The thing was – fast. Thea watched it go, heart pounding in her chest, still crouching behind the tree. She could feel the weight of Susie’s potion the satchel on her back, hyper-aware of the rounded edge resting against her. The fog was incredibly thick, but Thea could just see Goromitali, lying still and low on the ground.
Was he still alive? Thea couldn’t tell. She squeezed her hands into fists, taking a deep breath. Panicking now wouldn’t help – it wouldn’t. But there was a rising tide of fear in her chest, and it was only getting harder to keep it contained. She let herself feel afraid, trying to own it, and breathed through the fear, shaking a little.
Slowly, slowly, she crept towards Goromitali, focusing all her energy on reaching him silently and stealthily.

Creature's perception, with disadvantage due to the now heavier rolling mist around you all to hear and notice Thea moving towards Goromitali, and not running where he thought she was.

If the searcher previously didn't know where the hider was, that remains the same. However, the creature gets a hunch the trickery it fell for is, in fact, a trickery. Because these are his woods. And he is intelligent enough to realize he is faster than his prey, and would hear Thea if she was actually around. Hence, an active roll instead of a passive perception.))
The creature halted it's silent running, stood up, and stopped moving. There was something, a hunch of sorts, due to how far it had ran after 'Thea', that his prey was not actually around. Quietly, eerily, he twisted his body around to turn 360* in a circle surveying the area around him. The mist obscured most of his vision, just as he was hidden from his his prey from him, his prey was hidden by him.
Completing his circle the vicious man-beast hunkered back into the trees, disappearing into the mist.

Thea knelt down next to Goromitali, fumbling open the healing jar and scooping some of the mixture out with her fingers. Her heart was pounding; she would glance over her shoulder every few seconds, expecting at any time for the creature to return, to feel its axe -
He was breathing, she thought. that was good - really good. It made Thea feel, at least for the moment, as if she’d made the right choice to try and save him.
Thea slathered the cream on the two axe wounds, then sat back and hoped for the best. Hackles rising, she would glance through the woods again, searching in the trees.

Thea's searching around would give her nothing. Just eerie silence. Fog and mist rolling about. The only sound was her own frantic breathing trying to keep quiet. It's partner sound, of Goromitali struggling to take in breath again after the trauma his body experienced, was the only thing to answer the air genasi. Goromitali, as Thea made her way to him and started to apply the ointment, would groan, rolling over in half-conscious effort so Thea could apply the rest of the ointment to the other wound. That was probably going to feel stiff for the next couple of days, that was for sure, but even as he quietly hissed, the dragonborn would sit up, shaking his head off and checking his arm. Pained, yes, but still usable.
"Thank you," the dragonborn would whisper as he brought himself to a crouched stand. "We ssshould hide," Goromitali would offer, "and then maybe ussse the portal to get out of here after we know whatever that wasss isss not around anymore-" where did it go, anyway? The green dragonborn would focus his energy before continuing. "Take cover over behind those treesss. Ssstay clossse to me, and we will have a better chance to be hidden," he would tell her before closing his eyes. A small pulse would emit from Goromitali, and a veil of shadow and silence would fall over Thea and himself, dampening their presence to everything else in the area. Their steps wouldn't leave prints, the winds wouldn't carry their scents, and their voices would be more quiet, along with any other noise they could make.
"Quietly now," Goromitali would motion, having Thea go first. If the monster came back, he wouldn't want Thea to be cut down. If anything, the dragonborn would at least make sure she got out of this, even if he was left here afterward.
(Note- Pass Without Trace: Thea and Goromitali can add +10 to their Stealth rolls, and can't be tracked except by magical means. Unfortunately, it's my action, and I'm out of Ki, but we'll see how this plays out, right? Also, Goromitali can't take the Hide action until next turn for a Stealth check of his own.)

