“I’d personally suggest some kind of gown, for the event, but I’ve never seen you wear a...” Dhaunmyr cut himself short. A dress. He’d never seen her in a dress. It may have been a practical choice, or that she simply preferred to not wear dresses at all.
“Perhaps something... a nice jacket, some kind of fancy tie about the neck, white shirt...”
“Doublet... cape... instead of those ghastly things that come out to here, maybe a skirt that sort of...” Dhaunmyr gestured vaguely.
“What do you see in your brain when you think clothes for a formal occasion? Don’t say anything you’ve seen me wear, they’re not as formal as you think. That’s Dhaunmyr casual.” He knew full well that his choices in garments were... interesting. Not by any means ugly, or bad, but he had entirely his own style. Perhaps she’d describe something more like a militaristic formal outfit, that sounded like a Kara thing to think. “I’m not sure you’d be comfortable in avante garde, haute couture.” It wasn’t mean, he just genuinely thought that.

Dhaunmyr's transformation was met with an appreciative eye from Solstice, who nodded in firm approval. Black, gold and purple suited him nicely, though she had a feeling saying so was redundant and boost an already healthy ego. Accustomed to magic and magical transformations of varying kinds, she was less fazed by it all but that didn't meant she wasn't enjoying herself. On the contrary, she was a firm supporter of having fun before, during and after making the world a better place. That mirror alone was making this job worthwhile so far; hopefully the rest of the night would hold up to her expectations for some adventure and excitement.
Solstice looked back over to Kara as she rejoined them, wanting to comfort her directly but guessing that would not be welcome. That emerging panic was met with a firm nod and reassuring smile, as she listened to Dhaunmyr's contribution. Glancing briefly at the drow, she nodded as her gaze shifted back to Kara. She tilted her head, red curls swaying as her expression grew thoughtful. "Wear what suits you best, first and foremost. That doesn't have to be a gown, though they're varied enough that I bet something out there would appeal to you. If you're not comfortable in high fashion, there are other ways you can show some flair. I like the idea of a stylish jacket and high boots, all polished and whatnot. Maybe a cravat and some nice gloves to round it out?"

A... gown? Kara shot Dhaunmyr a look that was apparently answer enough to that suggestion. He dropped it. Wildly fashionable and fanciful. Neither of those worked for Kara; she didn’t even know what fashionable looked like, not in Waterdeep or anywhere else. Worse, she would have to picture it herself, in the end. This wasn’t something Dhaunmyr could do for her.
Kara glanced down at her comfortable tunic, missing it already. This was what would suit her best. She swallowed, hard. What formal clothes had she worn? Her guard uniform, of course. Not the day to day one - the formal one, dark gray jacket and pants with a wide white sash. It ached to think of it, somewhere in her chest, and Kara didn’t think she could wear that. Not again. Armor was good - safe. For all she had hated the Freewolves she had liked the half-plate armor she had worn for them. Somehow she didn’t think that was what their employer had had in mind for tonight.
Her dress uniform. She couldn’t - wouldn’t - wear Stone Shields colors ever again, but Kara liked blue.
Kara took the mirror from Dhaunmyr. She stared into it, and imagined herself in crisp dark gray pants, with a dark blue mid-thigh length jacket on her upper body, and a neat white shirt (hidden) beneath. One side of it stretched across the other, with the seam running down Kara’s right, secured with bright silver buttons. Tight sleeves - not too tight as to restrict movement, but crisp - ended at small hands in gray gloves. The neck was high, with a little starched collar embroidered with silver shields - Kara hadn’t been able to think of anything else. She wore crisp black boots on her feet, perfectly shined. A wide dark gray sash wrapped around her waist, pulled crisp with no wrinkles. In fact, the entire thing gave the impression of having been just washed, cleaned and pressed.

Taking the mirror from Dhaunmyr, Kara sees much of the same: the moon's reflection, the flash of herself dressed in uniform, arms crossed and sternly nodding, appearing in the glare for a moment and then vanishing, and then her body becomes covered in the green and rose speckled glow. A freshly starched uniform, as described, materializes. It even smelled like it was fresh from the cleaners. The mirror dims again.

