Quih dragged himself behind a tree, his jagged breathing barely hidden with all the sound the shrubmen were doing while they shot Citrine with their vines as she took flight, and then kneeled down to take a look at this legs and try to bandage them in order to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile, the rest of the shrubmen approached slowly underneath Citrine in order to get a better shot. The trees around her were tall, and freakishly large, they would allow for flight up to a certain point; which was exactly where she was. She could fly even higher if she wished it too, but the treetops would prevent her from seeing the shrubmen properly, and viceversa, though the scenery must certainly be beautiful on the other side. The vines that had once constricted her slowly, very slowly retracted now.1d20+3·2d6+1·1d20+3·2d6+1·1d20+3·2d6+1

Irritated, and coursing with wild magic in her veins glowing around her as if she herself was a shooting star, Citrine grasped her hand around the arcane focus around her neck with one hand, and pointed with the other. She wasn't a rational individual, especially when annoyed or angry or irritated - like she was now.
She whistled sharply as her eyes narrowed.
A bead of condensed fire grew at her fingertips, lingered as chaotic magic seeped into it, then fell from 70 feet up. Down below? The forest and field ignited into an inferno.
Action: Empowered fireball (can re-roll up to 3 dice), landing to not hit my guide, but to have the 20 foot radius (40 diameter) completely cover the area in fire. No kill like overkill. Also using the ability 'Bend Luck' to have each saving throw have 1d4 subtracted from their roll, 2 sorcery points used to do so.
Dex saving throw for half (-1d4 to their rolls) w14DSkcr8d6

The shrubmen exploded in flames and so too did everything around them. Fire immediatly caught on after the explosion and everything in the area began died... Except of course the fire itself, that started to spread albeit very slowly to the sides, in a random direction given how little wind there actually was down there. That was concerning. Quih heard the explosion and felt a shiver go down his spine as he was finishing bandaging his legs, and turned around only to receive a heatwave on his face blowing his hair backward, watching the blaze illuminate the area and fill the air with a crispy smell.
"Oh no"
He said getting up and immediately started looking for Citrine around. By instinct, he looked right, then left, couldn't find her anywhere. It was only after a few handful of seconds had passed that he thought of looking up and found her there, flying still. He just couldn't believe it, he had never seen that amount of destructive power being wielded by anyone, but it was better than being killed and then probably eaten by monstrous plants for sure. He brought both of his hands up towards his mouth and made a cone with them, shouting and making himself heard above the sound of fire crackling and the smoke from the carbonized remains of the shrubmen rising.
"Citrine, we need to go!"

T he small clearing in the trees where the entangling vines had been were now a blaze of phoenix fire. Hovering, wingtips skimming the canopy, Citrine watched with a glint in her eyes and her wings reflecting the glow of her chaos magic and inferno down below. She felt a shiver of pleasure down her back - the Firebird was pleased. Good. She let the initial heat burn down, descending ten feet at a time, until she landed in the charred remains of her enemies. Her glowing brightness was gone, her chaotic wild magic sinking back inside her veins, as she looked around for Quih. "Oi, lad, there ye are!" Her voice was jovial and filled with adrenaline. From dozens of small lacerations she was bleeding, particularly on her legs where she 'd been grappled down as well as thorn whip lashings on her arms. "Quih - whut ah thrill tha' was, aye?" He seemed anything but thrilled. "'Ere, lemme help ye out, as ah thanks fer tankin' some o' those nasty plants." It was private around here, no one to watch, gawk, or take notes for later. She held out her hand, inviting him to stand up from the tree he was crouching around. "Nae, Aye dan't dae this often. Et's.... Strange tae say teh least. Welllll, strange tae some. But Aye can heal ye, ef ye'll let me. Unless ye're managed tae bandage yeself up right an' proper an' are good tae go."

Quih was looking almost slack jawed when Citrine descended, but he was torn as to what he should be more afraid of if Citrine herself or the fire spreading behind her to the rest of the forest slowly but surely, smoke was slowly beginning to fill the area. Quih stumbled for a bit and then took a look at his legs, both were bleeding though not profusely, he could walk, albeit slowly. He considered what she was saying, then spoke up.
"If you could do such a thing, I would be grateful indeed."
He paused, but not for long his tone was still hurried due to the fire burning around them, pressing him to action
"I think I can walk, for now, though I'm not sure if I could run should the need arise, they got a good hit at my legs"
He looked over Citrine, his face reflecting the fierce fire burning behind her
"Let's... Let's talk about this while we walk, if this fire sorrounds us well I... I can't fly away can I?"
Explained to her with a nervous smile, a little bit worried, and trying to find an explanation for why she wasn't as worried as the fire as he was. Probably, because she was safe from the fire, either because she could fly or had a spell that could make her immune to the flames or something along those lines. He wasn't so resilient, however, and with his legs in that shape... Not so fast either. Forest fires were particularly hard to put out once they spread too much. They hadn't even found the manticore yet and he was having second thoughts, it really wasn't in his plans to fight his way to it, much less even handle the manticore himself. Should another conflict arise... He was already worried for his life as it was.

