No matter how many times you heard a big ol' beastie eating, it never got better. The sounds were loud, but not unfamiliar. To her at least. It seemed Quih wasn't too keen. If they weren't trying to keep as quiet as they were, she'd have cracked a joke about breaking bones. She chuckled to herself instead. "Alright, ye stay 'ere, Aye'll come back when Aye'm done." She whispered a mental message, copper twirling in her fingers, so as to not make noise. Creeping up to the cave, ensuring her mage armor continued to flicker around her like a heat wave, the firebird gauged how to best approach. Something that big and meaty? Fire wouldn't touch its heart even if it flash-fried sue was pretty certain. Otherwise she could always coax some healing magic into the muscle and repair the damage. Cracking her fingers, her neck, and flaring her wings briefly Citrine stood at the mouth of the cave, pointed a finger into the creature's home, and unabashedly, unashamedly, fireballed the shit outta it. Wild magic condensed and warped around her, the chaotic magic of her style of spellcasting infusing into her spell and morphing it to a power that would make wizards jealous. 2 MM points to quicken fireball into a bonus action (action to bonus action) U1KSeL8u8d61 MM to empower fireball (reroll up to 3 dice of damage) Action to cast Toll the Dead 2d12Bend Luck might be used, pending its dex or wis saving throwIn the light of the fire she could spot the beast, sending war drums and the firebird's screaming krees of vengeance and destruction echoing through the cave giving a harsher affect to its injuries. Manticore needs: A dex saving throw against the Fireball DC 14, for half damage A wis saving throw against Toll the Dead DC 14, for no damage To die

Citrine would find it's way towards the cave entrance and before even managing to see the Manticore in the dark the first thing she would feel was the hideous stench of death and decay coming from within, hearing the buzzing if flies feasting on rotten flesh and putrid blood around the corners. The growling of the beast followed, except that it wasn't a growl but a snore. Not like it mattered; when the sorcerer cast it's magic the entire cave light up with magic fire and a thunderous roar that shook the entire thing. The creature almost imploded from the impact and it's body caught on fire, Citrine herself was showered with bits and pieces of different bodies in different states of decay, now absolutely cooked by the explosion.

"K obe!"Before the creature could get it's bearings, Citrine leveled another finger down the cave, a swell of fire and arcane swelling before she tossed the concentrated ball of energy to the manticore. She remained standing there, cocky as she pleased, wings fanning to catch the morning sun. As she's said, she was a creature of light, fire, and the burning inferno of the sun. Instead of singing to the Firebird her morning ritual she dedicated the fiery inferno to her patron. 1 MM point to empower fireball, rerolling up to 3 dice of damage m0TMwrxb8d6There was no kill like overkill. Luck roll to see if the heart is still useable 1d20
The flaming beast was confused and just as it was lunging out of the cave Citrine hit it again with another spell and the Manticore imploded into flames without any sound that was not suffocated by the heat wave swalling it, the flames spreading through the clearing as fiery burning feathers and pieces of flesh rained down on her illuminating everything around like a creepy candlelight dinner with a monster. Quih screamed in terror but the sound didn't even make it farther than a few meters before being swallowed by the inferno. Once nothing seemed to be moving he approached her once again, this time, slightly fearful that the Manticore was still alive. Or perhaps, fearful of her. What could really survive that kind of attack?. The Manticore was pretty much split open to the point that it wasn't really a Manticore anymore but quills and feathers and cooked flesh.
However, when they'd search for it they would find that the heart was still useable and had not been charred beyond recognition. Quih, however, would not approach the Manticore for all the money in the world and seemed to be a bit uncomfortable near Citrine as well, perhaps due to her shameless use of the fireball spell, which seemed to be a hazard to anything around her except herself.1d20+3·1d20

K reeing her delight, the Firebird's death toll fading around them, Citrine bellowed her wings to help waft away the smoke and heat. She whistled to Quih that it was safe to come out, but he seemed quite uncertain as to the whole thing. Fair's fair. It had been a lot of fire. Stepping through the burned ash and smoke, light brightening on her wings to keep the cave well lit for her daytime needing eyes, Citrine used her talons to cut and carve as if it were a big fish. A slice down the belly, meat pulling away from bone with ease. The heart, as she'd hoped, had been protected by the thick layers of muscle and bone. Cooling it down she cooed at it, a shimmer of light orange light exhaling from her breath to heal and fortify it against further damage, but the heart was sturdy enough on its own. Quih had tracked down a strong manticore, no doubt. Shifting through the ash she spotted the head and, using her mage hand, plucked as many shiny teeth as she could out of its mouth. Then, because she could? She took a bundle of the tail spikes as well. "Well." She stepped out of the cave to see her guide nervously standing off to the side where the rocky cave entrance turned back to forest. It had been lucky that she'd been able to chain blast fireballs with it still within the cave - that much fire outside of the shelter would have been a potential second forest fire. Spotting some remaining tongues of fire on the edge and around the cave she whistled to the flame, it obeying her command and lessening until it turned to smoke (control flames cantrip). "Tha' takes care o' that!" She beamed, fresh eyed and bushy tailed from the exhilarated way to start the day. There was a glow to her, a shimmer. The Firebird was pleased. "Keep an eye on these fer me? Aye want tae check teh back o' ets cave, see ef anything was left behind by any hopeless sod tha' was eaten o' something." There was bound to be loot, gold, or even more in a cave of a grand beastie such as this.

Everything that could have potentially been of some use for Citrine inside the cave had been burned to ashes or blown away by the force of the explosion, the most useful things she managed to find inside was pieces of leather now almost burned to a crisp and some crude weapons that had been snapped a torn apart by the Manticore's strength. Quih just stood there the whole time like he was something painted on the background, the experience close to surreal. He didn't have much to do with wizards, and just then he was realising how thankful he was for that. He couldn't imagine Faeren doing something like that, but then again maybe not all mages were so... volatile. Or so he hoped. Once the heart had been retrieved, they could start the journey back. Quih didn't take anything from the dead Manticore, perhaps thinking that escaping with his life had been enough reward. And like it happened many times, the journey back seemed like it was faster than the time it took to get there in the first place. Back in the city Quih bid his goodbye to Citrine and went back to his family, happy that he had managed to contribute in some way and also happy to put those fearsome experiences behind him.
Meanwhile, Faeren would be glad to receive the hard and knowing it hadn't been burned to a crisp, and would in turn offer to pay her for the job. Not an exhuberant quantity, as it was known that she couldn't really afford to pay anyone. It was mostly made out of volunteers that felt like the rewards outweighted the risk, nobles souls like those of Quih that despite their own mortality and weakness risked life and limb to try and make the world a better place.
