The two arrows whistled past the intended target, one slamming into a wall in a shower of splinters, the other narrowly missing Elias. The two enforcers turned their attention towards the assailant, easily spotting the bow wielding drow. The first enforcer, having been the original target, was the first to react. he took off running, hoping to close the distance between them quickly. He bellowed incoherently, both as a war cry and to warn his comrades of the danger. As he neared, Kara made a masterful attack. Her glaive slipped past the raised shield, sailing underneath his arm before scraping against the chain mail over his ribs. The blow glanced off, setting him off balance. He fumbled, driving his spear into the ground. The eastern spear-men descended on the crowd, ready to slaughter the innocent. The first faltered, however, at the sight of Warden. A moment later, he spotted her weapon. A dangerous foe. He moved on, choosing a softer target. A middle aged man. His spear quickly found itself lodged in the mans chest. The other spear-man found a victim of his own, an elderly woman who was out shopping at the time. It seemed, however, that he had some reservations, as her managed to miss the frail lady. She fell to the ground regardless, in fear. As the chaos truly began, several citizens made a break for it, sprinting along the river, careful to stay clear of the Spear-man. (E1 move, Kara misses opportunity attack, E1 melee attack against Dhuan. Attack Roll 1 ) (D2 readies an action to attack any hostile that moves with 5ft. The spear-man near the two civilians to the south was in trouble. Warden had him in her sights the moment he came into view, and wasted no time the moment she could strike. As chaos erupted and another civilian had fallen, right before her eyes, the armored tiefling narrowed her eyes and readied her glaive. Her binding oath was one of vengeance and if she couldn't avenge those who had been guilty of nothing but being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it was worth nothing. She made her vow in Infernal, to skewer him just has his companion had skewered that middle-aged man, and charged to make good on her words. Whatever it took, she would see him fall...and then get to work on the next target, hopefully clearing the path for those fleeing the scene. Hopefully, she wasn't the only one not interested in waiting for the City Watch to show up and sort all this out. Gods knew it would be far too late for most of these people, by then. That thought made her blood boil and she planned to make an example of those who decided that this display of terror would be a good idea. Let them choke on it, if she had any power at all.

The first attack, a desperate strike at a moving foe, smashed into his shoulders from behind. Fat and skin were split as a deep gash opened up, crimson dripping down his back. The second attack proved just as dangerous, crashing into the targets shoulder and shattering his collarbone. It was a wound that would certainly prove fatal in the long term, should he live to see the end of the fight. Seeing the relatively safety afforded by Kara and Dhuans distraction, two more civilians rushed to safety. (AoO hits) (S1 takes 5 damage) (Attack hits) (S3 takes 6 damage) (NPC 4 RESCUED) (NPC 9 RESCUED) moralhazard is up!

Kara was midway through a bite of bread when the shouting began in the square. She coughed, eyes watering, and swallowed, hard, watching the distant slaughter through narrowed eyes. Kara did not hesitate; she could not hesitate. Helm commanded vigilance and defense of those in need. He commanded justice. Kara could no more have hesitated than she could have willed herself to stop breathing. Kara crammed the last of the bread in her mouth. She chewed and swallowed as she snatched her gauntlets from the ground, pulling them on. Dhaunmyr was already on his feet next to her, firing two arrows at the closest of the enemy. Kara snapped up next to him, moving easily in the heavy half-plate, glaive already in hand. The man he had shot at came charging towards then, and Kara struck at him as he closed; the blow glanced off him and did not sink deep, but perhaps it was enough. By the grace of Helm, his strike at Dhaunmyr did not succeed. There was no time to be afraid for the friend she held so dear; she could not risk even the ounce of focus that fear would strip from her. Kara inhaled, deeply, and let the rest of the world fade away, all-consuming battle focus narrowing her world to the fights to come. She gripped her glaive tight in her hands, and swung at him, throwing everything she had into the blows.

