While Lucy had been exposed to much magic during the destruction of her home, she had never seen a teleportation circle, and was slightly awed by its creation. Uziken chuckled in her mind. ‘A fine piece of workmanship, yes, but nothing that impresses.’
Lucy ignored him, something she was finding easier to do. At this point Laurelai confidently entered the portal. One moment she was there, the next she was gone. ‘Okay then,’ Lucy thought to herself, as her nerves started to rise, ‘she seemed to trust it.’
Lucy stepped forward, remembering to hold her breath. As entered the circle, she was suddenly aware of swirling colours all around her. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. And then suddenly she was blinded by a white light and felt like she was being physically thrown.
The next thing she knew she was down on all fours, on ground that was frozen, gasping for breath. Uziken thought this was hilarious. ‘Teleportation not your thing, child?’ he laughed in her mind. ‘You’ll be feeling this for a while.’ Again Lucy ignored him. Not because she chose to, but because she was preoccupied with getting her breath back.
She slowly rose to her feet, a monumental effort, and looked around. A mountain, some trees… and Laurelai. Laurelai was doing something with candles and muttering about hand signals. As she slowly got herself together, Lucy became aware of a sad melody on the breeze, and managed to listen to the Elf.
Lucy put on a stoic expression. ‘No, I’ve never worked with hand signals, but I’m a fast learner. I…’ Her voice faltered. ‘Just gimme a minute. I’ve never teleported before and… And I don’t like it.’

Zedd's eyes lit up in amazement as he watched the sword turn into this magnificent portal. Walking closer to the portal to get a better look Zedd pulled out his journal he began writing. With so many questions flooding to his head he had to restrain himself from blurting them all out at once. Zedd took a quick breathe and looked to the orange-eyed man. "Thanks again for the heads up." he started. "Maybe if we make it back you could show me how to do that?" Putting away his journal Zedd stepped up to the portal, took a deep breath and walked through.
As soon as his foot touched the portal he was instantly surrounded by swirls of colors while bright streaks of light darted through the air. Watching in astonishment Zedd suddenly felt a bitter chill run down his spine. A burst of white blinded him, overloading his senses. Rubbing his eyes instinctually, Zedd noticed the feeling of cold air rush into his lungs as he took his first breathe after jumping through. Still in a daze he shook it off, pulled out his journal and began describing his first experience teleporting.
After finishing his entry Zedd turns to Laurelia. "Same for me. I haven't had the need to use hand gestures…" Zedd started rubbing a piece of copper wire wrapped around his wrist. (Zedd casts Message and says to Laurelia "I have magic.") "But I do have a knack for codes and cyphers, so if need be I can learn some hand gestures pretty quick." Zedd replied. Confident but nervous he was ready fro what was about to come…or so he thinks.

Laurelai nodded her head, as she worked to roll out the little balls of wax, handing two to each of the others in turn, “Put these in, make sure the fit is snug, then take them out so we can talk.” She said, demonstrating the process – it was unlikely to be a perfect fit, but as far as makeshift defences against magically entrancing songs went, it was about as good as she could get.
“We’ll try and keep it simple.” She continued, “We’ll need to be a little dispersed so that we’re not a sitting duck if this harpy does have the ability to vomit lightning at us. So, one of you about ten feet to my left, the other about ten feet to my right, and then I’ll go forward a little ways and see if we can’t head in that direction.”
She turned away from them, and held up her left hand, palm up, so that they could both see.
“This is stop.”
She pointed, left, right.
“Those are to let you know if we’re making a sharp turn or if I want both of you to go in that direction because I’ve got eyes on something weird. If I’m pointing forwards.”
She demonstrated.
“That means I’ve spotted something I want your attention on. And if I close my hand suddenly into a fist.”
Again, pointing finger turned into a fist to show what she meant.
“That means we’re about to scrap. Now. The real danger of taking this approach is that we might be picked off by something else coming at us from behind. So, if either of you spot anything, there’s a couple of options for attention.”
She nodded to Zed, “Your magic is a great one if you’ve got time to use it. Lucy? If you need me to stop and it isn’t desperate, chuck a stone in front of me.”
Her face turned a little grim, then.
“If you’re attacked before you can raise an alarm, the best thing to do is to fire some of your magic in front of me so I’ll turn around. Try and be careful. Being set on fire will get my attention, but it’ll also piss me off. But hopefully, that won’t be necessary – if we move quick, cover ground, and get out of here sharply, we should be able to take this thing down before attracting too much unwanted attention.”
She gave a quick nod towards the camp.
“We may as well search that area before we put the plugs in and head towards the singing. It may have useful supplies, or an indication of other threats in the area.” She flashes a quick grin to the pair, “I don’t suppose either of you are good with animal tracks?”

