wall, was covered with books of interesting names and bindings, nothing seemed too mundane, everything just a little obscure.
“Now, I have two favours to ask you, this is my dear friend Artemis, and I’m sure I don’t need to speak for him.” They gestured for Artemis to lead the conversation with the merchant, who was still slightly cautious of Dhaunmyr in a friendly way.

Artemis not quite articulate in reading the nuances and subtleties of creatures, neglected to notice the lack of direct eye contact and any meaning behind and simply stated forward. "Let us depart" he added curtly but gently as he exited the establishment following Dhaunmyr.
As they progressed through the streets, the smells, sights and sounds washed over Artemis. It had been some time since he had so freely walked through a city without a worry with his hood down. He absorbed it all in. Every morsel of this bustling environment. He saw races of different kinds haggling away and stores brimmed with vibrant colours that piqued his interest but he followed Dhaunmyr. Assure of being led to something productive for himself.
As he stood there Infront of the Eladrin. He again failed to notice the on edge appearance of Berri. "Hi, I am Artemis. I was told I am of great help for those seeking it. Is there anything in particular you need help with? I'm looking for some work to get my feet wet in Waterdeep with" This all rolled off the tongue for Artemis with a flow that seemed practiced.

Dhaunmyr seemed a little distracted, eyeing up various fashions as the more interestingly dressed denizens walked down the street, as well as anybody who could, for instance, be considered at least above average in some way or another. It could be looks, it often was, but they also took a good look at anybody who was muscled, anybody who was in the extremes of height or weight for their species, anybody who was very pale, very bright or very dark. Most people probably people watched like that, but Dhaunmyr, for all their air of experience, was still learning, interested specifically in training their artist’s eye.
They were squinting, just slightly, struggling a little in the direct sunlight. Dhaunmyr hated to complain in such wonderful company, but tapped the eladrin on the shoulder, passing by him with their other hand on his waist to find more shade, against the wall with the cart. Berri was just about to complain, but shut his mouth and ignored it, unfortunately used to Dhaunmyr’s antics.
“Nice to meet you, Artemis. My name’s Nuberrimah. I see, I see... well...” He felt around under the table, coming back up with a scrapbook full of notes written on torn off bits of other books, receipts and old contracts, weathered, yellowed, and extremely out of date. Berri smiled, flicking through until he came across a page that hadn’t been completely scribbled over. “I did hear a rumour that down in some cave just off the coast is an abandoned wizardy lab. That means that there’s definitely a notebook or something down there, some kinds of textbooks, and maybe even the spell book of the wizard. I can give you this-“
With that, Berri tore out the page with the full details, different bits of paper plastered down where necessary, including a crude map.
“-If you’re interested, you can add this to whatever you’re planning on doing. I’d wanna read these of course, but maybe the profits could get me a proper shop.” He looked back at the cart, chuckling slightly and shaking his head. “No rush though, there’s no rush.”

Artemis looked over the small scrap of paper with doodles and scribbles all over it.
"So just to clarify, I am to go fetch the research of a wizard's abandoned lab? Is there any expected dangers at the sight and how am I to be rewarded?" He asked in a nonchalant manner pocketing the paper into his satchel and addressing Berri. He stood tall and the wind blew, tossing his hair across his face but he stood still. Not moving to clear his air and just awaiting a reply from Berri. It was strange, it seemed like he was repeating something he had been told to ask as there was no charm or persuasion in his voice. No head tilt, or wry smile. No haggling or jovial banter. Just a pure question requesting information. It could seem quite cold if not the for the gentle expression on the warforged's face and his innocent eyes as he asked the question.

Berri seemed relieved that somebody was interested in this task, and he nodded along until it was time to speak again.
“Yes, yes, okay, I imagine you might have some struggles getting in, perhaps traps, or bandit-types along the way, but I will of course reward you! If you find anything else in there of value, please take it for yourself, but I will personally pay, say... fifty gold pieces for your troubles, and an approximate cut of whatever books you can find. I reckon you could look at seventy, maybe a hundred, all in. Plus anything you find.”
He seemed friendly enough, rather genuine, but was also a merchant. It was hard to tell exactly how genuine Berri was being, but, maybe it didn’t matter. He was trying to decide whether Artemis was looking for a large paycheck or not, and if it was enough.

Artemis heard out Berri listening to the rewards on the table.
"Certainly" was all he had to say. There was no haggle to be made. No sizing up of the offer at hand and if there was any foul play. Just a certainty of the information provided. "I'll be heading out in the morn after my preparations". He turned to Dhaunmyr "well I thank you for your introduction to this. It turns out I do have some use today to someone thanks to you."