If the first blow against the warrior was a warning, the next two were a firm follow-up. Kara's glaive slammed into the shield, the sheer force causing it to crush its own wielders jaw. He stumbled for a moment before a second blow split the chain mail and buried itself in his back, the steel blade bisecting his spine. He crumpled to the ground, limp and lifeless. A civilian, seeing others make it to safety, followed them. The northwest spear-man, well aware of the dying screams of his comrade, rushed to reinforce the northern front. The second Enforcer, sensing the imminent collapse of the northern line, rushed to engaged the armored woman. He lashed out with his spear, hoping for a lucky strike. His weapon struck true, finding a hole in her defenses. The wizard moved, heading for cover behind the statue. While he was confident in his arcane abilities, he still feared an arrow in the chest. Behind the stone, he leaned out to fire a Fire Bolt at Dhuan. The Leader of the group finally decided to step in, to show his men how it's done. Crossbow in one hand, he drew his mace in the other and charged into combat with Warden. He made two quick attacks with the blunt weapon, scoring a solid hit with the first, and a miss with the second. Another civilian made his escape! (E1 is DEAD) (NPC 25 is RESCUED) (D1 readies an attack against a any hostile that moves within 5 ft of it) (S2 dashes) (E2 moves to attack Kara) (E2 HITS) (Kara takes 5 damage) (W moved to 3/4 quarters cover) (W casts Fire Bolt at Dhuan) (W CRITS! T he once-noble had not at all expected this particular turn of events. He stepped away from the bridge with all the intention of making his way back home to the Trade Ward, silvery gaze taking in the faces around him, only to realize that something organized and dangerous was unfolding too late. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw some men remove their cloaks and some others draw weapons, but it was the spear-wielding asshole who skewered some innocent bystander that held his entire attention for a long, slow breath, Elias' ire set alight like the fire bolt that streaked through the square, anger simmering at the words shouted from near the statue by the man and his dogs.He drew greatsword that hung comfortably over his shoulder, moving with measured calm even as other folks nearby also decided they weren't going to take this sort of accusation. The tall smith saw a flash of metal south of the bridge toward the apparent leaders of this ill-fated attempt at a lower class insurrection in broad daylight in a busy street—gods, who were these idiots, anyway? inbred commoners, surely and ones totally confused about where to put their proper loyalties—and it was hard not to miss the red skin. In fact, the other tiefling looked familiar. An arrow whistled by his remaining horn and Elias hissed, ducking in time to see a woman next to the drow over his other shoulder drop one of their attackers without breaking a sweat.Good. He wasn't without talented assistance. He'd taken enough of his time studying the movements of his enemies, counting their weapons, judging the craftsmanship of their armor. He'd seen enough of their senseless, clearly foolish violence, and so he leapt into action, quickly attempting to intercept a spearman on his way toward the other tiefling and the wizard. As he moved, he growled a few words of Infernal, the last syllables of which left his lips in a puff of chilled breath. A blue glow seemed to seep from his pores, covering him in a thin, magical layer of extra protection, his Armor of Agathys an innate gift of his hellish heritage.Stepping up to the spearman who stood between himself and the other tiefling who would be finding herself quickly surrounded if he didn’t move to assist, he pointed his blade toward the asshat with a flourish, both hands loose and ready on the hilt, Elias bared his sharp fangs, emphasizing his cultured use of language with his sharp, pointed tongue, "You and your lowborn companions have chosen the wrong damn part of Waterdeep to fuck with." Movement: Toward S1Action: Cast Armor of Agathys via his tiefling Legacy of Stygia ability (cast at 2nd level) for +10 temp HPs and 10 cold damage to anyone who hits Elias.HP: 38 / 28AC: 17 (Chain Mail, Defensive Fighting Style)Superiority Dice: 4d8 (Menacing Attack, Riposte, Trip Attack)Second Wind, Action Surge still available.

The final spar-man to react moved swiftly, sprinting across the square to flank Elias. Seeing an opening, two more civilians escaped.