N ot batting an eyelash to the potential destruction of the forest around them, the Firebird's approval still a blessing in her head, Citrine nodded. "Right, let's walk then ah bit further away, an' Aye can heal ye up ah bit once we're a bit safer." She mage handed him his long walking stick, or was it just another long stick she'd found as a replacer? Either way, she offered it over with an unapologtic smile. Walking beside him to move away from the fires she reassured him. "Ef Aye need tae, Aye can grab ye by teh shoulders an' fly ye out. Done et before, tae someone taller than ye. Sae dan't worry about tha'."When they'd moved enough distance away from the fire Citrine asked for a moment. "Better tae heal ye nae before we get closer tae teh manicore. What can ye tell me about 'em by teh by? Never fought one meself, much less gut an' harvest one." Was it a surprise that she hadn't done any research before hand? No. No it shouldn't be. As she listened, hopefully, to anything Quih had to offer Citrine psyched herself up to perform what was perhaps one of her most closely guarded secrets. Her healing ability. People dozens and dozens of times over disbelieved her and laughed when she corrected them to her heritage. And many of them rolled their eyes when she went through the mythology of what the legendary elemental could do. Phoenixes were incredibly rare after all, and weren't they just birds? No was she was one. But they weren't just birds. Just like dragons who could take on a human form - many other legendary beasts could do the same. Phoenix were no different. And like the legend said, they could heal from their tears. A fact Citrine wasn't keen on letting many people realize was quite true. Partially because too many rumors of too many people believing her could bring the eye of those who traded in rare phoenix in the City of Brass on the Fire Plane. Fire giants, efreeti, and other shockingly large citizens of fire would have phoenix's in their homes. As pets, slaves, healers, watchbirds - whathave you. And she had no intent on being nabbed and sold, no thank you. Even a baby phoenix such as herself would sell at a high price like those the giant elemental full grown phoenix did. And she'd had enough kidnappings and imprisonment in her life already, thank you. And partly because... Well.... It was sorta embarrassing. Forcing one's self to cry was always a weird thing to do. And to cry onto the wounds? Ugh. "Alright lad, let me see ye legs." She pulled back, carefully, the bandages with both her hands and mage hand, keeping the bindings off the ground to not soil them. She herself wasn't in good shape, but her own healing fire would take care of that soon. But her warm fire couldn't heal those without fire inside of them, so, tears it was. Thoughts of how she felt when she woke up on the beach of the inner sea were pulled into focus. The despair. The loneness. It welled in her eyes as she closed them, bending her face so not a drop would be wasted. The shimmering tears fell, a prismatic sheen to them like what was found on her feathers, and landed on his wounds. It wouldn't be much, but it was something to help strengthen the wounds until they could rest fully before taking on the manticore. (One use of healing light) EkDbRtlH1d6As she did so, a light similar to what she'd been wrapped in high above the sky, though toned down slightly, lit over her skin. Her own wounds began to heal. (Second, and final, use of healing light + warlock spell slot cure light wounds) 1d6 + 1d8+3"We should rest an hour o' so though, before continuing." She recommended as her light faded. She was still feeling worn out from the thorns and whip lashes, an hour would do her good. ((DM approval for a short rest? If so, I'd like to use hit die as well to heal. Will roll that separately)) 1d6·1d6·1d8+3

Quih accepted the stick, that wasn't that far away from him with a surprise; or it would have been had he not seen the hand itself. Still spooky, just not as spooky. Or at the very least, not as a spooky as almost being killed by plants. The tension of the moment going a long way into him not questioning many things beyond his immediate actions, or lack of thereof, towards survival. He was about to ask her a sound "what" when she mentioned she didn't know what a Manticore was or how to kill one, but he stopped mid word. Gazing at the fire behind her maybe she didn't even need know the subtleties of the manticore, she could just vaporize her, and see that the heart was not also destroyed in the process.
"They can fly, and they can shoot javelin-like bones from their tail to kill prey from afar. They are aggressive, but not entirely animalistic. I'm not sure they have any weakness that any other mortal being would not have, but the heart must remain intact... I don't know anything about magical processes but I suppose if the heart is cooked it won't work anymore."
He didn't protest when Citrine wanted to see his legs; they were wounded up real good. One was bitten and had it's flesh showing, the bandage would need to be cleaned up and that was to say nothing about the wound itself, but in the pinch of the moment it had been better than to just let it bleed on it's own. The other one had been stabbed through at the thigh. The wounds closed a bit at the touch of the tears, not nearly enough to close completely but they did stop to bleed nearly as much as they were before.
Quih blinked rapidly a couple times, confused.
"Wait what"
He said not really understanding what was going on with her, only briefly coming back to focus on the situation at hand when she spoke.
"We can't! No, not with the fire this close, we have no way of knowing which way it'll burn, and if it sorrounds us we'll be killed by it, that is if the smoke doesn't kills us first, we need to keep going; figure which way the fire is burning and then go the opposite way. That's our best chance of outrunning it, and hope that it doesn't spread to where the manticore is..."
Said then, before starting to limp again measuring which way to go, before heading left
[You may take a short rest; considering you're following Quih at his slower than normal pace and taking a breather afterwards]

