He was fairly surprised when something sneaked up behind him and tried to shank him with a dagger, the pain was punishment enough but more than worry him it angered him, for when he turned around he saw a poor man's lizardfolk trying to nail him. He couldn't decide which was worse, if the giant bats, or the kobold. He took his pick and decided the bat was worse, thus, he unsheated his sword and used it to cast a cantrip against the bloody beast. The blade swung with arcane forces rippling through the blade as it made it's way towards the winged rat.
He uses Arcane Deflection to raise his AC and avoid the attack, at the cost of not being able to cast spells other than cantrips until his next turn.

Both the bat and kobold swiped at Malakbel as he retreated back up the stairs.
The kobold scooped up and rock and flew up into the air above Malakbel, clearing just high enough to drop the rock on him (or at least towards him).
The giant bat lunged forward, attacking again from lower down, close to the ground.

This was definitely not how he thought things were going to go. While, on one hand he considered it as a possibility, on the other he realised that it was a far shot. Investing in the armor he was currently wearing proved to be one of the most sound investments thus far, as evidenced by the constant small yet otherwise annoying damage it was repelling, the most of it being when the kobold decided to shoot a rock at him upstairs, it was lovely. And as it happened he swung his blade again hoping to finally get rid of the bat; he had to commend his aim though, shooting at him on such a small corridor and not hitting the bat must have taken some skill. Naturally however he miserably miss for what was it, the third time in a row? He had lost count, and was simply starting to wonder if it wouldn't be better to just diss the sword and use the spells. But it felt like a bit of a waste to do so against enemies that did not seem a big threat.

The giant bat let out a loud chittering noise that almost - almost! - made it seem like it was laughing at him as it dodged the strike. The kobold produced another rock from - somewhere - and swooped up to drop it on Malakbel. The giant bat attacked again, evidently undaunted by its utter lack of success thus far.

This time however, he saw the bat making it's move as opposed to getting shanked from behind, and when the creature made it's move the Yuan-ti countered it with his arcane deflection; a small, barely perceptible barrier would form at the point of impact deviating the attack at the last possible moment. However, the concentration required to pull off such a move would leave him unable to cast anything more complicated than a simple cantrip. It was a fair deal, if it allowed him to survive a bit longer. He would try again with the sword, again with a cantrip, it was daunting that a simple giant bat could be such a bothersome foe in close combat against an armed fighter.

The giant bat let out a loud, sort of shrieking hiss, dodging Malakbel's blade with a seemingly effortless swoop of its wings.
While Malakbel was focusing on the bat, the kobold chucked another rock at him - maybe it was hoping he would flee up the stairs and leave the dungeon entirely?
In almost the same moment, the giant bat swooped again, aiming sharp teeth at Malakbel.

This had to be by far the most embarassing duel he had thus far in his life, and he was thankful no one was around to see him struggle to kill a flying rat and his lizard companion, and that, if for some reason they did manage to beat him, he hoped his body would end up so mangled that when he was resurrected, if he was resurrected, he could say that in fact he had fallen fighting a thousand enemies or something like that. And thus, he tried to attack the bat again, trying to think happy thoughts and not how increasingly frustrated he was about a winged rodent nibbling him to death.

This time – finally! – Malakbel’s sword connected. The bat let out a high-pitched, keening shriek, its wings flailing. Energy wrapped around the bat and, panicking and already bloody and smoking, it would dive bomb Malakbel again, unaware that doing so meant taking yet more damage. The kobold seemed to have found an unlimited supply of rocks, and would keep chucking them at Malakbel, diligently.

As the remainder of the spell unleashed itself on the unsupsecting bat, the Yuan-ti would go forward and try to grapple the Kobold to the ground. He was beyond annoyed by him, though the way he felt things varied from most other sentients with perhaps the exception of the Lizardfolk. It was enough to get his depressed self to feel something and that was enough, the fact that it was the only creature around and it had been throwing rocks around at him like it was a good idea made it seem to him like a mindless beast more than anything. But it was using weapons, and that indicated a certain level of sophisication. And he would try to use that to his favor, and to that of the kobold as well... If he proved to be smart enough.
He left his sword on the stairs and with his free hand he sought to grapple him. Accessible to grab, yet anything would have to go through him to grab it. Unless of course it sneaked behind him, but if that was the case then he had more pressing things to worry about than the sword.

He would heave him up in the air and violently tell him.
"Drop your weapons if you want to live"
In draconic, thinking that if the creature were to be able to speak, like the lizardfolk, or the dragonfolk, it would be the language more likely to speak. He figured being a giant clad in heavy armor able and willing to tear him to pieces would do the part, but he was willing to put a bit more effort into it, should it prove necessary.2d8·1d20+2

The moment the giant bat began to move, the energy around it rippled and crackled, and a huge burst of force shot through it. It let out a long, keening shriek, and dropped heavily to the ground, convulsing once, twice against the stones, and lying still. Just when Malakbel thought it was done, it gave a last horrific shudder, wings spasming, and then slumped down, finally - finally! - dead. The kobold shrieked, doing its best to wriggle away as Malakbel tried to grab hold of him.

