There it was again, and just like last time it gave his fast-beating heart a little spark, seeing that sign up. Knowing that, up there, Thea was rooting for him and watching. A warm feeling he hadn't expected, a cable back to reality, an upbeat reminder.
From all the things he had been expecting to fight a half dragon was not one of them. Dragons were creatures of legend and quite dreaded, and rightly so, but a half dragon? That was leagues above a bloodthirsty Orc. Though when he finally managed to place his eyes upon the beast it turned out to be rather... humanoid and not as huge as he had pictured him, but still quite big, bigger than the Orc maybe. They approached and he was ready to meet blade with blade when instead he opened his mouth. What was he doing? No sound came out. He saw a spark. What was-
Too late like a flamethrower a blast of flame engulfed him and the whole area he was around scorching the sands and tarnishing his armor burning pieces of his clothes to a crisp, he barely managed to cover his eyes and try to get out of the way though it still burned the area across one of his eyes, the force of the blow threatened with sending him reeling back, to propel him backwards. He felt the pressure in but an instant and his mask caught on fire as well, breaking, it's time done and pass when it shattered into burning pieces as he tossed it away.
He had no time to mourn it's passing for the creature was probably already making it's next move; he had to seize the opportunity. The flames stopped coming only to reveal a charging, still burning Arioch charging headfirst into the half dragon, greatsword in hand as he cleaved at him this time not with powerful abandon but with a calculated strike that sought to attack the most vulnerable pieces of the armor of his enemy.
With a powerful warcry timed just as the flames let his voice be heard his greatsword cracked past the half-dragons armor and into his hardened scales rupturing the soft fleash beneath in that unexpected attack filled with anger. He felt the wind on his face, how naked he felt now with his mask after he had lost it.

Half of the arena roared with Zenobo as the flames burst from his mouth. Pip and Thea both screamed, although the noise would almost certainly be inaudible from the arena. It would seem this was a favorite opening move of him, and with good reason. The flames washed over Arioch like a flamethrower, setting his clothing and mask aflame, but also hiding him for just a few, precious moments.
He burst from the flames, first blow glancing off of Zenobo - then his second swing seemed to hit the weakest point in the other combatant’s armor, sinking deep through his scales into the flesh beneath. Zenobo led out a loud kree, pushing back off Arioch, with enough force to yank himself off the sword. There was a glimmer of pleasure in his eyes, a look of almost joy that belied his earlier stoicism; this was what he lived for too, a glimpse of the excitement he’d loved as a soldier.
Zenobo’s face split into a grin, and he grasped the handle of his longsword with both hands, sending two slashing blows towards Arioch, one biting into his leg where the plate didn’t fully cover.

It was after his first succesful attack after seizing the opportunity that the recoil of his daunting choice hit him. He was only using one eye to see, the other one was completely out of comission for the time being and he couldn't quite see properly from the one that was still functioning as it should. His whole body ached and soon he needed to parry the strikes his opponent was throwing at him; he managed to parry one but the second one came at him from the blind angle and managed to do some damage cracking the armor slightly inwards with a blow.
His own strikes suffered from this lack of accuracy as his footing was not the same and the sudden mess his sense were in didn't help, he had trouble gauging the distance with only one eye and missed both strikes. Smoke was still rising from his clothes and armor and heat seeped out into the winter weather, his hair had been burnt too and his wounds were now open for everyone to see as long as the patches of burnt flesh.

It was hard to tell. Perhaps Zenobo really had intended to hit Arioch again, swinging the longsword two-handed at his opponent, once, twice – but both blows glanced off his armor, giving the barbarian a bit of breathing space as the two circled each other.
“Chin up,” Zenobo’s voice was deep and gravely, the phrase quick enough that Arioch almost might – might think he’d imagined it, if he could even hear it through his rage; no one outside the arena would hear it. He grinned, revealing small sharp teeth.