S hrugging Citrine spared a glance towards the slowly burning forest. It wasn't the high heat of summer, the trees and plants were wet enough that it'd burn out eventually. "Et'll be fine. Better tae 'ave teh tangily vines burnt out than tae let teh rooms grow back an' spread. A right fine invasion it'd be otherwise tae be sure." As she walked slowly next to Quih a flickering flame licked around her like a candle in a breeze. Ever since the Man with the Orange Eyes had brought her back? Her fire had been behaving much nicer than before, warm and pleasant instead of hot and wild - at least, it was easier to switch between the two. Hit die: will edit and add dice as I choose to use them (alright, so used all of them >_< fucking 1-3 rolls) HP: 50/59_L5ZPinT1d8 1d6 1d61d6 1d61d6 1d6Feeling back up to snuff, no fire pun intended, Citrine considered the characteristics of the manticore. Aggressive but not immediately so. Lil' bugger, it was gonna be hard to end it. But for the sake of the ritual, Fae's request, and her own interest in hearing the response of the devils she'd manage. Plus? The Firebird was eager to burn, and who was she to deny her patron after all they'd gone through? Quietly, as best she could, Citrine picked her by returning up into the air - gliding and perching from tree to tree. She'd not make the same mistake of being caught on the ground like before. The trees were big enough she could bank around them, always keeping Quih in her sights, but dexterous and small enough to weave as she wanted. 1d8·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6

The rest of the journey continued without any further encounter, Quih even managed to find a spot where to rest for a bit and tend to his wounds further. They advanced in the forest until they made it to a small clearing where an elevation in the terrain gave way to a natural cave. More than a cave though it looked to be like a shallow thing, perhaps no more than ten meters deep, with luck. On top of it the trees that used to grow had been cut, meaning there was nothing blocking flight in the area. Outside the shallow "cave" were bones, and remains of different animals and even some pieces that looked not-quiet-so-animal. Quih stopped a good three-hundred feet away, still behind the last of the trees in the area and turned to speak with Citrine.
"This is as far as I'll go, I'm afraid"
He whispered, as if he was afraid that the Manticore could hear him and go after him.
"I wouldn't be of much help fighting a manticore and the latest developments had made me realise how much I appreciate living; that cave right there is where the manticore sleeps... It's eyes allows it to see in the night as if it was day, during the daylight it must be sleeping..."
Quih told her and pointed towards the cave with his stick; beyond the first two meters the darkness began to crept in, leaving the rest of the cave in absolute darkness, as it was already hard to see from that distance. Up above, the sky was colored of a deep purple mixed in with orange was sunset was beginning to fall.
"What will you do?"
Asked the man, around them the forest had suddenly seemed to go quiet, not a single sound other than the blowing of the wind.1d20+2

"N ae go en at night, tha's fer damn sure!" She laughed to herself as she followed the direction of the stick. She got flickers of better vision in the dark, as if the ability was catching fire within herself - but it wasn't anything reliable. Looking up into the sky she frowned. "Sae tha' means ye an' Aye need tae get away from et's home 'ere before et wakes up an' comes out tae play. Downwind from et, sae et won't smell us." She tucked her wings closer around her like a shawl over each shoulder, as if keeping them close made her scent less apparent. "And dae sae quietly sae we don't spook et. Et's gone quiet already, sundown's coming." She wasn't her best at night, she was a creature of light and fire and sun, not shadow and darkness and stars. The thought of simply fireballing it from here, when it was groggy from sleep, crossed her mind. But the opposite was true too. If she waited until morning, after it'd been out and about all night, then laid down to sleep? It would be tired, hopefully full, and an easier target.

It didn't take too long for the Manticore to come out of it's hiding den, a hideous beast like a bizarre mix between a bird, a lion, and a malformed human with quills and claws and a spiked tail. By that point however Citrine and Quih had managed to find themselves a decent hiding spot that prevented them from being spotted from the air and the ground alike. The beast walked out of it's den, smelled the air, and after a few minutes of walking around smelling the air it finally took flight and disappeared off into the night. The sounds of the forest at night were different than those during the day, and without direct moonlight to light the path for them even Citrine would find it hard to see beyond ten or so meters ahead of her; she wasn't blind but neither could she see everything around her.
Being so close to the Manticore's den meant that other predators stayed away from the place, which left them ample room to take a long rest, despite having to keep an ear out for the Manticore's return in case they were detected. However the beast wasn't precisely known for it's stealth and the flapping of it's wings eventually was heard again just before dawn; it came down carrying what seemed to be like the remains of a human being that had been mangled. The manticore dragged it inside it's den, and then started to mangle it further and eat it up, with horrible wet crunches until eventually it was done. And as sunrise began, the sounds stopped.
Quih was terrified and stood as still as a statue making not even a sound as he breathed; the creature was huge. Easily four meters tall and just as much wide, more with it's wings spread open. Now, the creature was back inside it's cave, but the speed at which it had moved earlier remained a fresh memory in his mind.
Nonetheless, they hadn't been spotted yet.