Unfortunately, the kobold somehow managed to thrash itself in to Malakbel’s hand rather than away from it. Malakbel heaved the creature up into the air, and the kobold shrieked aloud, flailing about.
“Intruder!” The kobold shrieked back in draconic. “This is my territory – it’s mine! Get out or I will kill you!”
It did not, unfortunately, seem willing to drop its weapons. Instead, the kobold grabbed its dagger, leaned over, and did its level best to plunge the weapon into Malakbel.
Kobold Dagger Attack: 1d20+5
The dagger slipped helplessly off of Malakbel's armor, scraping uselessly at it.
The death throes of the second great bat summoned the first. The great bat was singed thanks to Malakbel's earlier attack, one wing fluttering slightly off-balance, but he dropped from the wall above the door and flew out, keening a hideous shriek at the sight of the second great bat lying dead on the floor. Small, beady eyes focused on Malakbel and the kobold, and the great bat lunged at him, small, sharp teeth ready to rip and tear, undaunted by the powerful armor of its foe or the way it had just slain his mate.

The second bat attacking him from the side with the flapping of wings becoming yet again a nuisance to his ears, the Yuan-ti moved back with annoyance, back again into the ladder this time dragging the kobold with him and then slammed him against the wall with that armored hand of his, gripping him like he wanted to.

"Is your entire species this mentally stunted? Drop your weapons or I will gouge your eyes out before splitting your skull open, slowly."
Noticeably more angered, which for him was to say he was slightly inconvenied, he put more weight to his words but was hoping his body language would do the talking, as would the pain he was inflicting on the kobold. Few sentients he knew would willingly throw their lives away when another option was presented to them, and those that fought to the death more often, history told, was because they were left with no options. No place to retreat and no surrender offered. Perhaps the kobold would get the hint and drop his weapon.1d20+5

The kobold squealed in pain; either because he was hit so hard that he couldn’t hold on or because Malakbel was right and he did want to live (with his eyes), his little lizard-hand opened, and the dagger clattered to the floor.
The great bat launched another (vicious) attempt at an attack, very determined still, worming his way into the increasingly narrow space to try and get at Malakbel.

With that done Malakbel released the poor bugger and left it on the floor with a rather sound and fair warning
"If you try to run, I'll kill you. Stay where you are and I might yet heal you after I'm through"
He picked up the sword which he had dropped, and then proceeded to use it against the bad. He was really tired of those god damned bats, on that god damned cave.

This time, Malakbel’s sword hit squarely. The giant bat shrieked and faltered, and the burst of booming energy finished it off. It dropped to the ground on the stairs, its large furry body tumbling slowly down them to land next to its mate, in a sad and somewhat bizarre tableau of death.
The kobold crouched on the floor where Malakbel had left it, wings tucked tightly against its back. It was an ugly creature, all red scales and dark yellowed claws, with odd patches of blue on its head and shoulders, matching its large wings. It had a long blue tail, which lashed behind it, once, before coiling against its back.
It hissed faintly at Malakbel, but – very faintly, evidently not wanting to tempt fate too severely by angering the enormous armored man who had only just decided to spare his life, and stayed crouched, waiting, bright red eyes fixed on the yuan-ti.

Malakbel let out a growl and squatted in front of the Kobold reaching over with one of his big hands, placing it upon the creature's head as he smiled a tense, sharp, smile with barely contained anger.
"Alright now. Here's what we will do. You're going to tell me how many of your kind are in this place. You're going to tell me about the traps. In return, will not kill you. And I will not kill them. In fact, I'll even bring treasure once in a while because unlike the stupid bats I can both pull my weight and bring value to the places I inhabit. Other than that, I'm about to brutally murder anything and everything inside this place, except those beings that ally themselves to me. Does that make sense to you? I don't expect it would, for I am someone capable of literally shaping reality to suit my needs and you were dropping rocks on me. Nonetheless. I am willing to overlook it."
By that point it would become increasingly obvious, in the intensity of his stare, just how close he was of murdering the creature in front of him in the very same fashion he had described to him moments earlier. He reached out to his pouch and retreated one of the potions he had brought with him, a small one.
"If you agree to this, as a show of my power not only will I do the things I mentioned but I will also show you I have the power to create healing potions, which will close your wounds and stop the pain from me almost bursting you to pieces inside out for not listening when I told you to. Give it some thoughts. It's a simple equation. You help me, you and your kind live and thrive."
