The extra source of light was met with an approving nod, and Solstice set about to coiling her rope about herself as well, folding the grappling hook so it wouldn't dig into her armor. Her hands roamed to check that the rest was in its proper place; waterskin and healer's kit strapped to the side and back of her belt, and another tinderbox snagged just to be absolutely certain. She glanced over with raised eyebrows and a curious glint in her eyes as Kara inspected the hole and dropped a torch into the gaping darkness below.
"Not so deep, and not at a slope...all good to know for an initial landing, even if that changes." As to the cause, Solstice nodded cautiously at mention of cave-ins, taking it seriously despite the calm tone in which that information was delivered. "We'll have to be careful not to do anything that will trigger another cave-in, then. I'm no expert on delving below, but a chain reaction seems likely. And if something living caused it, I doubt it took much care to keep it safe for us."
As Mrs. Mossrun returned, Solstice brightened as though such grim thoughts hadn't been voiced. The kindly old woman didn't need to hear their speculation, especially since she was already distraught over her missing cat. Flashing a smile, she took hold of the larger handkerchief, tucking it away with care. She hadn't planned on being caught below long enough for rations to be needed, but a kindness such as that was not to be shunned. Besides, the best of plans could easily be waylaid by the unexpected...and right now, they knew very little about what to expect below. "Ah, wonderful! Thank you very much, Mrs. Mossrun. You, too, please keep away from the hole until we return!"
That done, she turned to Kara, hands on her hips. "I'll go in first. I ought to see how well I can fit below, anyway." It was better for the taller of the two to be the first one to jump down; Solstice potentially catching Kara would go a lot easier than the other way around. She had faith in Kara's own strength, but the size discrepancy could still make that a problem. Steeling herself for whatever was below, Solstice stood at the crumbled edge and kept in mind the short amount of time before the torch hit the ground moments ago. Raising her lantern-hand, she sat down at the edge before heaving herself over and bracing herself for the landing. It was time to start earning their pay.