Dhaunmyr appeared very amused, rolling his eyes. “Of course! Of course! Nothing less would suit you so perfectly, Kara. Although, I must admit, I have only been aware of many of these styles for about one season, and I have busied myself with a very different aspect of fashion!”
“You do look wonderful. You always do.” He smiled bittersweetly to himself. Nobody ever looked so beautiful, all the time. At least no humans. It was a sentimentality, right? It felt weak. He wouldn’t throw himself into anything, not even to protect himself, Dhaunmyr had much rather hand over his goods, or whatever it was, than face a fight. Except for Kara. His friend. His best friend.
Eyes wandering, they spotted two rather foreign boots to his memory, and he perked up immediately. “Now I am dying to see what splendours await us, my darling Solstice! Your delightful words have me rather desperate to know!”
If there was one thing Dhaunmyr loved, it was pretty things. And Solstice had rather promised something most delicious for the eyes.

"Very stylish. Well done, Kara." Solstice grinned, looking over the details of the outfit Kara crafted with help from the mirror. Even though she seemed frightened of fashion and formality, the firbolg thought Kara managed rather well. If she hadn't already had something in mind, Solstice might have gone with something very similar. It was perhaps a notion for later, should the occasion arise. This was Waterdeep, surely there would be other opportunities via holidays and festivals and whatnot. Now it was her turn. Solstice took hold of the mirror with a small smirk. She had her own disguising magic, so the notion was far from unknown to her. That said, she didn't want to tap into the illusory magic her heritage provided right now, just in case it was needed for later. With a glance at Dhaunmyr, she chuckled. "No pressure, eh? Though I suppose that's my own damn fault for speaking of Feywild fashion. But alright, let's see how this mirror keeps up...."
Staring into the mirror, she brought to mind the image of a living dress crafted out of green leaves tipped in silver and gold. It was a waterfall of color, the skirt wide and full, and ending in a train that stretched out behind her. Solstice wasn't done, though. Instead of actual sleeves, she continued the living clothing theme and created vines around her arms, sprouting the same leaves as the dress and even some vines for her hair, to sweep it back and up. Her footwear was practical, but no one could see it under all that pomp and splendor. Finally, she envisioned a shawl of glittering cobweb, light and filmy and studded with dew. Queen Titania would never know that her look had been borrowed for an everning, so why not?

Solstice, taking the mirror, predictably sees the same things as the other two: moonlight and then the appearence of another, miniaturized Solstice. She flashes a grin and gives a thumbs up. As Solstice begins to picture her Fey-inspired outfit, the cascade of spring tinted leaves, the snaking vines, and the dew laden cobweb to tie it all together, the mirror begins to noticeably vibrate in her hands. The reflective portion also begins to glow. It shutters and flashes on and off, the handle sparks and becomes warm to the touch, and a thin plume of smoke billows out from the back, and, for a brief moment, even the clothing already conjured onto Dhaunmyr and Kara flickers as if struggling to remain whole. Then, the mirror becomes still. A flash of rose-speckled green swirls and dances around Solstice, now accompanied with the spectral form of fluttering hummingbirds and butterflies, and a glow even brighter than before. Solstice might even notice the glimmer of a star in the corner of the mirror. As it all fades away she's left wearing the entirety of her outfit and the mirror itself becomes dim and inert.
Interestingly, accompanying the rest of the outfit is a gold necklace with its links formed into the likeness of different flowers. A single small white diamond lies suspended at the end.

Kara watched in surprise and delight as Solstice’s outfit swirled around her. She stepped back, taking in the entire thing with wide eyes, and then, slowly, cleared her throat and spoke. “Lovely.” Kara said, very softly.
After a moment, looking somewhat embarrassed, Kara went back to the paper their instructions had been on, looking for something else to focus on. She picked up the golden tickets from the folds of it, examining them, and the wallet as well, squinting at the glowing white letters before opening it to look inside.

Examining the tickets, Kara sees that, other than being pressed out of golden foil, the words “Entry for One” are etched along its length as a thin, silver outline. On the other side a beholder lies indented in the center of the ticket, just barely visible under the moonlight.
Next examining the wallet, Kara finds that it feels and weighs like any other wallet; an empty one at that. The white letters unceasingly glow. Opening the worn leather, the inside of the wallet is, in fact, completely empty. A small moth flutters out and disappears into the night.