The sight of Goromitali moving was an enormous relief; they weren’t anyway near out of the woods, literally or metaphorically, but it would send a huge rush of comfort through Thea, even more than the sight of him breathing had. He wasn’t dead, or even so badly injured that Susie’s potion wouldn’t help. She wouldn’t have to live with having made the wrong choice. And – as a bonus – she wasn’t alone. “Let me know if you want another dose,” Thea would whisper back. “There should be four more doses.” She couldn’t tell how much it had helped, or how good – or bad – Goromitali was feeling now. Susie had given them the ointment outright, and Thea wouldn’t feel bad in using it to make it through wherever they were alive. Goromitali told her to stay close, and Thea nodded, still for a moment as he closed his eyes. She thought she felt – something close over them, but it was hard to put a finger on. Slowly, carefully, she crept in front of Goromitali, heading for the trees he’d pointed out, pacing her steps. She would just barely reach them, and crouch down beneath the trees, doing her best to hide.

You stealth to the east carefully, stepping carefully over branches and doing your best to ignore crunchy leaves - but the mvp is the darkness that Goromitali summoned to cover the both of you.
Nothing moves in the mist. There are no sounds. Lurking shadows are all around.
You are both lost, wandering aimlessly. You hadn't been able to determine any key landmarks or create points of reference while you'd been walking casually through the woods ((RIP Survival Rolls))
Goromitali, please make your stealth roll. We are in a sorta hybrid rounds not rounds right now. I want you to get use out of your Pass Without Trace, so we can cover what happens in this hour of your spell. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to do while you are stealthing around at half speed, if you change directions, or if you'd like to move full speed by taking a passive stealth of your ability as a +10 instead of your usual +X modifier (aka, 20 for stealth). And please let me know how long you would like to keep walking.

Goromitali would wait for Thea to start moving, then move behind her. Even with the silence and darkness that he was focusing on aiding them, he was still pained, his body not moving exactly the way he wanted it to without some discomfort. Still, though, he moved as quietly as possible in the same direction, at least until the both of them were within the cover of trees to the east.
"Massster Thea Baring-" the monk would sigh. "Maybe we ssshould ussse the portal back to Waterdeep?" Maybe there was a reason no one really took on Susie's Quests? What kind of person sent adventurers through a portal to a completely different location and told them to find something? If these were the forests north of Waterdeep, he would have already had some of the things on the list, or at least wouldn't have been hunted by whatever that unnatural abomination was. Yes, it was a bit of a sting to Goromitali's pride, but at least he was still alive to feel that sting, and at least Thea was still alive as well.
"I apologize," he would add as they crept through the forest. "I did not think thisss quessst would unfold in thisss way." He would look around the two of them- the unfamiliar forest, the haunting mist, even the shadows outside of his veil- all alien to him now. There wasn't any landmarks to be seen, any information to be gathered. This wasn't comparable to any forest that he had ever been in, magical or otherwise. "I did not want to put you in any amount of unfathomable danger. I figured we could handle elk. A boar. Gathering vegetation. But... whatever that wasss?" He would curl his hand into a fist, frustrated at himself more than anything else, his lip speaking with a little bit of a snarl, though that could have been the pain as well.
"I do not think we can handle that," another sting to his pride. Seemed to happen a lot today.1d20+14

Goromitali suggested they take the portal back, and Thea felt an overwhelming rush of agreement, nearly stopping still. This place was beautiful, and at first she’d enjoyed being here; but that creature, whatever it had been, had swiftly ruined that for her. For both of them.
“I think it would be a good idea,” Thea glanced around. “This isn’t what I was expecting either. Maybe we should have gone for lavender,” Thea managed a faint smile, trying at humor at least.
“But – ” Thea stopped abruptly, eyes widening for a moment. “Maybe it’s gone away,” Thea glanced around again, wishing she could see through the mists, wishing it wasn’t quite so dark, wishing she’d at least managed to throw one more lightning bolt at that – that – thing, trying to gather her thoughts.
“… but...” Thea began again, “if Susie opens the portal,” she said, slowly, softly, “will it be able to follow us through?” There were plenty in Waterdeep strong enough to take on such a creature, Thea had no doubt of that. But would they be on hand in Susie’s potion shop? "With this fog, it could be right - right there and we'd never know," Thea clenched her jaw, willing her teeth not to chatter.
"I might be able to blow some of the fog away," Thea said, slowly. "But... if it's not following us, then blowing the fog away might get its attention. That's the last thing we want," she glanced at Goromitali; he looked visibly pained, far from healed. "I just don't know what to do. It feels like no matter what, we're taking a risk."