Arioch was breathing heavily trying to mantain his focus, to hone his rage and concentration into his opponent even through his confused senses, even through the aching pain that burned across his whole body. Something was making a strange high pitched noise, which was then followed by his hearing feeling as if it was underwater, but only from one ear. He thought he heard something coming from his opponent and barely managed to dodge the next two incoming blows, their speed whistling through the air having him move back a couple of steps to regain his footing and then he saw his chance.
It only lasted but a moment in which his senses managed to grab hold of the situation again, the dizziness receded, things looked clear again. He could see the swings of his opponent and thenh e brought his own down to him to match them. Steel clashed as they faced each other, the sparks flying off the sharpened blades into the sand below for the fiercest of blows, trailing blue across their lengths until he found the opening Zenobo's defense and pressed for it.
He pretended to be going for a thrust only for at the next moment turn his body around coming with the full weight of the blade towards the half-dragon, an upwards, diagonal cut as he tried to target that same area he had managed to critically wound the first time. Arioch knew he wouldn't survive another one of those fire breaths the monster could throw at him at will, he had to finish the fight before he decided to do it again. He didn't know if the monster was just being sporting about it, or simply couldn't do it again but wouldn't hesitate to char him up the moment he could.

This time, Arioch’s blade slipped up under Zenobo’s guard; he didn’t manage to sink his blade into the same spot at before, but he hit the wound he’d already made, and hard, sending blood spurting into the air. Zenobo grinned, blood staining his teeth now and dripping to the floor beneath his armor, splattering his legs and the sand.
Zenobo’s hands tightened on his longsword, and he slashed at Arioch again, and again, this time with intent, slashing at Arioch’s side and managing a glancing, painful blow.

The tempo was picking up, the focused intent of both fighters was seeping into the air around them as the weapons sang their bloodied song. The clash of steel did rang and time seemed to slow down just a bit at the last moment as his concentration peaked. His wounds were considerable but it wasn't as bad as it had been last time against the Orc. He was bleeding, but not quite with one foot on the grave yet. He could see his opponent was getting tired; while he had years of experience on his back he seemed... Slightly old. Or at least as old and aged as a lizard monster can be. But still, he was relentless about his fighting and wouldn't let any opportunity slip. At one split second Arioch thought maybe his opponent would yield, he looked bloodied, but he was far less unpleasant that the Orc had been. It was a hesitation that made him put down his defenses by just about a moment, which Zenobo seized and slashed across one of his arms sprinkling his legs and his foot with his own blood. Arioch gritted his teeth together in pain and soon his expression changed to one of recognition when he saw the sharpened, big mouth of his opponent start to light up. That glow that had him confused so much earlier was now present once again. And he knew then; if he didn't end the fight right then and there he would die a seething death in the arena, burnt to a crisp under a Waterdeepian winter. Instead of pulling back, he pushed forward and clashed with his body against the half-dragon's while his sword was still out of position from the most recent cut. The impact was enough to send him reeling a bit, off balance, to give themselves some distance. The glow was there. And this time so was Arioch's blade that sank deep under his chin where he had no armor except for his scales; running him through in one motion that was sure to end his life almost instantly, as his mind would be far too disconnected to even register the pain. He didn't slam him against the ground like he had done the Orc, though. Rather he held him there still standing so near to him, gazed into his eyes. There was no hate in Arioch this time, no hesitation either. Just something that had to be done. Even if his opponent had cheated as far as his own rules were concerned, he came through. Still he was victorious. Yes... The voice rejoiced at the visage. Slowly, he let the body of the half-dragon fall to the arena face up, leaving a trace of blood across his sword. He took a deep breath and a good look at his fallen opponent before turning towards the crowd, and rising up his sword with his uninjured arm, heavy breathing painting small white clouds out of his lips. He turned around doing a full circle to get a good look at the arena, and once again saluted the crowd. Though yet again, his sword as presented towards Thea and Pip. Slowly he made his way back to the inside of the building, feeling how the wounds from last time were piling up from the burns of this round. His eye still closed from the wounds, his hearing still slightly impaired. He was hoping some quick rest could fix that. But he also knew better.