Kara glanced down at the tickets, once, then again, slowly, rubbing her fingers against the edge of each. Two tickets, one entry for one each. “Two tickets,” Kara said aloud, looking up at Solstice or Dhaunmyr. If either wanted to look for themselves, she’d hand the tickets over without complaint. Kara jerked back slightly when the moth fluttered out of the wallet. She lifted it up, squinting at it, trying to see if she could learn anything from staring at it. Magic artifacts had never been, exactly, her strong suit, but she had seen some peculiar things working as a guard in Sundabar. Arcana check: ZstFEifb1d20
After a moment, Kara shook her head. It was, she was pretty sure, a wallet with glowing letter on it. She stepped over to Dhaunmyr - he was an elf, he could do spells, he would probably be able to figure it out - and held the wallet out to him with a faint shrug.

Dhaunmyr took it, turned it over, and frowned. "So is one of us going to have to sneak in or something?"

He handed the wallet on again, this time to Solstice. "Can you make anything of this?" 1d20+1

Solstice, transfixed by the display of color and light accompanying her transformation, was oblivious to the wallet and tickets at first. She stared in awe and delight at the spectral hummingbirds and butterflies--this was far more than she had anticipated, and it tickled her to believe that the mirror somehow approved of her outlandish choice. It was a disappointment when the mirror becomes inert, but she was soon distracted by the gold necklace and small white diamond suspended at the end. She reached up and touched it with a smile, her gaze lingering for a moment before looking over to her companions. Kara's approval has her beaming, and she can only hope that the rest of the attendees will feel the same way.
Now for the tickets. Solstice peers at them with interest, red curls swaying as she tilts her head a bit. "Well, those are certainly fancy. And...only two? Odd, you'd think they would include us all. Why hire more than two if you're not to grant them access as well?" She frowned and shook her head, not understanding how that was supposed to work for them. At mention of sneaking in, Solstice shook her head with a soft chuckle. "It won't be me, I'm afraid. Stealth is really not my forte, so even without the loud outfit I would be caught in no time flat. I suppose the question is which of you is sneakier?"
Letting them figure that out, Solstice peers up at the small moth fluttering away before turning her gaze back to Dhaunmyr upon hearing his question? "Hm? Oh, I can try...." She'll look it over, first trying to assess the wallet by mundane means before tapping into her heritage if still left without answers afterward.

(No Detect Magic necessary!)
Flipping the wallet over a few times, tapping into the knowledge of your magical Fey ancestry, and applying a little sprinkle of intuition, Solstice suspects that the wallet is, at its core…just a wallet. A couple boring pieces of leather stitched together. However, she’s also able to discern that the wallet has been enchanted to access a pocket dimension of sorts. By activating the pocket dimension, a simple thought from the holder is usually enough for these kinds of things, then its contents can also be accessed. In this case, its not that big of a leap to assume the 1-0-0-0 on the cover of the wallet is related to whatever it holds.

"Ah, interesting...." Solstice raised an eyebrow, flipping the wallet over in her hands and shrugging a little. After a moment, she handed it back and shrugged. "The wallet's not the important part, not in and of itself. It's been enchanted to access a pocket dimension, activated by thought. The numbers have to mean something related to it, no doubt. More than that, and I think we'd need a wizard. The arcane isn't my strong point."

Kara glanced at Solstice’s beautiful dress of leaves, and Dhaunmyr’s bright and outlandish outfit, then down at herself. The grays and blues weren’t ideal for sneaking, but they were practical, at least. She doubted Dhaunmyr was much of a hand at sneaking over walls. She wouldn’t have said stealth was her forte, but, Kara hoped, she at least had a shot.
“I’ll…” Kara rubbed at the shaved bit of her head, then gestured at the tickets, looking from Solstice to Dhaunmyr. “You take them.” She wasn’t sure they’d buy that someone like her had one of those tickets anyway. Solstice and Dhaunmyr were the better choices.
Solstice explained that the wallet would allow them to access a pocket dimension, activated by thought. Kara frowned, staring at the numbers. “Gold?” She asked, tentatively. A thousand dragons was – well – a lot of money. As much as the average worker in Waterdeep would make in three years. To this crowd, though, Kara guessed a thousand dragons was a drop in the bucket, the sort of money they wouldn’t even notice. Perhaps Merret Halfman meant it as an advance; he would take what they spent from their fee, if they had one, but wanted to be sure they had cash for anything they needed tonight.
“… should we...?” Kara extended her hand to Solstice for the wallet if no one else immediately volunteered. She frowned at it, and tried to will it to open and reveal its contents to her, or at least to let her reach her hand inside.