Even after getting to her feet and getting most of her bearings, teleportation had been hard on Lucy. The halfling, even after taking a moment on all fours, would feel tired, like her perceptions were moving in and out of focus. While she would eventually right herself to be able to move and act, it would be hard on focusing on the more mundane tasks at hand, thanks to a pressure behind her eyes that had begun to set in, equivalent to a bad migraine. If the trio decided to investigate the campsite, they would be able to quick enough. With a single tent and fire-pit, no more than eighty feet away, they would be able to look over the camp easily. The crunch of a light snow and frost across frozen ground under foot would reverberate through their bodies, ear-plugs or not, and they would quickly be able to figure out a danger presented in the area.
Opening the tent would reveal a simple set-up. A bedroll lined with blankets, a warhammer under a light frost, frozen in place. The bedroll, however, held a human-sized figure within, wrapped under the blankets within the bedroll, with some snow built up on top of the humanoid form. With his head pointed toward the fire, he would be frozen, eyes closed. All three of them would be able to deduct that he had fallen asleep and never woke back up, freezing to death overnight. As they took the couple of minutes to investigate the camp? Nothing would set upon them. They would still hear the morose, haunting Elvish song carry on from further up the trail on the winds. The wind itself would gust lightly, carrying a misting of snow across it's gales that sprinkled the trio. When they were ready to continue up the mountain, the path would narrow for about fifteen feet. The two taller members of this party would need to be a little more careful than the halfling or risk sliding off the edge of the mountain itself. Though a second path wound below them some thirty feet down, it wouldn't be a pleasant trip to get there if they slid off or fell.

Zedd, seeing the campsite started rubbing the copper bracelet (Zedd casts message to Laurelai). "I think we should check this place out." He stated while starting his way to the tent. Keeping an eye on the mountain face and Zedd opens the flap to the tent and sees the frozen man. Looking back at Laurelai, "What do you think happened to em?" Zedd said aloud forgetting about the ear plugs for a moment. Seeing the man turned Zedd's optimistic attitude into anxiety. Zedd has seen a dead body before, but to think that that could be him if he wasn't careful left an unsettling feeling in his stomach.
While glancing over the scene Zedd notices a journal and instantly picked it up and began reading it. "Maybe this will give us some answers." Nothing else in the tent seemed to interest Zedd but the journal. Reading some of the passages he slips the journal into his backpack and swaps it out for his own. Describing the scene to the best of his ability Zedd writes about the frozen man and the way he felt when he saw him. Putting his journal away Zedd looks at Laurelai and messages "What's the plan of attack?".

Laurelai picked up the necklace, and tossed it towards Zedd. She hadn't put the earplugs in yet; that would come later, so she was more than able to hear him. "This looks like it could be magical." She said, "Can you check? Might be useful if it is."
Her eyes scanned the rest of the camp, and she sighed. "Poor bastard froze to death. It gets bad in the winter. If that journal tells us who he is, we might be able to find his next of kin, or send a letter at least."
She shrugged, unslinging her longbow and notching an arrow, she put the earplugs in. "Stay behind me, keep your wits about you, and try not to die." She said, taking the lead and picking her way up the path with nimble aplomb.
(Laurelai can't fail a DC 5 acrobatics check - so she'll just elf her way up the path)

Zedd catches the necklace and looks it over. "Sure give me a sec." He said. Zedd cups the necklace in his hands and casts Detect Magic. A faint blue light leaks through the cracks of his hands while he mutters a few words. Zedd tells Laurelai what he has discovered about the necklace. He notices the small satchel on the frozen body and puts it in his backpack.
Zedd cups his hands together, puts them to his face and breathes hot air on his hands in attempt to warm his nose. "Copy that." Zedd says as he watches the elf gracefully dash the narrow path. He adjusts his back pack and begins following her, but a lot more cautiously.