Goromitali wouldn't smile at the joke, but it wasn't lost on him entirely. A small chuckle escaped his nostrils.
The idea of just calling for the portal and leaving was good, but the counterpoint that Thea brought up was also good. Even with other adventurers in Waterdeep, how many people would the monstrosity get through before one of those adventurers actually showed up and managed to put a stop to it? That would be on them, and the leniency that Goromitali had allowed himself slowly hardened back into stubborn dragonborn stoicism.
"Then let usss take the risssk that has the leassst potential of hurting innocent people on the other ssside of the portal," the dragonborn would suggest. "If thisss creature livesss, then it must have a place it returnsss to, a place to ressst," Goromitali would offer. "We could try to find it there? Or we can set a trap for it and surprise the creature this time around?" Goromitali would think, looking over Thea the best he could in the veil. "Either way, we ssshould rest and recover before we confront the creature again. I will need all of the ki I can mussster."
He would think of something- what exactly Thea could do in terms of defending herself. "Massster Thea Baring," he would ponder aloud, "forgive if thisss ssseems offensssive, but what can you do to potentially bring thisss creature down?" He didn't mean it in any negative way, but instead was merely trying to put the question in the way that made the most sense.

Hunting the creature to it's lair was a better plan than anything Thea had come up with. She sighed in relief. "A great idea," Thea agreed.
So far, of course, Thes had utterly failed to find an enormous herd of elk, which made her feel less than certain of her ability to track the creature to it's lair. "Perhaps we had better find a place to rest then. How long will your spell work?" On one hand, distance between them and the attack site seemed promising. On the other, it might make it harder for them to travel the creature.
"I can.." Thea looked down at her slim, blue hands, still flickering with faint lightning. "I am a sorcerer," she straightened, owning the label for now. "I have a few spells I can cast which should damage this... thing. In truth, it will be a pleasure to call down lightning and thunder on it."

"It ssshould work for about a hour," Goromitali would offer with a nod, agreeing with her, "which ssshould be long enough for me to refocusss." There would be no real advantage otherwise. He could move faster in small spurts against the creature, though upon finding out that Thea could call down lightning and thunder, Goromitali's plan would change from a straight fight with this creature to instead distracting the creature and keeping it away from the genasi to the best of his ability.
"After our ressst, we could hide in the canopy above. I could produce sounds to attract the creature to usss, and then we could ssstrike," the dragonborn would offer. "I think our bessst chance, Massster Thea Baring, would be for me to dissstract the creature while you call down lightning and thunder-" Thea's words, not his. "Is it easssy for you to aim around me with your magic?" The dragonborn knew every person's magic was different from the other. Some could craft explosions from nothing, some could heal, and some could even transform into bestial shapes, like his wife. Either way, it would be the best chance they stood. If Goromitali could keep the creature close to him, Thea would have the best chances at hitting the creature without having to worry about the creature coming for her.
"No matter what happensss, however, make sssure you get back to Waterdeep," Goromitali would tell Thea, caring more about her making it back than himself. Sure, it was a risk, the creature coming through, but if Susie could craft portals that could bring them here, then she should at least be able to hold the creature back long enough to find one of those other adventurers. With that thought in mind, Goromitali would tuck against the tree he was at, preparing to take a quick rest to recover, refocus, and mentally prepare himself for the task at hand.

Thea's eyes were wide. She hated this plan, really hated it, but she couldn't think of anything better either. She couldn't distract the creature - it would rip her apart and it didn't sound like Goromitali could attack from a distance.
"It's - it will be hard if you're too close to it, within five feet, and riskier if you're between me and the creature." Thea twisted her hands against each other. "Last time it -" she squeezed her eyes shut.
"I can at least summon a set of -" Thea held out one lightning bolt covered hand, "this, for you. I don't think it will help much but - maybe a little. It won't hurt or restrict your movement."
"I'd rather you came back too," Thea's voice was very small and soft, and she took a position in front of Goromitali, doing her best to stand guard while he rested. "I think you should take another dose of healing potion too, if - if you don't feel better after you've rested."
